Damn! OK, I understand now why the Emerald Isles don't kick the vikings out: even if they win, they will just retreat back to the substantially larger landmass and aggro the kingdoms into a revenge/prestige quest that would decimate their kingdom.

Ok, a few things to clarify.

First off, apparently I didn't delete the original map files after all. I'd simply not looked in the right place for them. So that's good news for me, as it meant I could get the updated maps out to you all much sooner than I otherwise would have been able to.

Second issue: I can see people have been seriously freaking out about the Caribou. Let me make one thing clear: at no point are we going into Fall of Equestria territory. Had you rolled a One regarding the status of the Caribou (which you didn't) they'd have basically become this universe's equivalent of Norsca.

That's as dark as they were ever going to become.

As I said in a post near the beginning of this Quest: this is not QQ. I have no intention of making a society or culture centered around rape.

Why'd I even put Caribou in the quest? Because I needed a Norse analogue to serve as Vikings and they fit the mold. That's it.

...and I'd already drawn up plans for other nations inhabited by other traditionally Winterized species.

In short: don't panic.

sounds fine dude apart from some panic for nothing its all fine.

still looking forward to next update / turn.

so is there a way we can get the groups to do more or is that more an organic thing your doing?
or more of a balance kind of thing?

anyway thanks for the info

Well for this turn we should definitely go talk to the king of the yaks and maybe even explore what's west of them with them.

Yeah the yaks are serious issue. Their biggest problem is a lack of resources and ariable land. That combo tends to drive nations to either conquest, trade, or a combo of both ala trade empires. Keeping the yaks from becoming aggressive is critcal.

Considering who took over the yaks it seems he would be smart enough to know a war with us would be a bloody affair for both sides so i doubt he would try and start one but yes we should definitely try to keep them on our side and possibly bring them into the alliance with us an neighpon.

Agreed, the problem is that they have very little to bring to the table beyond manpower and dont see them taking aggressive investment or futher aid super well, being prideful and all, not to mention that without some sort of out put yakastan basically becomes a place where investiments go to die. Really i only see a few possible outs for them

1. Begin massive exploration for resources; hope that new techs amd knowledge reveals new resources to exploit.

2. Labor and hr

3: trade, try and reach out to the far west and see if there is anyone worth trading with. The act as an intermediate to us amd them

Well they do have the mountain of that very nice resource that we want so i think we can atleast trade for that which should help them or even have them set up a mining town there to mine it for us to trade.

They also have the oricalchum, possibly more mining sites for other metals, we could always pay them for true prophecies from their shamans if they turn out to be about us or something that would affect us, we can help them develop a fishing/merchant navy, we can bring our railways to their territory to facilitate trade...

I'm sure that, given time, they can come up with more to offer.

To be fair having the caribou become Norsca of all things is cause for panic on its own, we just need to get these viking bros a meadhall and slowly convert thwir culture to the imperial culture and before we know it we've got ourselves a converted kingdoms!

Duchy of Normandeer?

I mean, the French did the same thing.

Might want to threadmark this.

I mean, the Norsca caribou may be a problem for the isles but they're not our problem and I for one intend to keep it that way.

Let them do their raiding shit over there, that's fine. If they come over here and try it we'll just do to them what we did to Sombra.

Raiding an island nation is easy, raiding a nation where every warrior is jacked as fuck, armed to the teeth, and the majority can fly by default, is quite another.

Especially now that we know they're there, have had our people attacked and enslaved by sea going threats before, and are damn sure we're not going to let that crap happen a second time.

Wasn't worried about that but if you introduce the Kingdom of Pingland I'm going to start wondering if we're in an AU/the far past of Equestria at War.
Welp, time to start promoting the Imperial Cult and generally reversing all of the reforms towards tolerance to other species. Chalk it up to the emperor's growing senility. After all, we've gotta make sure Skynavia spawns somehow :p

The problem with that is the mountain is a strategic resource and if its like our s extremely limited. Odds are they are going to be very reluctent to trade the ore away.

Actually i am fairly sure they cant shape it and it screws with their magic (hence the cursed part) which makes it not very useful for them.

Not useful for the shamans, the warrior s would benefit just as much from antimagic armor/weapons as we do. And they dont have the ability to shape it yet. Point is expecting them to just hand it over is absurd and expecting them not to charge through the nose for some of it, not all of it, is optimistic.

Depending on if it blocks beneficial magic it might not be.

Blocking out allies spells isn't exactly ideal for a magic using species.

Ideal for our race of muggles but not so much for almost any other race.
