something is better than nothing
not always. a very bad something can just ruin things.

But really, I'd rather someone started a NEW quest in this style then continue this one.

It's not like this quest was perfect.

in hindsight, if we want to be fair, this was a really good story, but not a good quest.

I loved it at the time, I still love it, but I dare anyone here to tell me that the best decisions to take weren't usually very obvious. There wasn't that much playing, because the choices were in large part obvious ones.

Harder quests like Poptart's ones (Dragonball After the End, Terminus Quest, Victoria Falls), the URSS plan quest "Attempting to fullfill the plan", Esquestria... (Marked of Death too, but I only skim that at times, I don't play it) maybe I've been spoiled a bit by those quests, but a thing they have in common is that those quests don't pull their punches. There IS difficulty there. If you take the wrong choice, you're punished for it.

Here that never really happened. We won everytime, too easily.

so again I'd say I loved the characters and story, but the "gameplay" was in beyond-easy mode.

Before I move on to the Big Brain plotting of a successor game, I have an important question for the thread: a sequel set a hundred or two years later, or a clean sheet start coming out of the Age of Chaos?

Hm, could have it set with our son as the ruler? Maybe grandson or great grandson?

If so then could have it be a short era of peace.....

Or you could have it be set in the era of chaos or maybe a different race with the potential to encounter the griffons later on.

Have it take place around when we left off

I would like to see a continuation of what we already have. Barring that if you do go for a time skip I would like to see options to fill it. Like technologies we developed during the period or infrastructure projects.

The direct continuation would see the end of the golden age caused by the rapid mixing of ideas from forcefully disconnected sources. If playing as the Empire proper rather than one of its constituent parts, the player character would probably be... The great-grandson of the legendary Goldenfeather, yes.

Though a quick series of historical events wouldn't go amiss in the early stage... Ah, something like the Nordamark game over on SB, or its inspiration here on SV whose name I forget again.

Honestly my preference would be a different race set in the same period.

This way we could still encounter the empire and allies, even see their own development but the author would not be stuck trying to continue the story when they lack the information and such.

It would probably be much easier on the author to do it that way and when we encounter the griffons.... Imagine the hype there.

So both a clean start and a continuation? It would work for me as, not to sound selfish, the writer does need to enjoy what they are doing when running a game.

Alright then. Empire mechanics. Most actions will not cost "funds", being in line with your ordinary operations. Others will take from your treasury, sometimes necessitating actions to raise money quickly. Similarly, actions themselves are a representation of how much your empire can get done. Some situations will make you want to devolve power to local officials in order to get more actions, even if you can not control them.

Could do a version where we play as another race besides Pony or Griffon.

The tribal lands of Zebrica filled with ancient dangers. Curses, spirits, relics galore.

The Diamond Dogs facing a mind destroying plague and fear and hatred from their neighbors because of it.

The isolationist Neighpon facing racism and a dwindling populace with limited resources.

The avians on a flying continent, the hippocampi under the waves, the cats in the desert, the yetis in the storm besieged tundra, etc.

Personally, I´d like a quest about either the Thestrals or Aztec!Ponies for something *wildly different*

Considering we see who ruled as the Aztec king in MLP we wouldn't really be focusing on ponies there I think. Ahuizotl was a dog with monkey paws and an aipom tail.

I'd prefer not doing ponies or griffins in this version just for different species perspectives.
Thestrals are different enough though... wonder if we can do blood and shadow magic with that. Go Gothic.

Thestrals would be interesting but I would prefer for it to be a bit further afield to prevent us from leaning too hard on the griffons early on. Let's encounter them later and have it be an epic deal.

We could also do Abyssians (cat people) or deer (which in the comics are basically wood elves and have nature magic)

...another idea would be CHANGELINGS - let us deal with the mess Gryphus made from the other side^^

That beign said, I´d still prefer going Thestral^^

And as those are in modern day, plus as this Quest has showed there are multiple civilizations of same species it could be anything.

Reindeer up in the tundra with windigoes, icicles on their antlers and winter magic for example as cousins to the more tropical deer.

Seriously this planet is more like the size of Jupiter I feel.

Hm, that would work.

As for Equis being massive it would make a weird amount of sense if the world was a merger of various alternative ones due to the age of chaos

We could try the zebras, we were just barely begining to see signs of them, and I think they were the second place for the original species vote.

Or it could be a different medium quest. Instead of empire building, how about a merchant quest? The world has recently opened up, and an adventurous entrepreneur could make bank in the new far lands of [not your starting point]. Be an Equestrian seeing the Griffon Empire, be a Nipponese traveler, be a Yak construction engineer. Or just be someone traveling and exploring what's out there.

The setting is different enough that just exploring that could be a great quest in itself.
