So, a thought: it possible that there is s the Grand Count of Wissenland was not told about The conspiracy of Silence, even though it should be obvious that if someone should be told, it would be an EC.

... is it possible that no one tells him these things because everyone, other EC's to his own men, knows that there is no way he will not blabber it out at some point.

and we just told him some stuff without thinking about it...

opps?

If he had serious problem keeping secrets wouldt him knowing about Skaven already be problem ?

I think that most people read in conspiracy of silence don't even know why the conspiracy exists in the first place.

He already knew about the Skaven, Mathilde just told him why they were supposed to be a secret.

"Right, I sent them out. Rats are a secret, after all. What's that about? Nobody can give me a straight answer."

"They call it the 'Conspiracy of Silence'. The theory is if they think we don't know about them, then they'll feel safe enough to fight amongst themselves rather than uniting against humanity."

I don't see how that could be an issue.

"Damn. Anyway, that's the score. You're good at killing rats, and we've got a lot of rats that need killing. You'll have all the resources of Wissenland behind you, and if you're like the Dark Lady and want to build a creepy tower, you can have the Iron Isle - it's the size of a city block but the Dwarves get annoyed if we try to do anything with it, but they like you, right?"
LOL, even the characters are noticing her hobby of building bases.
"This is why Wissenland needs you. Put an enemy in front of me and I'll fight them. Put a politician in front of me and I'll yell at them. But secret underground rat bases? Ancient Dwarven history? I need someone who can sort that out, and when I asked people who know about this sort of thing, your name kept coming up. I'll pay well, I'll give you whatever support you need, and if you want to get up to creepy Wizard stuff in your off hours, Nuln is used to that sort of thing."
I quite like this guy.

Also, Belegar and Mathilde are adorable.

Personally, I'm honestly expecting that whatever way BoneyM takes us, I'll likely enjoy it.

I want Swamp Town, but mostly under the diplomacy option so if it's not sure how it'll turn out I won't commit.

Wow, that was quite a read. Of the things I voted for:

Swamp Town option gave me exactly what I wanted out of it: an explanation of WTF was going on over there that merited a Lady Magister getting sent the invitation. Turns out they all get sent that form letter. Not going to vote for it, but it completely answered the question, "Seriously, though: Why?!" It would be fun, but not as important as all the future-proofing we could be doing over here instead.

Marksgraf sounds good. Sylvania is still in a terrible state. Would be an extraordinary achievement to actually bring it some measure of prosperity, or at the bare minimum, functionality.

Waystones, I think I'll pass on for now. Very big project, and would be slow to build momentum. No need to rush it while there are more immediate things.

You recall your visit to Kraka Ravnvake. "Not for lack of trying. No, this is a more in general sort of thing. I'm wondering what the future duties of Loremaster Weber would be."

He nods. "The Karak is a lot more secure and orderly than it was when the Council was formed, and the same can't be said for the entire Karaz Ankor. The position is yours for as long as you want it and I'd be more than happy to keep you in reserve for when the next disaster comes knocking on our gates, but if you want to go further afield there's all sorts of ways you could be useful by building goodwill amongst the other Karaks. There was a time when every Karak lived as Karak Azul once did, where other Karaks were some theoretical thing that you heard from a few times a decade, but in this age of gyrocopters we're much more a united people, and that's on the verge of becoming more so with the canals. I want Karak Eight Peaks to retake its place at the forefront of the Karaz Ankor, and you could be a big part of that."

"Do you have anything specific in mind?" you ask curiously.

"I'm sure Karak Vlag could use assistence in making sense of the world they've returned to." He thinks for a moment more. "Zhufbar has a nest of Fire Dragons in one of their upper halls that has resisted every conventional attempt to evict them. Karak Norn always has strange and mystical troubles of one sort or another. Barak Varr has some sort of plan for Sartosa, which was an outpost of theirs long ago, but in modern times has proven able to resist any conventional assault - and there's also talk about something in the Border Princes to stamp out the pirate problems, you might be able to help with whatever that turns out to be. Karaz-a-Karak might be meaning to take a poke at Mount Silverspear - when I met with the Grey Mountains Clans they let slip that they're apparently also in talks with Karaz-a-Karak. If that's the case, they'd probably need something novel to avoid it going the same way as the Silver Road Wars. The current Emperor is asking for Dwarven assistance in securing under-Ubersreik... and undoubtedly there's plenty more that I'd hear word of once the Karaz Ankor realizes that you'd be available to help out."

You nod thoughtfully. "That does sound interesting. I'll give it some thought over the next few months. Speaking of, what did you want me doing now that I'm back?"

He smiles. "On top of recovering Karak Vlag and ending the uncertainty around Karag Dum? You were mining the seam from both ends in the lead-up to the Expedition. If you're absolutely desperate for something to keep your hands busy then the Lhune Depths could use poking around in, but don't feel obliged if you need to spend some time recovering. As much as you do your best to prove otherwise, I know humans aren't quite as sturdy as Dwarves."

Loremaster-at-Large I wasn't expecting to like, but this jumped WAY up in things I would enjoy doing/reading. Combination diplomacy/buttkicking is one of Mathilde's strengths. And it does one of things Belegar finds most useful at the moment in Eight Peaks: applying the maximum amount of Mathilde to a problem with a minimum expenditure of dwarfpower (and a moderate amount of money thrown at it, what with him being fabulously wealthy these days).

He seems to be under a lot less stress than I'd thought, too. Or maybe he's just really happy to forge further ties with other Dwarfholds.

Just woke up and I am very pleased at the increase of support for the Bodyguard option while I was asleep.

Maybe I should just sleep the whole vote away? :thonk:
Only if you're willing to take an elephant's worth of tranquilizers. Most recent votes seem to go on for a good couple of days, and this one is downright massive. We already have a twenty four hour moratorium after all. :V

She hesitates. "My preference would be the Holy Order of the Templars of Sigmar, but I'd understand if you'd rather bring in another organization to assist with that. The Longshanks have expressed an interest, as have Zhufbar's Order of the Stone Wall, which you'd probably get along with. There's already the Black Guard and the Dreamwalkers here, so I don't think the Fellowship would be a good fit. Priory of the Spear, maybe? Helhunten's? I hear the current Andanti is fairly skilled, or the Knights of Everlasting Light... it'd be entirely in your hands."
that pause...

poor fuckers are already building that reputation for bad luck, aren't they.

They've had that reputation for over a thousand years by now.
Pretty sure they've had it since the Crusades where they were cursed in the first place.
Could you WHF nerds post a rundown of who these folks you're cringing at are for those of us in the back?

Actually, a "who's who" of all those orders mentioned would be nice. Boney already explained the Order of the Stone Wall, and someone else explained the Longshanks, but I don't know any of the others except, of course, the Black Guard and the Holy Order of the Templars of Sigmar.

Knightly order dedicated to Verena. Insanely terrible luck- like, they've had to move chapter-houses do to losing the old ones to earthquakes and meteor strikes.

Said to have been cursed when they slaughtered an innocent village in the crusade.

Renowned for tremendous heroism, in-between dying from choking on food and falling down stairs.

We already know how to do that and he knows we know.

It would be one way to get an immortal heir with Ulgu powers if we ourselves can't be immortal. Make it a citizen of the Empire, give it an Ulgu education, let it inherit all of our things, definitely would make for a greatly intersting NPC in the next quest.
Our future boss also refers to 'being a wizard' as 'creepy magic stuff'
Just think a moment on who the most prominent Wizard in his city is. The one he has probably interacted the most with. Creepy magic stuff is exactly what he is used to and he'll probably find the lack of obvious creepiness in our vicinity weird. Like, "Lots of mist everywhere and your shadow acts weirdly? Is that all? And your tower just looks like a Dwarven tower, where the hell are the spikes and the creeping feeling of imminent death?"
You do understand that the purpose of that rule is to limit the power of the Grey college? That this rule is bad for them? Keeps them weaker, and less able to achieve their goals?
Do you think Teclis specifically told all other seven Colleges that they should make sure eighth should have far fewer rights than them? That's a Grey College internal rule. They made it up themselves. It exists to make sure that their newly trained Wizards don't get any ideas on how to use and abuse their powers. No one but them enforces it, except when they ask for backup from other Wizards to catch a Rogue.
Boney already explained the Order of the Stone Wall
I still have a hard time understanding how an Order of Dwarven Witch Hunters would operate in a Human polity, let alone what the point of Dwarven Witch Hunters even is beyond having a squad/throng of warriors that are good at beating mages of other races to pulp during battle.

Order of Everlasting Light pissed off a god a thousand years ago and got themselves cursed to die in inglorious and ignoble ways.

They have a ridiculous number of strange, random, embarrassing, and stupid deaths. Like... they could charge into battle and a crack would open right in the way of their charge, sending them all to their deaths. And the enemy have absolutely no spellcasters of any kind.

Alright, from the top down. The Knights of the Everlasting Light are a knightly order in the Empire devoted to Verena. They fight fearlessly, they fight in the name of justice wherever they go... and they are famous for being cursed. You see, back about a thousand years ago, Bretonnia, the Empire, Estalia and Tilea embarked on a crusade against Araby after they had invaded Estalia. During this crusade, the Knights of the Everlasting Light went through a village, and killed everyone there. For doing so, they were cursed to forevermore die in ignominious manners. There's many an account of the Knights fighting insurmountable odds, surviving, and then going to shortly thereafter die from tripping down the stairs, choking on food, having their horses trip while on a casual ride and other such embarrassing deaths.

...Can Magisters be non-human? It doesn't seem like something they would bother to specify, and it might be funny if, in a few decades or so, we ended up with a dragon as Supreme Patriarch/Matriarch.

I'm fairly certain that to become a Magister, one would first have to complete their apprenticeship and Journeying. I don't know how much luck you would have with getting a dragon to learn humility through menial chores like everyone else on the curriculum.

Apparently Halfling Wizards are very rare but do exist. And Ogres could exist, if they were interested and trusted enough on an individual basis, which hasn't happened yet.
I don't know how much luck you would have with getting a dragon to learn humility through menial chores like everyone else on the curriculum.
Doesn't that depend at least partially on parenting? Or do you think their arrogance is instinctive?

So apparently I'm rereading this and doing a typo hunt.
the fact that sixteen hours of galloping would turn your body below the waste into pulp.

missing a "few" before "holy icons".
The man was failed by sigmar
Missing capitalization on "Sigmar".
The founding of the Stirland Watch and it's expansion underground
This is the one (well, if there are more I don't know of them) case where apostrophe-s isn't a possessive - "it's" -> "its"
A bustling staff of people who's job titles could be found nowhere but in a college
"who's" -> "whose" (for the same reason)
This enchantment is like construction of the barbarian shaman's time
I think this should be "shamans'", plural.
it's handle leaned against the table.
"it's" -> "its"
"And on who's behalf?"
"who's" -> "whose"
genetic throwback to it's wolf ancestors
"it's"->"its"
Either way, in tribute to the lost Wolf and as, you suppose, a thank you to you for his victory over Stromfels.
This is a sentence fragment.
Emperor Mandred, who's death plunged the Empire into centuries of civil war
"who's"->"whose"
its only character now is that it has been given.
I would say "that which it has been given" but I can't say it's wrong to say this.
the Underways current inhabitants
"Underways" -> "Underway's"
And its not only your mundane senses causing alarm,
"its" -> "it's". It's is "it is", its is "belonging to it". It's only pronouns that have this particular weirdness, but they do.
While they had build up more than enough goodwill

...Just find/replace "Swarvern" with "Dwarven".
Should this be "Familiar Obsession"?
so the combination practically unheard of?
"the combination is"
you reflect as you make your way up an mountain-length staircase
"up a mountain-length"
having cast quite a few spells and some quite tricky in a short amount of time.
That last bit...seems like it's missing a word somewhere. That, or it has too many.
From this distance an arrow is invisible, but a volley of thousands shouldn't be, but if the archers are firing they're not coordinated enough to form a volley, and the greenskin lines surge forward, now free of the lava and lightning that torments the Citadel.
This is a run-on sentence.

They're definitely unsmelted ore, but there's good metal there.
....Not a correction, but can I just say I love how the dwarfy metaphors just creep into the narration over time?
"Stirland thanks Karak Eight Peaks for it's intervention in this matter."
"it's" -> "its"
But the ego of Dwarven Grandmasters
I think this should be "ego" -> "egos".
din of a Skaven-on-Skaven battlefields
Either remove the "a" or depluralize "battlefields".
and No-Relation Reicthard and Dragomas
...I don't know why I think this but I keep thinking that Reicthard needs another 'h' to be Reichthard.
Suns out, so we don't need it.

"peaks" -> "peeks"
But while they have had their previous tasks backburnered, you are freed to return to your previous tasks.

Remove the comma after "Say".
A longed-wished-for child of a King
I think this should be "long-wished-for" or "longed-for".
with towers and crenellations stretching far into the sky until abrupty cutting off at the flattened peak.
"until abrupty cutting off" -> "until they abruptly cut off"
noting as you do that filing discretely into the courtyard, the handful of attendents that the Sacred Flame always has have been reinforced to an even score of White Wolves.
first off, "discretely" -> "discreetly" and "attendents" -> "attendants". second off, i'd consider restructuring the sentence - something like "noting as you do that the handful of attendants that the Sacred Flame always has have been reinforced, with an even score of White Wolves filing discreetly into the courtyard", but I can't say that I have a strong reason to do this other than "as it is it feels clunky".
have been received only enough attention
remove "been"
So it's near certain you're not going to get any straight answers from the Dwarves about the nature of Valaya's repelling of magical energies, so you go straight to experimentation.
This isn't wrong but it is repetitive - consider changing "so you go" to "and you go"?
"It's quite exhilerating."
"exhilerating" -> "exhilarating"
But that had been a back in Ostermark

Okay, now back to the present.

Nah, he's been read in on what it is, nobody explained to him why it is in language plain enough for him to understand, I think.

As far as votes: I don't think I want to go near Heidi's offer with a ten-foot pole, to be honest, for many of the same reasons other people don't. Wish we could've gotten info on being Ranald's High Priest in Kislev, but I feel like that's still not our relationship. We're not a priest, we're a champion. We go out and hit things. We don't really minister to the faithful.

Loremaster at Large appeals to me somewhat, enough that I think I might vote for it. Markgraf of "Eastern Stirland", similarly.

However, there's a whole bunch of stuff already on the ground to take care of vampires and weird stuff. The ability to take care of Skaven...I don't know whether it's just my not knowing any WHF lore but what's been laid out here, or if there's just really not any similar assets, but I get the feeling that there really aren't high-quality anti-Skaven assets available for this. And there is that warning from the Celestial Matriarch.

That said, I still find the Waystone project really interesting. I want to poke the magic rocks. And get Kragg that seviroscope already.

The Dreamwalkers: Morr Hunters of Undead and Necromancers, their big thing is that they don't really 'hunt' so much as interpret vision in the right direction.

The Priory of the Spear: a Myrmidian order of Vampire Hunters with dual locations in Monte Negro and Siegfriedhof, the latter of which is now the Abbey of Blessed Aethelbert the Vigilant.

Fellowship of the Shroud: Also Morr Vampire hunters: politics with the other Morr hunters and the cult in general means that they dont work well with the rest.

Helhunten's Redeemers: technically a Sigmar group, but really they are ex-soldiers all any background group looking for payback.

Andanti: Morr cult, and I mean CULT: secretive Vampire hunters who consider themselves chosen by Morr to be his holy warriors. Membership can be passed on through either sons or daughters, and there is only one Andanti per generation (think Buffy or Castlevania) really scary fighters and know things other hunters dont.
