Question: Would the dead trolls present have been strong enough to do this or would a more powerful creature be required to pull such a feat off?

It was unquestionably the trolls. No need to worry about a much larger and more dangerous creature rampaging across your kingdom. That only would have happened if you'd rolled a 1 or a 2. You rolled a five, so you get a free dragon egg.

It's practically guaranteed either us or some other reasonable adult should raise it.

What, you think we would give a hatchling to be raised by another hatchling? What do you think we are, ponies?
Twilight hatched spike Celestia is the one who raised him.

What would a 6 have gotten us? All the eggs?

Apparently somebody misinterpreted the quote by the philosopher Machibeakli
"It is better to be feared than loved, if you cannot be both." Thus the ideal situation for a ruler is to be both feared and loved.
Brochard apparently just wants to be feared.

Seriously, he's going to be pushing the Feathersian cities into siding with us all on his own.

Between that and the 'shroom farming my bunnies have ideas.

Ah that would have been great a mommy dragon that works for food. Then the baby dragons get to grow up in our safe kingdom.

Any chance that dragon egg is Spike's as to my knowledge how Celestia got spikes egg has not been explained in the show or comics?

Also our birds were complaining about mining and we just had a race ask to join that live to mine so problem solved

Diamond Dogs only willingly part with their gems for two reasons: for barter, or as a tax towards their alpha in exchange for protection. They want to become your subjects.

Ohhhh, I hope we can get some of the D-dogs to be in a Spec-Ops group.

Right plan "Best Brother Dragon" is a go.

OR we can raise it to be a future force multiplier. He'll be young enough to ingrain certain traits In that would be beneficial.

Wouldn't make much sense honestly, this is thousand of years before the beginning of the show after all.

The diamond dogs are both a boon and a problem.

Pros: Diamond dog soldiers will be great for us.
From what's seen in the show, diamond dogs are natural miners. Which is magnifcent because griffions are very much not.

Cons: Griffions 'aint gonna be happy with the fact that diamond dogs are going to be living among us.

Slow, careful integration is what is needed. We shouldn't rush it.

I would rather the dragon See's us as family and friends. Trying to make it a weapon will just backfire on us.

Rome isn't exactly the best standard.

Rome is an excellent standard. They turned numerous diverse and formally hostile peoples into Romans and believers in the Roman way of life. They only fell when they turned away from intergrating other peoples.

Rome also fell apart due to their size. They became so big they were not able to govern themselves properly due to the time it took to communicate anything to the outlaying areas so they stated putting up Governors to run and implement any new laws. This worked until Rome became even bigger and the governors further out started abusing their power and treating the areas as their own fiefdoms . This fostered rebellion in the natives and actual Romans that lived there and weakened the areas as they were not maintained properly.

Cue those areas collapsing into open rebellion and leaving the road open to civil war and invaders.

Edit*
So Rome is a good example to draw from for ideas but they are provide a number of good warnings for what not to do or things to avoid
