Didn't only a few thousand out of 10 000 yaks die?
Yes but until now they presumably only had small semi-ritualized skirmished between clans where the point wasn't to kill everyone, but to defeat their opponents.

This was a war to the knife where where the only path to victory would be to kill the entire enemy army. Very different.

Agreed though we should probably settle the open land to the west past the mountains so we have some forward settlements for them to easily interact with.

So we need to settle the west and start working with the Yaks. That way we can stop the rise of any Genghis Khan expy. Better that they advance and settle down instead of becoming a massive nomatic horde. We can work with the former the latter can only be somewhat directed away from us.

I believe that they are on the way of integration. They are realising that there are threats out there and that they are safer inside the empire.

The Thaw: The unnatural blizzard that had fallen over your lands has begun to recede, the bitter cold finally giving way to the warmth of Spring. Farmers return to their normal routines in earnest, eager to get back to planting and harvesting, though more than a few have taken a keen interest in the hothouses. Though established as an emergency measure, their utility in peacetime seems obvious to many who can appreciate the idea of growing warm-weather crops year-round. Regardless, it appears the risk of famine is now at an end, and repairs have already begun in earnest on the few structures damaged by the heavy snowfall. +500 Farming Income

We also have our farms returning to normal now that the blizzard stopped.

Also we will need to make a diplomatic contact with our other neighbor, across the seas.

@Questor has the dice that you roll for when we meet someone already been rolled for our neighbor across the water when their ship found us or does it still have to be rolled?

Age: 39

Titles: Emperor of Gryphus, King of Griffonia, Inheritor of the Imperial House of Gryphus, The Unifier, Great Winged Alpha

Description: At first glance, you seem like a pretty average example of the Griffon race. Head of an eagle, body of a winged lion, standing perhaps a hair taller than most other quadrupedal species. Your wife's workout regimen has also improved your physique, cords of taut muscle now visible across your body.

-5 Mobile Ballistae: Massively oversized mechanical bows that fire bolts big enough to pierce through tree trunks from vast distances.

Knightly Orders (Self Maintained): In the old Empire, Knightly Orders were typically made up of Griffons of noble birth who joined a fraternal militant organization dedicated to martial excellence, honor, and a number of various edicts of moral strength. These great warriors dedicated themselves to the Emperor and the protection of the common Gryph. Tragically, few of these brave souls survived the reign of Discord. But a new breed of Knights now seeks to serve as your sword and shield, and will rally to your banner whenever you may need them.

Diplomatic Relations

Persons of Interest

???: A friendly and strangely casual Griffon female you met at your inaugural ball. Despite having a wonderful evening chatting with her, you never got her name.

Garibaldi Talonuelli: Formerly the Duke of Wingbardy, now the Archduke of Wingbardy, Talonuelli is a beloved public figure in his home province and an experienced administrator. After saving his city and people from Brochard's attempted invasion and negotiating his province's vassalage over a few drinks, you'd like to think you can count him among your friends.

Federico Montefeathertro: Duke of the (former) City-State of Urbirdo, and your Father-in Law. He might just be the friendliest of the former Feathersians, having agreed to back you and your kingdom without question or condition during the Brochard Crisis, and hiring a mercenary outfit as a belated wedding gift. You're reasonably certain he likes you, as much as In-Laws can like each other anyway.

I feel like the most vital things for next turn are starting fortifications, repairing our army, and helping the Yaks in any way we can. More exploration, Qilin contact, and rebuilding any damages the blizzard caused are secondary.

So for diplomacy we need to integrate the Yaks as citizens of the Empire or form an alliance through which we aid them in the development of a civilization of their own. Probably something similar to the feudal system in Asian countries. Then for intrigue we need to keep an eye on Sombra to determine what he's doing and begin drawing up plans to invade and wipe out the taint of his presence.

Didn't only a few thousand out of 10 000 yaks die?

They lost 1/4 of their entire forces and the only thing they do was staying on the frontline. They most likely killed only 15 to 25% of the entire enemy and that was mostly thanks to our traps, artillery, bows and the Avalanche. If they were alone they would have been exterminated without prejudice.

I think we need to make contact with our eastern neighbors before anything else. If we don't go to them, they'll come to us. Besides, I don't think the yaks will be open to any sort of diplomacy just yet. They're probably still recovering from the shock of fighting sombra, and they'll need to recover a bit before they can think about centralizing or integrating with us.

I wouldn't be sure about that. They saw first-hand how strong we are, and fighting alongside each other probably broke the ice. they might come up with some offer for us (alliance,trade..) of their own initiative

We should really focus on recovery and integration of the new tech into our economy, imagine getting more then the limited cannons we had and more ammo for it as well, doing so would also solidify it into our culture, we come up with better ways to transport it, find new ways to make it easier for travel for flight capable creatures like us griffins. Maybe explore more avenues for something more complex then a cannon.

Your horn is bleeding, and you are clutching it's cut-off part in your hoof.

+15 to a roll! I think you really captured Sombra's reaction to his defeat here.

Okay @Questor I know you've declared the "Comtemplation" omake as canon but you may need to reread the line I have quoted above from @PurposefulZephyr post. And then reread these here:

The grandmaster comes in for another attack, catching the sorcerer off guard while he's busy firing away at you and Gabriella. Once again, the equine moves to duck...but the Grandmaster catches more than his mane. With the sharp blades greaves attached to his talons, the Kingslayer severs the king's horn.

For a split second, it seems that the entire world freezes, even the wind not daring to move as the magic organ of the shadow sorcerer tumbles to the ground. Predictably, it is your foe who breaks the silence.

Sparks of raw magic erupts from his broken horn, his entire body glowing and vibrating with raw magical power as he screams in pain that has nothing to do with his injury.

Does that mean that to get his full power back, he will have to send his minions to recover his horn?

Oh no, you burned that damn thing to ashes the first chance you got, Garrick is taking no chances.

Because it seems that you're saying that Sombra has his severed horn with him when in your post you claim that it blew up. If I've misunderstood then let me know and please clarify for me cause I really don't see where I went wrong if it's my mistake.

You are vastly underestimated just how hard it's going to be to integrate the Yaks. They have realized that they need to change doesn't mean they're even going to want to join us. They'll be more likely to side with us if we help them but expecting instant or even the ability to properly integrate them first is asking for too much.

We should also send spies down south, to see how much we hurt Sombra and get an estimate on how long will it take him to recover.

Tribal/Nomadic warfare isn't usually very bloody. Casualties usually don't exceed double digits, so having lost over a thousand of their warriors came as quiet the shock.

That and the nature of Sombre's magic power.

The mind-controlled( does anyone know about this in-universe?) apparently fearless army, the abominations, the crystals, Sombre's magic hands at the end, and his survival.

Yes, it seems the yanks have no choice but to do some soul searching in the aftermath.
