That's not really how it works, the ritual only works because it uses gold. It would have been designed with that purpose in mind, substituing a different metal at best leads to you merely getting molten metal all over your body part ruining it. At worst it leads to the ritual miscasting due to incorrect reagents and blowing you to hell. Literally.

if you have realms of sorcery go to page 171 and look at the ritual research process.
You just know there is a chaos sorcerer with an inquisitive mind and a large supply of apprentices/test subjects who is interested in that question or something similar.

[X] Empress 'Heidi', to be present for the birth of her child
[X] King Belegar, to try to get some idea of where he's at with his crisis of faith.
[X] Roswita, as she rides out the chaos of the influx of Battle Wizards.
[X] Algard, reporting the Skaven Civil War in person instead of in writing.
[X] Kasmir, to see if he rejoined the Council of Stirland.

The fief can wait another season, Battle Wizard Adventures with Roswita can't.

Well, yeah, the gilding ritual wouldn't work on other metals; it's the gilding ritual, the purely theoretical specifics of other metal-imbuing rituals would presumably be very different.

Sure but you'd be basically creating them almost from scratch.

You just know there is a chaos sorcerer with an inquisitive mind and a large supply of apprentices/test subjects who is interested in that question or something similar.

I actually don't think they'd bother. Something to keep in mind is that there probably aren't any chamon exclusive chaos sorcerers or if they are they extremely few in number. The Colleges of magic haven't existed all that long and the kind of high academic testing utilisation of the winds of magic didn't exist in humanity before. So it's not particularly like that there are many chaos sorcerers that have knowledge of chamon or that ritual in particular.

I'm not going to dig up the quote, but back when we were on The Trail to K8P there was some discussion of Max 'gilding' himself with gromril, and Boney's reply lent more towards "that would be rather difficult" than "that'd be completely impossible"

Nobody in this discussion has been taking the existence of bronze wizards in the chaos wastes as truth, it's just an interesting hypothetical to think and talk about.

Fair enough. It just bothers me that the scenes with shiny people we already know we like are coming at the expense of scenes with people who we might conceivably interact with more often during our actual lives. It makes Mathilde feel disconnected from the world.
I disagree - it makes Mathilde seem disconnected from her work/colleagues. The actual amount she engages in social activity (i.e. total social actions) remains unchanged regardless of who she spends time with, it's just a question of whether she's going out and meeting new people or sticking with the people she knows.

The fact that Mathilde hasn't taken a second look at say Dreng or Gunnars is just as plausibly a case of her not wanting to go make friends with them, and the idea that someone doesn't want to go make friends with as many people as possible doesn't mean she's not engaging with the world.

I get you're frustrated that Mathilde isn't being as extroverted as you want her to be, but leaning more towards introversion than extroversion is a valid character choice.

I have to ask are we visiting Empress 'Heidi' every single time?
Sure what she did is worthy and we got a story out of it but I don't really care about her after that not for all the power and influence even the future chosen one.
I want to give our future Ranaldite Emperor a We-silk onesie. With Helldrake scale panels.

And see if this kicks Mathilde's biological clock in the junk or if she's just like 'Well hello there, little... person' and then teleport-runs away.

And then combine it with a Hluodwica social action where she needs pie to process because her extensive collection of Drucchi pornography failed to prepare her for this

You know apart from all the tactical considerations, the conversation with the Skaven has made me wonder what other chaotic beings might make interesting conversation. I think some of the most fascinating would be the dragon ogers because of their enormous age. I mean look at this:

That is almost melancholy, certainly contemplative. A pity it's not really feasible to capture a dragon ogre for to converse with.
I'd say most Chaos creatures aside from Daemons and the more deranged chaos champions would be interesting to talk to. The Norscans, and probably the Kurgan and Hung, have cultures outside of Chaos, as do the Formori and the Chorfs.

[X] Roswita, as she rides out the chaos of the influx of Battle Wizards.

Our fief is ours specifically because even a literal century of neglect wouldn't actually change anything about the way they live their lives there. I'm sure they'll be fine. If you want to connect to Sitrland and Abelheim's legacy, lets maybe talk to his daughter and our theoretical liege lord.

I don't want to connect to Stirland and Abelheim's legacy, though. I want to be the creepy liege-lady who shows up once every few years and makes off with people's small children. We can't make off with small children if we aren't there to find them. :V

[X] Check in on your fief in Stirland.

I like Roswitta. I was one of those who wanted to double-up on visiting her last social turn. But I think the narrative's moved on from her, and we'd do better to check up on her later. Meanwhile, now's a good time to connect to Stirland the province rather than the Elector Count at the head of it.

I get what you mean, and certainly as a person I have no room to judge: I moved four hundred miles three years ago, proceeded to make like one new friend in northern VA, and mostly go back a lot and visit people I already knew.

But I am the most boring man in the world, not a quest protagonist, and the argument of sticking to people with whom she has longstanding relationships and comfort level doesn't really apply for e.g. Heidi, Algard, or Roswita, so I don't think the vote represents Mathilde being characterized as introverted vs. extroverted (and extroversion doesn't quite describe what I'm interested in, but that is a separate discussion).

...is it actually infeasible to capture a dragon ogre though?

For most yes, as far as I understand it most dragon ogres are either sleeping in the chaos wastes or raging army killers, but there is a population of sickly dragon ogres not far from us that we may be able to harry down, and if we can keep it from returning to the volcano eventually it should collapse into slumber.

From there, figuring out some way to move it would be admittedly difficult but certainly possible, especially for dwarves, proceed to lock it up in some underground room where the entrance has been filled back in with rock and steel leaving only a hallway which nothing bigger than a human could fit through, throw some chains around it, and some more chains, and some really, really big chains, throw out the chains when you remember the We are a thing, web it all up, and then go grab our little lightning journeymanling to give a poke. With lightning.

If it doesn't stir at all no matter how much we pump in then we can at least write a tiny paper FYI on it, should prob test that before building the mountain cage on second thought, but if it does stir we can start working on figuring out how much zappy poking is needed to get it to a point it can talk without being able to struggle against the restraints (another thing to write a paper on).

And bam! One Dragon Ogre conversation partner! So much paper material!

Now, I'm not saying this is wise, nor that it would actually be worth it other than for bragging rights, but we could probably pull it off.

I can't believe the lack of enthusiasm for a dragon skull firing chair! I can't think of anything more awesome!
