So what do you guys think Sombra's thought process was throughout this whole battle?

I imagine at first when he sent the first wave he was amused as they used up all of our traps, when the second wave came and went he was probably surprised by the sink hole ultimately was probably impressed at how well we were doing. After the third wave he was probably thoroughly annoyed as we had taken out most of his army by that point and those were probably some troops he actually cared about as more then cannon fodder. Then we know from when we dropped the mountain pass on him on up he was just gradually rising moments of pissed.

At the end of the day we lost less than half our army to utterly destroy an army twice our size, by any measure that is an amazing victory. Depending on if the blizzard ends, we could probably fully recover within a year or two.

Maybe. We definitely need to send out some more expeditions for information. I would ask the Yaks due to their natural abilities, but they have now suffered a considerable depopulation crisis. The poor bastards are going to need our help to just survive.

On an unrelated note, Our Kingslayer has added another notch to his belt. Keep this up and he might upgrade to Doom Slayer

The ten thousand that came don't represent the entirety of the Yak population. The very young, the very old, and some caretakers were left behind. A small handful of warriors were also left to protect them should this Defence of the pass have failed.

That's not to say this wasn't a serious blow to their numbers, just that it's not as bad as it first appears.

It was a hell of a gamble, but congrats ladies and gents, it paid off.

Let's not do it again though, given we almost lost our wife because of it when we had a more sound strategic option available.

Still, yay victory. Maybe we'll get lucky and not have to deal with finishing him off as Celestia and Luna come to smack him down and find him far weaker than he'd have been. Though that'd remove looting opportunity.

Still we'll see how we're poised when we learn more about the aftermath and our position in the upcoming turn.

@Questor Will the blizzard Sombra made over our lands end with his retreat?

When news gets back to the nation from our soldiers about what happened, there will probably be a large increase in support for the military, which should help us recover.

Next turn I want to stock up on wood so the logging action, increase farmland to prevent starvation if weather allows it, and get our new furnaces for the orichalcum.

It should. Even if he could have personally kept that spell going he lost his horn. For a unicorn that would be the equivalent of a dolphin losing its tail.

Yes it could technically still swim, but it's going to be a lot less graceful about it.

A spell that size needs power yes, but also finesse, and you cant do that when some mad bastard rips your arms off.

From the look of it, we lost... roughly 1/3 of our soldiers, mostly frontline fighters.
No losses in heavy ordinance, which is great- it's a great force multiplier (or ravager, depending which side you take).
Honestly worried Sombra would copy our designs of those. Probably not, but even a pre-prepared spell (or just spearing our artillery crews from afar) would suffice.

With a groan, you stand, pulling your wife to her feet...just in time for a smoldering Konrad Hardbeak to land only a few wingspans away from you. You hurry over, checking his pulse....and sigh in relief. Just unconscious...and burned, but nothing that a few weeks of proper care can't fix. You look over towards the spot where the dark king once stood...and see only a blackened crater, a whisp of smoke hanging above it.

Grand Master has earned his paycheck.

Speak of the devil just got done.

Right so here is the first troop numbers list we were given are only losing a few troops in the initial clash:
Imperial Knightly Orders

The Knights Lion

1 Grandmaster Konrad Hardbeak, "The Kingslayer"
30 Knights of the Inner Circle
200 Imperial Knights
300 Squires
600 Griffons-at-Arms

The Knights Talon

1 Grandmaster Colombroni Pigeonio
20 Knights of the Inner Circle
200 Imperial Knights
300 Squires
600 Griffons-at-Arms

The Knights Panther

1 Grandmaster Adrian Dawnquill
20 Knights of the Inner Circle
200 Imperial Knights
300 Squires
600 Griffons-at-Arms

Mercenaries

The War Wolves

495 Diamond Dogs
The Wood Stalkers

190 Warriors, 300 Archers
The Black Pikes

450 Pikes
The Crimson Company

475 Gryphon Berserkers
The Troll Busters

4 Static Flamethrowers

Auxiliaries/Allies

14,950 Imperial Militia
9,980 Yak Chargers

And here is this one:
Imperial Army of Gryphus

5840 Warriors
1960 Polearms
3800 Archers
490 Diamond Dogs
5 Mobile Ballistae
4 Cannons
2 Flame Projectors

Imperial Knightly Orders

The Knights Lion

1 Grandmaster Konrad Hardbeak, "The Kingslayer"
18 Knights of the Inner Circle
90 Imperial Knights
120 Squires
245 Griffons-at-Arms

The Knights Talon

1 Grandmaster Colombroni Pigeonio
12 Knights of the Inner Circle
105 Imperial Knights
155 Squires
290 Griffons-at-Arms

The Knights Panther

1 Grandmaster Adrian Dawnquill
14 Knights of the Inner Circle
120 Imperial Knights
210 Squires
350 Griffons-at-Arms

Mercenaries

The War Wolves

245 Diamond Dogs
The Wood Stalkers

32 Warriors, 225 Archers
The Black Pikes

95 Pikes
The Crimson Company

26 Gryphon Berserkers
The Troll Busters

4 Static Flamethrowers

Auxiliaries/Allies

8,465 Imperial Militia
7,610 Yak Chargers
For the Imperial army:
Warriors are at 58%
Polearms at 39%
Archers at 76%

As for auxiliaries:
Militia are at 56%
The Yaks are at 76%

Overall the main body of our force it absolutely ravaged. Our main line of fighters is at half strength and while the archers and Yaks are still intact you have to remember that this is the full strength of the Yaks we are talking about they won't be replenishing for a generation.

I'll do the knights in a later post.
Quoted my first post for anyone who want to check my math or look at the original numbers.

The Knights lion:
Konrad is still technically alive but will definitely take a long time to recover if at all.
Inner circle knights are at 60%
Regular knights at 45%
Squires at 40%
Men at arms at 41%

The Knights Talon:
Inner circle at 60%
Regular knights at 52.5%
Squires at 52%
Men at arms at 48%

The Knight Panther:
Inner circle knights at 70%
Regular knights at 60%
Squires at 70%
Men at arms at 58%

Overall the Knights Lion took the worst with both their grandmaster incapacity and losing over 2/3 of their numbers while the other two got off slightly better only a half.

However, given knightly order work by promoting squires to knighthood and regular knights to Inner circle I suspect this will change in term of percentage. A lot of squires should be promoted to knight since they are absolutely bloodied now so once they get the chance to reorganize the number of normal knights should rise and squires suddenly shrink to very small until new ones are recruited.

Still while it will be harder since they are elites I don't think any of the order are in danger of being unable to recover even if they might be in a weaker state for our next bout against Sombra.

I think we should start to invest in anti-espionage measures. If Lord of the Rings is of any indication, they will be subversive elements that will arrive to cause havoc. Elevate the incompetent, encourage the ambitious and poison the noble.
