[X] Plan Murderbeast Distraction
-[X] Sabotage the defences...
-- [X] By unleashing whatever is under this floor upon the greenskins above it.
-[X] Slip out...
-- [X] By walking out while they're otherwise distracted. (note: ensure your plan includes an otherwise distraction)

Squigs don't have claws.

And it's not suicidal because of getting into close combat with them, not when we're insubstantial and they can't hurt us. It's suicidal because then we'd have an army of goblins above us and looking for us when we come out with light flickering about.
Ahh yes, they don't have front claws which would mean if they were squigs that had come out from underneath the floorboard what we would have seen was a gaping maw rather than claws. Squigs they aren't then.

Oh good. For a moment I had the irrational impression that the trap is a bit small.

They do, on their legs. But considering squig physiology and lack of upper extremities, it is still unlikely to be squigs./nitpicking, really
Ok, they don't have claws that they're going to be jamming through weak spaces in an attempt to reach something, like this thing was. They have neither the dexterity nor the mindset nor the motivation to do that with their legs.

Don't want to hang about but also don't want to leave these defences untouched.

Seems solid enough. We don't really need to 'sneak' out so much as just get out without being swarmed. That said I am slightly disappointed by the lack of pyromania.

[X] Plan Pain Train
-[X] Sabotage the defences...
-- [X] By using Substance of Shadow to walk silently and safely across the wooden floor and pulling the triggers on every bolt thrower you can.
-- [X] By unleashing whatever is under this floor upon the greenskins above it.
-- [X] By setting the wooden floors aflame.
-[X] Who needs stealth? There's an army coming up those stairs. Smash your way through the Goblins and have them chase you into the teeth of the approaching Throng.

Think I should add setting the wooden floor on fire? My main issue is that I am worried that the added light will make getting out harder. Not to mention it could potentially hinder the dwarves when they arrive while the monster has to be dealt with anyway.

If murderbeast sabotage goes well, there is no need to sabotage ballista position specifically; they are going to be overrun with murderbeasts that were supposed to guard them.

Setting the floor on fire is also... Well. Idk if we actually can? Setting fire to stuff that is not super dry and flammable is difficult.

It might be stone trolls under there. In which case setting the floor on fire would be especially effective.

Also we should think of an effective way to unleash the monsters. Using a cantrip to set the floorboards on fire should probably do it, although that depends on how flammable they are (given previous descriptions of the place with all the flammable mycelium and other crap around I'm thinking very).

Hmm looking at the picture I think just releasing the murderbeasts is enough, since they will be on the enemy artillery first.

Can we sneak out w/o sabotage to save time?

Per the vote text the sabotage part is optional and the Slip out one is mandatory.

My own 2 cents is that any overt act of sabotaging (like releasing whatever is down there, or setting fire to the floor) is gonna make the attempt to slip out that much harder. I think that trying to sabotage quietly is the better choice here.

My god, it is beautiful.

And actually helpful. Yeah, just, free the murderbeasts. Every other sabotage option is pointless unless gobbos did a dumb and stuck like, one murderbeast under that giant trap floor.

We don't know how long the gobbos have been purchasing Moulder beasties so they could very well be rat ogres. Alternatively, trolls are a strong contender too since they tend towards long arms and short legs, a good combo for a pit beast that can't jump out.

True, they'd be unlikely to be able to reposition fast enough to prevent the monsters from destroying them, assuming the monsters are going to be destroying them instead of rushing past and going for the goblins or not doing anything at all.

Right Clan Moulder monsters. Another strong possibility.

I'm not sure we can really rely on Rat Ogres or Trolls to go into a mad rage and kill everything.

There is an issue, though: are the gribblies actually likely to go after the goblins? I mean, if they're meant to be a trap for Skaven if need be, wouldn't they have to attack the moving smelly things that aren't goblins to be a good trap? If they attack anything, that's not likely to work.

Monsters are unlikely to specifically aim for artillery, but dorfs are right there and it is impossible to operate artillery when art.crews are fighting for their lives.

The above concern is pretty worrying tho. Goblins are not known for particularly reliable and loyal warbeasts, but that kind of stuff is still a possibility.

They'll probably go after the first thing they see.

The fact that the Goblins decided to put them in a pit is a good sign, it implies that the monsters aren't controlled enough to be useful in the chaos of a battle. Since if they had any control over them then they'd more likely just release them on the enemy the moment the gate is breached.

I'd bet on those monsters being rat-ogres. Slave trade with the skaven probably wasn't the first one, and Mathilde thinks that Crooked Moon been slave raiding for some time already. Setting them free is likely the most beneficial option for the army: at its best result it will
1. Disable the artillery
2. Distract and tie up a decent number of defenders, including their toughest monsters, right before the breach
3. Leave us unnoticed
If we can think of a decent plan to do that, I'd say do that. Otherwise, let's just leg it.

@BoneyM If we substance of shadow a heavy boulder, put it on the unstable floor and dismiss the spell - will it trigger the trap and release the monsters?

This is true but for example in the case of trolls while they're likely to kill and eat anything in immediate reach they're also not likely to go into a rampage that destroys everything nearby. It's also possible they're in the pit simply because they're more likely to be effective with an ambush attack rather than at the gate.

If they're rat ogres (quite likely) then yeah they'll probably go into a rampage.

They're pretty jumpy at anything walking above. Maybe the goblins are starving them?

@vsh

I got the impression the "trap" is all the gribblies smashing through when provoked. It may hold back one, but not all.

@BoneyM

Can we reach the firing mechanisms of the bolt throwers with Move from here?

Heavy boulders would be outside the limits of the spell, but if it was possible it would smash through the wood.

The way the 'trap' normally would work seems to be that if someone tried to walk on it while the gribbly underneath was trying to claw them, the floor is flimsy enough that nine times out of ten they'd end up in the pit and the tenth time the Goblins would still be alerted.

There's also the possibilities that simply being "released" won't allow the gribbles to get out. That would be effective in preventing the trap from being counterproductive.
