Personally the next piece of equipment that I'd like to get would be a staff. I think, though I'm probably wrong, I remember some people mentioning we could get a +1 magic staff and it'd help us with our casting abilities. Plus it gives us more Gandalf points!

@BoneyM How do we swap out employees? For example if we don't want Johann around anymore and want the Amber Wizards instead.

Sorry if this has been answered before but if so I couldn't find it.

You know I've been wondering we have two Enchanting traits and we've barely made use of them has BoneyM actually said what we can do with Enchanting?

Tough choices, not really satisfied completely with any plan but its too late for a new one and this one seems closest.

[X] Plan Citadel Focus

Out of curiosity, why the citadel for the We?

We have been using it!

... To assassinate Greenskin sentries with the equivalent of a magical screwdriver. :V

It'd be nice, but nobody makes them right now.

I think to run interference on the stuff already down there, which is decidedly less friendly.

@Alratan you probably missies my edit after quoting me but what were the sources for you Necromany quotes? Your forgot to mention it :p

There's no one in the Grey College who can make one, so if Mathilde wants one she probably needs to make it herself.

As a totally random thought, that BoneyM might shoot down as cheating, which would be fair enough, there's plenty of precedent (from King Arthur) for sheaths to be magical in their own right. We've been told that the staff enchantment can be placed on anything that's as large as a staff. A greatsword was once mentioned as a possibility. High end dwarven runework does not leak magic when not in use, and does not interfere with Wind based enchantmented items, as we see with the Seed and the Belt.

You can see where I'm going with this... Can we make the sheath for our shiny new sword into a magical staff? Mathilde would always be wearing it on her back anyway, so wouldn't have to mess around with carrying something extra, and she'd always be touching it. Even if she had to reach a hand back over her shoulder, it would still work. A sheath can also be made of wood or something else with an affinity for shadow (horn, etc). I wonder how much the books to learn to make it would cost...

Please don't take this as spiteful, but I'm going to be aiming for two research/self-improvement things at least regardless of what plan wins this current vote, next turn. Probably studying our Coin and the Asp Blood since we'll have the tower by then for research, maybe also learning some spells or Greatsword training.

Since I've given up on fighting the current war, allow me to start planning for the next. I think a variant of plan Magical Mathilde would be pretty good

[Q] Plan The Next War
-[Q] Instil corporate policy: long-term financial good of the Empire.
-[Q] Current Task: Have Johann [Do something job relevant]
-[Q] Current Task: Have Maximilian [Do something job relevant]
-[Q] Teach the We Dwarven semaphore.
-[Q] [Do something job relevant]

Leaving this quite wide open since we don't know how the results of our actions are going to turn out. Johann is absolutely not getting out of doing work for yet another turn though, he can study any skaven-tech samples in his own time.

-[Q] Ask an acquaintance to train you in a skill: Gunnar, Greatsword

Considering we're going to be getting a legendary weapon in the next few turns, I want to at least do our best to be a match for it. Starting now is good because we'll be ready by the time Kragg's finished.

-[Q] Travel to the Grey College and attend lessons there. (1 College Favour per class; 100gc can be paid instead for non-magical classes)
--[Q] Spells of Grey Magic (teachers' choice; multiple spells)

We're quite close to getting that +1 Magic

-[Q] Have additional rooms excavated underneath your Penthouse: -50gc for 2 rooms.
-[Q] Investigate the constantly-dripping blood of the Wisdom's Asp. Current accumulation: 13 gallons.

Pretty sure the snekvoters would rise up in violent revolution if we don't have this on there somewhere.

-[Q] The Gambler: Spells of Grey Magic

This is probably the most controversial thing but I agree with @DarkLight140's reasoning for this as a means to improve rapidly. Increased Magic helps us with all of our magical endeavours and the snakejuice is going to be a long term project regardless. It would be best if we maximised our own capability early on.

Thoughts?

Well if we're using our new Rune Blade as a bastard sword maybe having it on our hip would work better? I'm pretty sure one of the qualities of a staff is grounding magic and it should be touching the ground for that to work, and if it's on our back that's a bit difficult to do. Of course if I got this wrong I apologize.

A staff isn't for grounding magic but amplifying it I think, I think. An Earthing Rod is grounding magic. I think Mathilde is short enough that she'd need the sword on her back.

First, our research is anything but basic.

Second, sterile room and ulgu room give bonuses to different types of actions.

Dwarf room is for discovering, Ulgu room is for creating.

Given we do literally everything, magic-wise, through Ulgu, a magic room seems like a wise investment.

Given the first magic action we are liable to take is research, dwarf room should naturally be built using the first tower room.

I feel like "clean room" and "Ulgu room" is sort of zooming below the level of abstraction I am comfortable with for the quest. I would much rather just have a generic "laboratory" rather than tracking to that level of detail.

Also if we're using King Arthur as inspiration I wouldn't be surprised if BoneyM made us go to the elves in order to get this made :p

'Room for being really cool' and 'Room for being really nerdy' should be at about our level of abstraction, though; they've got completely opposing focuses.

That's actually quite clever. We know that Uglu staffs can have internal weapons, since Mathilde's former Master has a hidden blade in there. This would be an extension of that principle.

The way I understood it, there's no one willing to do it as a full time job. There probably are a few who can make one (at the very least, all those who made their own staffs, even if they're not professionals). So chances are, the favor cost is simply greatly increased.

I do really like the sheath idea. Something to keep in mind.

It's more of a dwarf room and College room thing, when it comes down to it.

Depending on how thin the blade is, it quite possibly might be able to qualify both as a sheath and a staff. All it really needs to fit the staff aesthetic is to be long and thin enough that we can comfortably hold it aloft in one hand, after all.

I think we get bonus points if our staff looks like the arrow in the Ulgu symbol, too.

Making a staff sheath is a prime example of a gimmick. No reason to just have a plane and efficient staff strapped to our back along with the sword.

Well... I'm afrad this will flag the Once and Future Git to come beat us up and steal it.
