Seems a bit doomery to say that a resource we can only give in limited quantities to our elites, as a massive empire, is somehow going to allow a tribal society to completely negate the magic of the Equestrian army.

It's all about supply.
If they can smelt it and have enough to outfit an entire Warband?
Not good.
Don't forget it is also a very strong metal.
That one landmark is called Black Mountain, it must be a massive source of orichalcum.

@Questor Does Snowdrop and co know about the properties of the ore they were mining? Do they know of any other neighbor's they've had contact with?
Has Dawnclaw interrogated the yeti's and if so are they sapient rather then simply highly intelligent animal's?

It would have to be done outside of the influence from that metal, which could mean having to throw those rocks from a sizable distance.....
And also, the Yetis own homeland is likely crawling with anti magic spots (real ones unlike those in Canterbury) making a direct assault by Equestria even more unfeasible what with already having a hostile climate, wildlife, and native people.

yay likely new friends when we get offical contact with them.
also those yeti do not sound like fun ppl to be around.

would like to have a better look around before doing anything overt they sound like trouble.

Agreed
They have been mining from an ore site for MONTHS at MINIMUM! And that might not be the only mine at the area......
And the Yaks have been mining for years from a massive deposit but there still isn't that much avaliable. If the mines were able to supply an entire army, it would be possible to equip much more than 25 knights with the stuff, even accounting for the cost of trading.

Calm down. There is no way the Yetis could take Equestria right now. It would take years for the Yetis to be capable of taking on a proper nation, even if a genius leader rose among them this turn for some reason.

I mean, our 200 soldiers took out an entire camp of well armed yetis without a single loss. If 150 griffons, 36 diamond dogs, etc can do that, our 25,000 strong army could easily deal with even a united assault from the Yetis

And also, the Yetis own homeland is likely crawling with anti magic spots (real ones unlike those in Canterbury) making a direct assault by Equestria even more unfeasible what with already having a hostile climate, wildlife, and native people.
Why would Equestria invade the Yetis?

@Questor When our expedition attacked the mine, did the yetis guarding it have any Orichalcum equipment

Well, I certainly hope I am just paranoid.....
A major turning point in the Quest draws near.
But our limited knowledge, the fact there may be more strip mines, and this has me worried....

That was one clan that lied we have had other clans that have been quite helpful
I know that it was only one clan but between that and Rutherford's continued seeming distaste for us there doesn't seem to be much love for the Empire there and when have other clans done something that actually benefits us outside of helping us with Sombra?
Also the fact that they are trading with us and not trying to stab us in the back like some other nations I can think of is nice.
That's like the bare minimum you can ask of a relatively friendly nation and considering their competition for "worst neighbour" is Maretonia who are fighting a civil war and Canterbury who we don't know if they're actually planning anything isn't saying much
Some'? They literally send almost every single Warrior they had to aid us against Sombra when he first invaded! Without them, we may have lost the War!
I'm pretty sure that was during the second invasion and although they certainly helped considering how well that went I soutb removing them would've cost us the war and that was just as much to save their own lives as it was to help us
And even after that, they were far less ungrateful then you portray them as here. They have been our Trade-Partners and Allies for Decades now.
Yes in trade deals that with the recent exception of orichalcum have been pretty one sided in the Yaks favour and we actually aren't allies and the yaks seemingly don't want to be
What you call 'asshole'-Behavior after they became a Nation is just them making clear that they are now a sovereign State.
Yes but they've chosen to do so by having as little to do with us as they can despite what we've done from them and Rutherford clearly resents how much his country pales in comparison to the Empire
They are still our Allies and Trade-Partners. Why should we betray them?
Again they're not our allies and I'm not saying we should betray them but if an opportunity to annex them where to arise I would be in favour of it

Having more land, access to a major source of orichalcum, an ability to properly integrate Yaks into our society and bring them up to our level of technology faster is better than having a somewhat friendly neighbour who is consistently hesitant to further their ties with us and make sure us pay through the nose for the one thing they have that we actually want

But to be fair, maybe now that the threat is actually on their border rather than ours they'll be more willing to accept our help
They have been mining from an ore site for MONTHS at MINIMUM! And that might not be the only mine at the area......
I mean, considering that we had to design and build a very specific smelter to actually equip orichalcum in a half decent way I highly doubt the Yeti's can actually do so en mass
It would have to be done outside of the influence from that metal, which could mean having to throw those rocks from a sizable distance.....
Ehh, I'm pretty sure orichalcum doesn't have a large range

If you throw a boulder at someone using magic it doesn't matter if the magic is cancelled out when it hits them, they're still being hit by a giant boulder

My guess is that the turning point has to do with Equestria, not with the Yetis.

We should definitely get some spies in the Storm Lands so that we do have advance warning if the Yetis are going to become a bigger danger.

I also want to try to make contact with Equestria.
We could possibly just go through canterbury to get to Equestria based on what the map looks like.
I wonder if Canterbury knows of Equestria.

Well we should ask the usual question like there current map of the world relationship with other country they have, what happen to Discord if they know, there trade, tech (Equestria not that advance yet), species they have political polices, confirm is rulers as in plural and who are they.

Though there is one important question we don't have the answer to. what could be done with that ore if you have enough that you could just go for some super stone or something?
After all, the ore creates natural sites where magic does not work.....

Just @ Questor and they'll reply to any question's we ask

Well seeing this nation is right next to the yak kingdom......annexation for the yaks?
...Um, no? King Rutherford made very clear that Yakyakistan will remain a sovereign Nation. No annexation there without attacking them and I'd rather not.

Potential closer Cooperation against the Yetis with our faithful Yak-Allies though? That's definitely on the Table.
I interpreted Whenyouseeyou's post to mean that the Yaks could annex the Storm Lands, not that we'd annex the Yaks.

How hot do you suppose volcanos are...? Because I'm just thinking, termperaturewise, if you could use the heat inside one to forge.

I think you guys are missing a prime opportunity here. Theres at least one more source of orichalcum, and better yet it's in the hands of a barbaric race that we could easily conquer or even just drive away from the sight. Plus, you guys are forgetting these yetis are a tribal race that most likely does not have the industry or technology aviable to properly smelt orichalcum. What I'm seeing here is a perfect subject for manifest destiny.

Yeah it a perfect manifest destiny......A Perfect manifest destiny for Yaks
