So who is thinking regroup numbers, seek allies, and go all out assaulting sombra?

Because I am not inclined to allowing it to regrow. Rather razing it and it's land seems best.

These are the white walkers to our north except they don't wait for winter.
If they choose to come down, I would just point out that we would be a pittance compared to the feast the Crystal Empire and its dark lord to the south would provide.

Gryphon was a good choice. Not only for catbirds being awesome, but for surviving as muggles in a magical world.
(unless something starts causing a psyker/mage situation like in warhammer. All that magic had to go somewhere. I don't think we are going that direction and I like this industrialization.)

We got lucky, and it might not be that way in future turns, but we are getting there.

Agreed. It would be a waste to give Sombra a chance to just rebuild. We should be seizing the Crystal Empire and if he ever tries building an army again we should crush it before he gets further than the first 1000 soldiers.

Lets recover and prepare first. See what new options we have for the next turn or two.

Oh! Also, since weve fought together, how do you all feel about ennacting an open border policy with the yaks? Or perhaps something more? While I doubt they'd straight up join the empire, even though weve fought together, i think fighting a battle that could have destroyed all of us is a good enough reason to put some agreements on the table, like... I dunno, honorary citizenship? Not sure how theyd take that, or if wed offer it. Starting with open borders, at least, could be a possible way to getting a future diploannex.

I was hoping we could get some kind of treaty with the yaks buts it gonna be hard if they stay divided after this. But we shall see also i say we meet our eastern neighbors and start building a wall that will put the great wall of china to shame.

After all my YES and NO while reading the update, the final verdict: awesome!

In the end it went worse than i hoped, but a lot better than i feared. Luckily we got mostly good rolls. We lost somewhere between 40% and 50% i think, which is still a good result when we faced an army TWICE OUR SIZE led by PONY SAURON.

The ten thousand that came don't represent the entirety of the Yak population. The very young, the very old, and some caretakers were left behind. A small handful of warriors were also left to protect them should this Defence of the pass have failed.

That's not to say this wasn't a serious blow to their numbers, just that's it's not as bad as it first appears.
Damn, they're fewer than i thought. So their whole population is what, 30 to 60.000 at most?

...Can we try to convince them to...relocate to our kingdom? I think we could build them a nice city even! I'm sure we have much to offer each other, and their kingdom didn't seem like much of a good place to live.

We could even simply push a bit to have their clans decide/elect a joint leader. This IS a good occasion to unite the Yaks under a sympathetic leader

Eh, Next turn we'll probably have some options to capitalize on our good first impression.

Yeah, that's less Male Pony bullshit and more Earth Pony bullshit. When it comes to being exemplars of their race's magical traits, Big Mac and Maud are the Earth Pony equivalents of Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash.
don't forget pinkie! I'm half convinced she's a descendant of Discord...

eh, with the losses we got i think we should take 2 or 3 years before going.

We have to, at the very leasy

1)recruit enough soldiers to cover our losses and upgrade our military tech...again (I will remind you the militia won't go on an offensive war)
2)come to an agreement with the Yaks on what to do, and maybe try to convince them to join our empire (we don't command the Yaks. They might not want to go)
3)make contact with the Fire Nation Qilin.
4)improve our steel production and steam technology so that we can mass produce armors, weapons, artillery...
5)send spies to the Crystal Empire (and maybe to the lands even more to the south, beyond it). We CAN'T decide what to do until we know what we'll actually find there. If he seems especially vulnerable we MIGHT consider speeding it up.
6)whatever i'm forgetting (I'm SURE i'm forgetting something!)

Huh.

Not going to ask how quickly he could do so if it's the case (because that would be too much information for free, I think), but is Sombra permanently nerfed from this, or can he recover fully?

There are other mountain passes. Just forting up this entrance will not stop a second attack.

Well we survived Sombra is wounded but will return honestly this is a Phyric victory but against a MLP-Sauron/daemon Prince that is pretty much as good admit possible we must shore up our defenses on the border but we won't be able be able to make my invasions for years after this and neither will Sombra seems his physical form was killed but since he is a Umbran he can just stay as a mist or make a new form.
He probably wont, unless Radiant pops up to save her Husbando...

Rarity and Tom say hello...

I'm quite curious what's going to happen to the Crystal Empire after such a severe setback for Sombra, we do need to spend some intrigue actions to get in there, there has to be SOME sort of resistance to Sombra that we could help or interact with. Sombra's magic likely at its weakest now's the time to investigate, and hey... it's hard to do worse than the 1 that got us pinnacle evil Sombra.

In terms of rebuilding we need to build those fortresses and defense, along the southern border. We also need to develop mobile versions of flamethrowers.

However this is also a time for rebuilding and exploiting assets at home that we haven't before, like those forests, Public works projects also bear consideration: roads, aqueducts, post office? All of these would facilitate commerce/economic development in some way, and make coordinating any sort of quick mobilization a LOT easier. How far away can railroads be for us at this point?

Oh and of course victory celebrations...

Im also not sure whats left to do for our grandmaster Hardbeak we gave the guy a statue whats next to give him cause he definitly earned it say erect a memorial in the honor of all those who have fallen in battle with it being guarded by a statue of him at the front?

Given the his reaction to the first attempt at a statue I don't think he is the kind of guy who wants that type of thing. I say that we just given him the best medical treatment we can possibly offer and maybe give him the office of marshal if he still wants it.

Fair enough, though i still think a memorial is in order maybe with a statue of griffion, yak , and dog together in it to show our unity.

Yes, all three struggling together and supporting each other against an abomination. Beautiful I love it 100%

Anywho, So for offensive is regroup, expand, prepare, and then charge the empire?

And another thing I wanted to put forth for the future

Speaking of buildings, do we have something in the way of a grand library? Having a central place where we can store information that anyone can use would be really nice. Im sure the yaks and diamond dogs have some folk stories and histories theyve passed down and never written. And given the world were in, those folk stories have at least a grain of truth to them.

Not to mention having a large place to store info has the benefits of helping educate people, outside reforming the education system.

So basically grand memorial, grand library, and a grand wall these next few turn are gonna be expensive. But they are all worth it.

Actually I have a better idea than a Grand library.

A Grand University at Griffonstone, the old city that was the center of the first Gryphus Empire, you know before Discord showed up. If we really want to cement our empire we will have to revitalize Griffonstone as a suitably grand capital and place of learning... Hard to reason why not, it's pretty centrally located I think, we HAD the council there after all.

Also the university can have a Library. If we get it done in 10 years or so Gawain can attend. See most parents have to just apply to college. Gabriella and Garrick spent the better part of ten years unifying a nation... just to get their son to the top of the list at a university THEY had to found... Yes... it is THAT prestigious and snooty.

Was actually hoping to build up to that. Big grand library open to the public, but apart of the university where anyone with a knack for learning and invetion can gather, which would be established in order to advance the information already in it. Maybe even tie in a military arms brach to it, for those that like to blow things up.

Just having a university that anyone could join would be great. Although only the literate would probably be able to attend right now... Would need proper pulbic schools for hope for future generations. Or at least branches of the university going out and providing help on that front.

Wonderbar! we won!woooo!
Now we must rebuild bigger and better, gain a defensive pact with the yak, improve our cannons (ie. Riffling, explosive shot, morters,Puckle Guns, canister/grape shot) a monument to the fallen, pull a Trump and in that pass and stuff it with cannons, to name a few. So many things to do so little time.

I propose we instead name it Archimedes University in his honor or at the bare minimum name the engineering, agricultural or chemistry builds after him and Genevieve. They earned it from this battle alone with their inventions.

But I do think it should wait a while, we need to defeat Sombra fully and replenish our treasury a bit before we do anything like that. Winning wars are both critical to stay alive and very expensive.

Also if we do this the I demand a Omake based around Luna or Celestia coming over for their university days!

Rarity and Tom say hello...
Considering how Rarity was mind controlled, thus opening up the possibility of the subconscious limits we have on our muscles getting messed with, and how she was visibly struggling to carry it, it remains within plausibility. I wouldn't be surprised if she had to get treated for muscle strain or something after Discord was defeated.

Yeah, that seems sound, since its what Id like.

an unknown civilization has built the grand library

"Ugh... Damn it. Guess Ill switch over production to the great wall."

an unknown civilization has built the great wall

"Well, there goes that plan. Might as well go for the te-"

An unknown civilization has built the terracotta army (I dont know what wonder to place for a war monument...)

"Oh, come on! At least the university is still-"

An unknown civilization has built gryphon-ford university

"I guess Im never building a wonder then."

We can not attack the Empire even weakened it is Sombra's stronghold. We need to fully recover this isn't going to be a few years thing. It will take a long time. We also still have no way to kill or banish him. He wasn't banished this time he turned to mist and flew away under his own power. Bu the time we have recovered and our allies have recovered it is likely that Sombra would have defenses built up in his Empire he isn't stupid. We may be able to recover faster than him but we need to grow larger and more powerful before we even think about invading an enemy in their power base.

Those numbers don't make much sense to me. But I'm not the GM, so I'll drop it.
How do the numbers not make sense? The kingdoms of Europe during the middle ages had even larger numbers of people in them. It took the black death killing off a major portion of that population to force the Europeans to develop labor-saving technology because they no longer had literal unending numbers of workers.

Oh hell YES! Epic victory!

Right now I am blasting all the Sabaton songs I can get my hands on at full volume, while waving around two imperial flags that I just printed. And holding back an impulse to write an omake, because I can't write for shit.

Oh yes, and all the talk about improving our steam and arms tech... I can't help but imagine Iron Harvest Polania-style clunky steampunk mechs with imperial flags on them.

Kinda weird that loosing his horn had such an impact on Sombra. When Cadence cut it off in the show he had exactly zero fucks to give about loosing it.
