For the sake of keeping myself honest because I know I can get too invested in debates and slip up here is a list of the Panoramia related stuff I should not be engaging with/talking about:
  1. Anything related to her competence
  2. Actual eligibility as Mathilde's romantic partner
  3. Comparing her to Mathilde in any way shape or form
If you see me debating the above please point it out so I can stop guys. I don't want to make this thread harder for @BoneyM to write in

Please be cool everyone, I care about these characters and what happens to them. Don't be the person that sweaps the chessboard cause they aren't winning.

So I get where people are coming from, but I'm super sympathetic to Boney here, in that I've seen a couple of favorite fics end because the threads got painful and the authors weren't having fun any more. (RIP A Cloudy Path) There's also a strand of performative dislike of romance that I see almost everywhere in geek culture; I attribute it largely to boys being conditioned to dislike girly things, but it doesn't have to be that way.

We can be positive.

I'll personally try to do better, because I know I've got my own stuff I get abrasive about.

So does anyone know if the people in norsca speak only one language or if it differs between tribes?
I think they use a mutually intelligible language with local dialects.

EDIT:
Here's the wiki page on it:
warhammerfantasy.fandom.com

Norsca

"Say what you will of us, call us heathens because we deny your weak pretender-god. Call us savages because we strike at you, but know this -- it is we who are closest to the Ruinous Powers. We, most favoured of the gods, shall burn your lands, revel in your suffering, and destroy you. Despair...
I don't know how accurate it is to canon though.

Your answer to things not breaking your way is elegant omakes. Which I universally approve of.

There's been justification that Panoramia fans try to conflate/equate her achievements with Mathilde's, which detractors say is unfair and untrue. While it might be wanking Panoramia a bit, it's generally in good fun and not meant to be taken too seriously when we do so with Mathilde's actions as well.

The point where detractors tend to gloss over is that oftentimes, debates revolving around Panoramia tend to tarnish or downplay or drag down her reputation, attacks on her personality or desires, and overall creates a tone of disappointment and wallowing in the thread.

For what it's worth, as a mostly thread lurker, I agree with Boney that I get discouraged from reading the discussion whenever these debates about Panoramia come up, it just becomes depressing to follow.

Sure, some people might think Panoramia is boring as a character, or dislike that she won the Romance vote, or don't want Romance at all. However, I often keep those types of opinions to myself as a lurker, because they're really not conducive to constructive discussion.

While I am in no way advocating for suppressing discussion, I wish there was more thought put when posting and what merits discussion vs what's simply a rant or 'spam content.'

Not that my opinion is important, but just wanted to put my own thoughts out.
A common problem with romance in quests is that people try to make the romance take over all aspects of the rest of the quest, shoehorning the romantic partner into more and more things, or worse, wanting to devote more and more time to supporting the romantic partners perceived IC objectives or to their benefit.
Gonna interject here, while this might be generally true, I don't believe most people intentionally devote effort into, "shoehorning a romantic partner" into all aspects of a quest, rather a byproduct of reader interest influencing the QM's priorities.

To specify a recent example of the Wizard Wrangler, the discussion got sidetracked into Who was best suited for the position, if Panoramia was even competent, etc.
However, the original sentiment was to create a continuity for, what certain people believed at the time, an important job while we were gone. I don't think most people minded who got the job so long as Mathilde handled it before leaving, otherwise it felt irresponsible.

Yes, the thread quickly latched onto the idea of Panoramia being appointed, as you say she's somewhat popular, but it's really disingenuous to immediately tar any mentions of her to be under the motivation of Romance or relationships. Why the heck were people jumping straight into accusations of Nepotism back then?

If anything, it's the dislike of Panoramia that constantly gets "shoehorned" into any discussion involving her, which is very obvious with how controversial opinions are always thrown about, constantly emphasizing how she isn't special and shouldn't get perceived special treatment, when that wasn't even the point.

EDIT: a word 'Perceived.'

I heard people worrying about supply earlier and I must admit I'm a little concerned about it myself. We are bringing a whole load of people with us which also a whole lot off extra stomachs that the expedition probably didn't plan for. I was wondering if we could arrange for gyrocarriers to resupply us in route. If nothing else fresh food is sure to help morale. Speaking of morale, whether or not we decide to bring some fieldwardens we should totally hire some halfling cooks.

@BoneyM a lot of the northmen/nomad languages have Dark Tongue influences in them. Does speaking or even just learning these languages risk Chaos corruption or miscasts for wizards like Mathilde?

Learning, no. Speaking might get attention you don't want or stir up local energies, but only when using the language to discuss arcane or divine topics, and it's very unlikely you'd learn the language without also learning what topics to be careful around.

So is this where I bring up the easy way to have an army march without its stomach, or should I save that until it actually becomes relevant and the thread might be more willing to go along with it?

Don't worry, I already broke the ice.
What if I told you there was a way to continue recruiting without making the supply situation worse? I admit this field isn't my specialty but I can refer you to someone who will be eager to tell you more...

Haven't been active here for a while: Has the romance vote happened already? From the last few pages, Panoramia has won?

If so, sad to see her snarky cute duckling position go, hopefully she'll work out as a wholesome partner. Not my favourite, but I've not been feeling any of the options much recently.

An easy way to solve the supply problem would be to have everyone subsist on skaven goo. We can even use it to recycle waste products, ensuring nothing is thrown out! We'll never have to worry about running out either, as long as some is kept safe it will keep multiplying!

This made me envision a joint College project to add the goo to human gut flora. I wonder if that'd work? Would the goo just eat the person from inside out?

If gyrocarriers were safe to fly wouldn't it have made more sense to use them for the expedition?

Supplies will probably have to be piled on top of the wagons; or just bring a herd of cattle for the first stage, then butcher them for the second stage of the Expedition.

Even if you could do it many of the reasons humans do not subsist on the kind of stuff the goo can make edible are cultural also I'm pretty sure that would count as inducing mutation... something of an issue in the Empire I've heard. :V

No, no, I'm sure the entire thread gets your meaning completely and we agree: Bringing the Dragon Altar along could improve foraging efforts on the march considerably. :V

In terms of supply, we might want to investigate whether a scaled up item of Fat of the Land built as a 'battle altar' scaled item is possible. If we can just use it to feed the Wolves and Demigryphs that would make a massive difference.

Good point. I assumed that the wagons where already at capacity but even if they are just bringing a herd of animals is probably the simpler solution. Still actually bringing a gyrocopter for the expedition would be awesome! Maybe we could outfit one of the wagons with a helipad - at the very least even a single gyrocopter would be an excellent scout.

I think not?

All that I recall happening is that she won 2 Social votes, as opposed to 1 for the others.

There are many more ways to complain about something than to like it, so you tend to see more disagreement than agreement, if only because all the "me too"s blend together. Combine with Cunningham's Law and, well. >_<

I'd like to consciously counterbalance this by saying: I think that Panoramia and Mathilde are incredibly cute together. I am thrilled that Mathilde is getting a chance to honestly and unambiguously enjoy herself, and in a way that follows through and builds on so much of her characterization and history. Like, Mathilde's romance novels are one of the single most distinguishing parts of her personality. Any quest protagonist could have solved her bureaucracy problems by just barely hashing out some paperwork. Only Mathilde could have hired a gifted bureaucrat by bribing her with trashy romance novels. Mathilde's interactions with Panoramia are starting to fill in that part of her character in all sorts of delightful ways.
