Omake: War Sworn Battle of Wingbardy (Semi-Canon)
Hey @Adventwolf I used your character Gondric in my omake, hope you didn't mind. Omake 1.1K
(V(;,,;(V)
War Sworn Battle of Wingbardy
It was an exhausting campaign, it took a long march to arrive, weeks of trudging through farmlands, breaking the meager resistance of the mountain militia, and then three forsaken months of sacking the capital.

You are Grian Ironfast of the noble house of Ironfast, former Knight of the War Sworn, now a general of Aquileia's armies. Before you sit, Wingbardy's Capital it walls still stand tall and proud. And it would not just gods damned fall already!

And to make matters even worse, you see over the horizon a wall of griffons with interlocking shields comes to reinforce the Wingbardians. Damn it! This wasn't supposed to happen! You were supposed to have taken Wingbardy by now. You're too late, Wingbardy's Griffonians allies have arrived.

You need to act fast, if you want this invasion to succeed. The Wingbardy Capital has almost fallen, you know it. It just needs one final charge before the full might Aquileian army can deal with Griffonia.

"Operators! Prepare another volley with the Siege Engines" You ordered.

You command a corps of 5,000 griffons strong. Each one highly trained in combat, armed with the best equipment Aquileia can offer. And that is not even counting the 2,500 mercenaries that supplement your corps. Dare you say it, you possess the greatest corps of the Aquileian Army. With such numbers and might Wingbardy should have fallen from your corps alone by now. But there it stands, still as defiant as ever.

"There our targets lay before us! They who stand in the war of our conquest, the glory of Aquileia, and a United Empire." You raise your sword in the air. "Let's charge the Griffonian lines and scatter them like all the foes we faced before them!" Your corps raise their blade letting out a war cry.

Your Lt. General stares at you in confusion. "Uh Sir, isn't it too risky? Shouldn't we be coordinating with the other generals to get reinforcements or at the very least await the orders of the Field Marshal?"

You glared at him, "They can have our scraps when they get there. Let this be a lesson, there is an old War Sworn proverb, 'The one who charges in first, gains the Greatest of glory.'" You answered. Though you should be so harsh on him, unlike you he was never a War Sworn Knight.

"But this goes against army regulations!" She said frantically, flipping through thick regulation manual. Ah, so she was one of those types, bookworms who earned their position through strict adherence to Rules and Regulations.

"And it's against regulations to disobey my orders. If you are so adamant, then stay here and watch over the siege weapons and the rear-guard." You retorted.

You overlook the battlefield and sliced your sword downward the tip pointing at the wall of shields and gave the order. "Charge!"

All 2,500 mercenaries acted as vanguard shielding the might of 2,500 of your highly trained corps from volleys of arrows.

The sun blotted by our wings. All sound deafened by our war cry. And then a great bolt shoots from the Griffonia lines and carves a swath of destruction through your army. You cursed, what in Tartarus was that! You ordered your troops to regroup. You see another 4 shoot pass by your army missing them by miles it seems they're weapons are not as accurate, that is good.

You near the enemy line and see them shoot arrows at your men but the mercenary fodder protects your main troops from harm. The onslaught of arrows are either blocked by fodder, shields or armor.

You order your own archers to counter, but then you realize you forgot to take into consideration in this battle, the wind.

Your corps shot forward their arrows to strike the enemy when a powerful gust of wind blew back against your arrows. Arrows that were meant for the enemy now rained upon your own troops. The mercenaries began to fight amongst themselves causing disarray in your lines. Before you can even begin to reform your troops the Griffonians let loose another hail of arrows killing hundreds of army.

Just as you move to swallow the reinforcement with your troops, the doors of capital burst open spewing forth the opposing army countering your charge.

A Sally! Your eyes widened. You do not need this right now! You see them heading towards your rear-guard to attack your flank.

You grind your beak and made a snap decision. You called to your former fellow knight "Major General Grian Thane take charge here! I need to reinforce the rear!" He saluted and took off as fast as you could.

(V(;,,;(V)

You are Lt. General Mhairi, you are tasked with overseeing the siege weapons. You watch as a stone is launched then hearing the cacophony of splintering wood and shattering glass from what was mostly likely a roof collapsing somewhere in the capital.

You grimace and tried not to dwell too much on the thoughts of how many lives were just ended by that blow. You take no pleasure in taking live or even war in general, but you do what you must for the future of Aquileia and all of Griffon kind.

You begin to order another volley, but then four great arrows sail through the air impacting the siege weapons around you.

"What just happened!" You cried out. You looked around to see around half the siege destroyed and falling apart with their operator's dead or injured.

"Recalibrate the siege engines at whatever fired upon us! Troops march out and find the enemy!" You ordered.

Volleys of stone and bolts were exchanged. The siege weapons struck an enemy battalion smashing them out of the sky. But you'd be lying if you said the exchange was going well in your favor. Four more bolts crush almost all your remaining siege weapons. At the beginning you had 2,500, troops as a rear-guard and now around 500 of them are either injured, or dead. Leaving you with roughly 2,000 griffons around you.

This couldn't get any worse! And as if the universe heard you, arrows rained down on the rear-guard. Some how the Wingbardy army circled around you and are now attack your flank!

"For Wingbardy!" The enemy roared spears pointing at your troops.

"For Aquileia!" Your now regiment roared back, swords at the ready.

The two sides charged sword against spear. You stood at the back organizing the counter attack. Both sides numbered evenly, but the Wingbardians aren't dealing with no two bit mercenaries but the highly trained army of Aquileia. Blood spilled on both sides neither gaining the upper claw.

A mighty screech signaled the return of General of Grian Ironfast. Moral rose greatly among the troops with General Ironfast at the helm, pushing back the Wingbardians. But like the capital they refused to fall. The enemy divided into groups and charged at your regiment at various points splitting our own forces to meet them.

One notable Griffon, you identify as the leader with shield and spear in claw like the rest of the Wingbardians, charged directly at you and the general. The troops tried to intercept but they were felled one by one to the enemies' spears.

You tense, but the general just snorted at the sight of the leader standing opposite to them. "Is this all that can be mustered to face me? A bunch of low-born with some spears?"

You wish you had the general's confidence; the spear held an advantage over swords and axes after all. You trust General Ironfast has this handled, if not then you fear it will be you next on the end of the enemy's spear.

Hey @Adventwolf would you mind if I used Allister Bloodwing in my next Omake: Reunion of the Knight Orders?
I have no issue with you using Gondric the thing is the numbers are too high. The army at Wingbardy is only 17,000 strong when we arrive. That is also close to the number of total forces that our spies who rolled very well said they had. As for Allister he is not a hero or a knight. He is a young squire who only was knighted because he choose to do the right thing and stay with the soldiers he had found. It was the fact he did his duty to his Kingdom instead of running off for glory that got him a knighthood. He is a new member not a inner circle member not even a knight just a squire a bit in over his head.

@Thedudeman400 one flaw I see with your omake. How does one Corp have more men then either army had at full strength? other then that fantastic omake.

Thanks for the reply do have any suggestions to fix that issue? Because I just did a quick google search and I got this:
Army 2 or more Corps 100,000 to 150,000 Field Marshal or General
Corps 2 or more Divisions 25,000 to 50,000 General or Lt. Gen.
Division 3 or more Brigades or Regiments 10,000 to 15,000 Lt. Gen or Maj. Gen.
Brigade 3 or more Battalions 1500 to 3500 Maj. Gen, Brigadier or Col.
Regiment[2] 2 or more Battalions 1000 to 2000 Col.
Battalion 4 or more Companies 400 to 1000 Lt. Col.
Company 2 or more Platoons 100 to 250 Captain or Maj
Platoon (Troop) 2 or more Squads 16 to 50 1st Lt.
Squad 2 or more Sections 8 to 24 Sgt.
Section 4 to 12 Sgt.

Technically Allistair, Marian, and Daylen would normally be squires but was promoted to knights by necessity with intense training to make up the difference, if they survive the battle of Wingbardy that is.

We had roughly 18,000 which was basically even with the aquilian army so they had roughly the same.

This is not a modern army. They can not support a force that large. They would starve way before they fought a battle. The whole army was about 17,000 in total. The rear echelon was about 2,000 regulars. The mercenaries and scum make up about 5,000 I think of the whole army.

We had roughly 18,000 which was basically even with the aquilian army so they had roughly the same.
We actually out numbered them by a thousand.

Okay I edited the numbers, so that General Ironfast would have an corps of 7,500 under his command and I would say the largest corps out of all the other generals.

Please tell me if these numbers are more reasonable or if there are any discrepancies.

The numbers are better but the sally only happened once the main army was engaging the Griffornians. The rear echelon also didn't have any mercenaries those were all used as meat shields for the main army. The rear echelons was made up of 2,000 regular soldiers.

Okay, I fixed the sequence of events hopefully it still makes sense and I didn't screw anything up with the quick fix. And had all 2500 mercenaries charge with 2000 regular troops.

Have Ironfast order an attack against the the reinforcements. The rear echelon was a reserve force they were not expecting a sally at all. They seem to have been caught by surprise. You can have Ironfast either stay with rear or lead the charge against Griffornia and then return when the sally begins.

As for your next one if you want a meeting between the orders of Knights we have the name of the Knights Lions Order Grandmaster Konrad Hardbeak. Like I said Allister Bloodwing was a squire that was in over his head and made the right choice to stay with the soldiers he found.

I am slight confused by the events,

So I should have it that Ironfast attacks the Griffonian reinforcement.
Then the Sally occurs attacking Ironfast's charge?
or is that the Sally attacks the rear-echelon?

Can you clarify.

Right here is the order of events.
The siege is on going. You can have Ironfast planning to do an attack so leave the conversation with his Lt in.
The Griffornians arrive and cancel any plan for an attck on the city. Have Ironfast send the mercs and scum to the front to act as meat shields.
Ironfast then takes the majority of his forces to attack the Griffornians. Have him leave the 2,000 as a reserve force behind with his Lt.
Once the main army is engaged then the Wingbardy sally happens and hits the reserve force left behind.
Once Ironfast sees this sally have him return with a small squad or just himself to his Lt and have the meeting with Gondric.

+10 to a roll. Right on time, if you'd posted this a little bit later it wouldn't have been able to count towards the combat roll.

Right here is the order of events.

Thank you and I have rearranged order of events and fixed the discrepancies.

@Questor I notice in the threadmarks Grey Wardens and War Sworn are semi-canon, I like to keep my Omakes as Canon compliant as possible do you have any corrections you need me to make?

It's mostly the other Knightly orders. The Knights Lion are the only Knightly order to really survive in any form up to the present day.

I really wouldn't recommend changing the omakes to exclude them, it would really take away from them. I may end up retconning things so that they do become canon, or at least partially canon.

Great Omakes!

Battle of Wingbardy, Part 3
Federico agrees with your tactical assessment, and accompanies his troops to the flanks, reinforcing the embattled units there. Horns ring out, flags and banners are raised, and the order is given: Counterattack.

(Push Forward, Center: 80)

(Push Forward, Flanks: 44+10(Federico's Reinforcement)+10(War Dogs Omake)+10(Something's Gotta Give Omake)=74)

An order your troops obey enthusiastically. With a great war cry, shield walls are pulled apart and your soldiers leap into the fray. Gabriella and Federico embody the phrase "like father like daughter" as they both lead their respective segments of the front in a furious charge forwards, the ruler of Urbirdo swinging his broadsword with abandon, your Queen repeatedly stabbing out with a polearm from the midst of her Valkyries. The Aquileians now find themselves on the defensive as their forward formations are quickly overrun and hacked apart by your troops.

The few remaining brigands and mercenaries among them try to flee and are cut down by their "comrades", only for those warriors in service to the king to be slaughtered themselves. Bodies fall from the sky by the hundreds as the ground becomes soaked with blood, most of it belonging to the enemy. Bit by bit, inch by bloody inch, the forces of Aquileia are shoved bodily back towards the walls of Wingbard. And as all this occurs, the archers of both armies continue to rain steel upon their foes.

(Archer Volleys Part Two: 22+10(Garrick in Armor Fanart)+10(Garrick in Armor Mk 2 Fanart)+15(Acquelian Crit.Fail)=57)

Unfortunately it seems that the opposing archers have recovered from their earlier mishap, and though your own archers maintain their fire and fell many of the enemy, an equal number of your own troops find themselves pierced by projectiles. The constant hail of fire causes the advance to slow marginally as your warriors are forced to keep their shields up to protect themselves.

(Wingbardian Assault: 19+10(Blood and Steel Omake)+10(Fishy Business Omake)+10(A Lion Must Rise Omake)=49)

The Wingbardians are also having trouble, their attack on Brochard's rear stalling as the casualties on both sides continue to mount. Though the Wingbardians fight furiously, they are both outnumbered and exhausted from months under siege. For every enemy they slay, one of their own falls. While they still press hard against the invaders, it does not look like they will be routing them anytime soon.

Still, despite these setbacks, you feel that the battle is going well. A few of the Aquileian units have already been routed or destroyed utterly, the enemy now find themselves outnumbered, and you haven't even deployed the Knights Lion yet! You think you might just win this.

And as if sensing your optimistic thoughts and seeking to dash them, Brochard reveals his own trump card. A loud horn is blown from the center of the Aquileian camp, and the soldiers of the opposing force go into a panic, frantically reorganizing themselves to leave a clear path between their camp and your frontline. Several canvas tarps are pulled from what you had assumed to be large tents or the frames of siege engines under construction. They aren't.

You stare, eyes wide and jaw agape. For what's concealed beneath the tarps are cages. Massive iron cages, each one the size of a house. And within them sit trolls. More than a dozen, each one bedecked in heavy armor, crude blades big enough to slice through a whale fastened to their forearms.

The doors to the cages are thrown open by Griffons wearing the armor of Brochard's personal guard, and fifteen living mountains lumber out before suddenly barreling towards your lines, trampling over any Aquileian unfortunate enough to stand between them and your advancing army.

(Troll Fighting: 70-5(Large)-10(Heavy Armor)+10(Ballistae)=65)

They smash into your lines with a massive crash. Griffons are crushed underfoot, swatted from the sky, or bisected by massive blades. Swords bend, polearms snap, arrows bounce off their thick armor. You don't know how Brochard managed to find and cage so many trolls. You don't know how he managed to forge them armor. You don't know how he managed to train them to attack your forces while ignoring his own. All you know is that he did, and now they're killing your troops. For every second they rampage, dozens of your soldiers are killed.

Your ballistae fire, each shot piercing through the crude armor covering the trolls' monstrous forms and bringing down one of the rampaging beasts, but that still leaves ten of them up and fighting. Federico Montefeathertro flies up behind one and shoves his broadsword into a gap between it's helmet and it's torso armor, severing it's spine. Gabriella, mighty warrior Queen that she is, kills two more, flying right up into their faces and shoving her spear through their eyes and into their brains. The desperate and valiant efforts of your troops manage to kill two more before your ballistae reload and manage to kill all of the rest.

Brochard's secret weapon has been defeated. But hundreds of your troops lie dead. And that's not the worst of it. As your forces are still recovering from the devastating attack, another horn is blown from the depths of the Aquileian camp, and a column of soldiers carrying the flag of Aquileia fly out to assault your ravaged lines. Garbed in gilded armor and armed with the finest weapons, these are Brochard's personal guard, the greatest warriors in Aquileia. And at their head, covered head to talon in heavy armor and wielding a massive war hammer, is the King himself.

(Attack of the King's Guard: 84-15(Elite Unit)=69)

They smash into the depleted ranks of your army, gouging out a chunk of your frontline and clearly intending to carve a path right down the center of your force. Blades flash and blood flies as the Aquileian elites engage your troops in mortal combat. But despite their superior skill, Brochard's assault stalls only a few dozen yards into your lines, sheer weight of numbers allowing your soldiers to halt his advance even as so many of them pay the ultimate price to do so.
You'd been holding the Knights Lion in reserve, waiting for Brochard to show himself, waiting for a chance to end this battle. Now you have it. With a shouted order to Grandmaster Hardbeak, the Knights finally charge into combat against a worthy adversary.

(Charge of the Knights Lion: 46+10(The King is Here Omake)+10(War Sworn Battle of Wingbardy Omake)=66)

A worthy adversary indeed. It seems your knights have met their match. For every member of Brochard's personal guard that meets his end at the claws of the lions, a Knight or a squire goes down as well. As for Brochard himself, he's right in the thick of it, caving in a ribcage or smashing a skull with every swing of his massive hammer.

Brochard's Warhammer

Still, the Knights have taken the pressure off of the rest of your forces, who have resumed their assault against the Aquileian army's main body. Brochard and his elites are now pinned down and nearly surrounded, though it remains to be seen whether they can overcome the Lions and stage a breakout.

What Now?

[ ] Duel of Kings: You've been largely separated from the fighting up till now. You haven't even bloodied your sword yet! What's the point of all this armor if you're not going to put yourself into harms way? Do you really want to be known as the King that stood by and let others fight for him? Are you going to just stand here as Brochard slaughters your subjects? Go engage your rival in single combat and settle this feud once and for all.

[ ] Roar of the Lion: This is what the Knights were created to do, what they are trained and equipped to do. You're a merchant, an administrator, a ruler, but you're not a warrior, and you're certainly not as great a warrior as Brochard. Leave the task in the capable talons of Hardbeak and his Lions. You're not going to risk your life over some petty grudge.

[ ] Precision Targeting: Well...you still have the Ballistae. And they are pretty accurate. But are they accurate enough to snipe a King in the middle of a crowded, shifting battlefield surrounded by hostile and friendly forces? Only one way to find out.
