Comfy privacy is very important okay! plus burning your enemies from a tiny wooden stool is funnier

ah @BoneyM, I thought you liked my Romcon options.....

[X] It seems like the Undumgi and the Winter Wolves are setting up a festival/barn dance in one of the less used fields, lots of shiny knights and daring adventurers, it might be worth a look? I think I have some casual clothes somewhere...

[X] Anton has sent another invite to a social event, maybe I should actually go?... n-not l-like I'm expecting anything!.. but its a chance to meet new people, hear some stuff and if there is someone nice and able to get past the magic... a chance won't hurt... but where can I get a dress? (not an Anton romance action, he is the host of the party, not the target.)

[X] There is some event going on at the college. all the Magisters who haven't disappeared somewhere have gotten an invite, formal robes only. It would be a chance to get back in contact with old friends, make new ones and rub some elbows with the movers and shakers. plus you know, shared interests.

[X] Why not go on those dates your friends set up for you? it seemed awful when you were younger but actually, they know you, and the type you might get on with, the worst it can be is a bad night... as long as Wilhelmina doesn't try set us up with her boys.

[X] Mathilde first steps into the active dating scene while trying not to drown. (for those that what to see what Boney can come up with on their own.

FIGHT! my fellow lovers of Romance! get at least one on the list. (I actually like the Barn Dance one as it can give a sweeping vision of the K8Ps options.)

Say, there's something I've always wondered about the whole gilding process the Metal Mages do. Why do they use gold ? Wouldn't an actually useful metal be better, like steel ?

It's got to do with the metaphysical/narritive properties of gold, as opposed to the actual material properties.

It isn't really even gilding, it's more like infusing things with gold to make them better at their jobs in a conceptual way.

It's most likley a thematic connection with the wind, other types of gilding might be possible or even better produce better results but as Chamon is the Yellow Wind it probably has the strongest connection.

Shame we don't have a Gold Mage quest it would be an interesting possibility to explore.

It's the symbology, and the fact that gold is alchemically regarded as the king of Metals. It does not tarnish, it does not react to acids, it is completely chemically inert. Poison, acid, gas, all of it sloughs off and leaves gold just as it was.

This, and also the fact that if you want another metal, your going to have to create another ritual that involves pouring molten metal over your body/inside it and it bonding to you in a positive way that doesn't melt your flesh and bone like wax, and most people aren't willing to do so for very good reason.

Like, IIRC, it's theoretically possible to do it with other metals, but you'd need to have basically omniscience to tell beforehand what transmuting yourself into steel (maybe better at mundane fighting, at the cost of some magic oomph?) Or platinum (???) Or even gromril would do to you, and then there's the fact the same rituals would almost certainly not work the same(and you really need such a ritual to work the first time (hope you have a seer friend))

If you wanted to find Wizards covered in wacky metals you should probably go to the chaos wastes; I thiiink a bunch of chaos sorcerers use Chamon, and are rather more... Experimental.

[x] Yes. What better place to burn armies from than the skull of a dragon?

You know apart from all the tactical considerations, the conversation with the Skaven has made me wonder what other chaotic beings might make interesting conversation. I think some of the most fascinating would be the dragon ogers because of their enormous age. I mean look at this:

That is almost melancholy, certainly contemplative. A pity it's not really feasible to capture a dragon ogre for to converse with.

On second thought you probably shouldn't.
Oh yeah, it's a godawful idea, but if you were a gold completely driven by the question of "I wonder what the hell being imbued with copper does to someone?" then it's probably the only place in mallus with a chance of having this very specific type of Chamon user in it.

That's not really how it works, the ritual only works because it uses gold. It would have been designed with that purpose in mind, substituing a different metal at best leads to you merely getting molten metal all over your body part ruining it. At worst it leads to the ritual miscasting due to incorrect reagents and blowing you to hell. Literally.

if you have realms of sorcery go to page 171 and look at the ritual research process.

Well, yeah, the gilding ritual wouldn't work on other metals; it's the gilding ritual, the purely theoretical specifics of other metal-imbuing rituals would presumably be very different.
