Crud, Gotrek got hit by a surprise set of Update 39-tier dice. No one can survive something like that. Which is terrible not just from a character stand point, but also when you factor in his knowledge.

So with that in mind:
[ ] Wait for some time while you recover things from the wreckage using "Guild Secrets"

Thems the breaks I guess, sometimes even we get unlucky. At this point we probably should push on we're closer to our goal than our start.

Oh no.

And once again, it isn't even enemy action, just our one greatest enemy: Multiple critfails (or rough equivalent) in a row.

Darn dude. Gotreks death is a tucking tragedy. But at least his wife lives. Maybe we can talk to her after this is over.

Not going to lie but am worried who is going to defeat thanquol now.

Okay, so Karag Dum is one week away, Kislev is 3 weeks away, and we only have 2 weeks of food. Honestly, I'm inclined to continue and see what the state of affairs is there, and see what can be done to rustle up more food in the meanwhile. We'll have everyone remaining fighting fit when we arrive at Dum, and can eat some mounts on the way back, assuming the Knights are willing. If they aren't, enough cavalry heads home to make up for the loss. Depending on the state of affairs at Dum, we might be able to get some food from the inhabitants - willingly or not.
It's morbid, but... traveling to Karag Dum will almost certainly see some attrition on the knights and mounts. It would reduce the food load.

I don't think Rite of Way would have even helped that much, this is just the kind of shit that happens on a nat 1. Sometimes you get sideswiped by a rockslide and die, that's just life I guess. It sucks but there's also not much to do but notch another one for coincidence being the deadliest motherfucker on the planet, pick up the pieces, and press on.
I don't think it would have helped at all. It's meant for dealing with dips, uneven terrain, and poor footing. Not whole sections of cliffs giving way.

The real issue isn't food supply per se, it's food storage. If we can only carry two weeks of food at a time, that means we have much less capacity to take advantage of surpluses and hedge against bad times.

However, we'll probably be getting more food from the Dolgan. Assuming we buy from them on the way up to Dum and buy from them again on the way back, we will have about two weeks of food at around this point on the return trip, too. So this isn't a complete logistical catastrophe: it just cuts our error margin down to the bone.

EDIT: From this point, it's three weeks to Kislev. So whatever we do, on the way back we need to get another week of food from somewhere.

Thanquol doesn't really need help being defeated. He does a perfectly good job of it all by himself.

- The Kriestov and Alexis are behind the rockslide area, and will need to negotiate the now narrower road if the Expedition presses on.
- The Alriksson, Magnus, and Volans are ahead of the rockslide area, and will need to negotiate the now narrower road if the Expedition turns back.
Question, is this intended as us being asked for 'give me ways to figure out how to do the crossing' here, or is it assumed we have a definite way to manage the crossing?

i.e. The Dwarfs will rig up ropes to the steam-wagons so that if the road crumbles under another one of them, the passing-steam-wagon can be pulled in by the steam-wagons that are already across. (With options/ability to quickly remove/unhook/whatever the rope, if it looks like the single road-crossing steam-wagon will pull both of the other steam-wagons down with it.)

Or something like "dig into the passage in order to widen the road."

Or even just "go scout out an alternative road crossing for the steam-wagons."

That is, is it assumed that the Dwarfs and humans will already be doing things and making it feasible to cross -- whether we pick to continue on or turn back -- or are we also being asked for ways-to-cross ideas?

I think we have to press on.

We have enough food to get to dum, we do not have enough food to get back. We need to go to Dum, suffer whatever attrittion that entails, and hopefully find Dum in a good enough place to resupply us.

Assuming the Dolgan hold through and we don't lose anymore wagons, I don't think the food situation is really affected by going forward or turning back. We'd be at 2 weeks of storage either way. Probably dependent on another supply run to Uzkulak.

It also means we'll need to buy from Uzkulak on the way back if we don't suffer enough attrition.
