Although can you imagine all of this from the perspective of the civilians? Like previously see an elf would be something your grandfather bragged about happening that one time, now they are just popping up everywhere.

Honestly I would not be surprised if an elf started working as a bounty hunter and considers it fun and sporting.

How's you do that, when you've only got two arms and most pistols aren't repeaters?

More pistols. During the Storm of Chaos (Archaon's failed invasion of the Empire that was later retconned in favour of a successful and setting-ending one) there were Slayer Pirates who had the special rule 'festooned with pistols', that let them use the bonus from having pistols for every round of combat, not just the first one.

I am personally imagining an elf whose surprised that the locals are willing to pay them to hunt something they were planning on slaying for dinner anyways.
Honestly it might be a good idea to introduce the Elves to the idea of mercenary work, I mean they certainly have the skills and it would allow for a bunch to travel while getting paid to do things like kill beastmen.

Edit: Honestly that might be a fun action, Mathilde helping a bunch of elves set up a mercenary company. Maybe get them in contact with some trustworthy people who would make use of them to benefit the Empire.

If this Prince Eltharion has been repairing Waystones, I presume he'll have had to reconnect at least some of them to the Network. If he's here to help, there's a good chance we won't need to 'buy' the keyphrases from the Druchii after all.

Though the politics of admitting him to the Project might be tricky. Working with the Eonir is one thing, but the Asur are more problematic, especially for people like Thorek. If he's here because Teclis asked (and the Phoenix King is predictably angry), that might simplify things a bit, but still.

And in that case I wonder what will Eltharion think when, after being probably asked to come help the Colleges, he suddenly has to work with the whole array of diverse personalities we're arranged, from a Grey Lord to a dwarf Runelord to Baba Niedzwenka.

I'm a little saddened that we weren't fast enough to pull a "we did it thirty minutes ago"
There's a fair bit that you know and a great deal that you suspect that you haven't outright said, and you can tell that she can tell that those unspoken words are floating overhead, unseen but not unfelt. The lure of those secrets are a strong lure for any Grey Wizard worthy of the title, and you've no doubt that in proving herself worthy of those secrets, she'll uncover ones equal to or greater than them.
Love this paragraph. A callback to the family motto, Mathilde being a Grey wizard and then Mathilde being a dwarf. Chef's kiss.

I dunno how much Eike's gonna 'resonate' with Shyalla as a supporter in terms of having a good defence against chaos fuckery.

Being a supporter is an entierly valid path and I support it if that's how Eike wishes to approach her faith, but I'm still a bit worried.

If the oppertunity ever arises I'd like to ask Ranald to keep the occasional eye out for her like he would one of his priests, if we're ever owed a small favour from him again.
Its good enough for a lay worshipper. Only the priests need to adhere strictly to the strictures, a lay worshipper would try to keep to the spirit of it, but like...funding Shallyan soup kitchens and hospices isn't a bad way to keep up personal morale, and in general Grey Order duties would prefer that only specific people die most of the time.

The most salivating part of this update for me was the section about the changes in the Forestborn and Cityborn societies due to the opening of the borders. You've captured the thrill of the possibility to travel across the entire continent with new and strange lands and peoples within them, and I'm having a bit of a crisis at seeing anyone describe the setting of Warhammer Fantasy like that in-universe.

Let's hope the novelty doesn't fade too quickly, or gets replaced with a healthy fear of almost everything doing their best to kill you. Just imagine, elves can live for long enough to experience several Everchosen invasions.

Adventurers Guild eh? IF you were to add some Dwarves and humans as well you can go full DnD with it.

I do wonder how much the worry about Eike not going to have enough faith, is biased by the fact that we are carrying around Ranald's divine artifact and the knowledge he has kids and vastly overesitmating the normal levels of Faith going around.

I don't think it's anything to worry about at all myself. As is mentioned in the update there's loads of wizards in the colleges with the same or even less levels of devotion to her.

A deep discussion.
Seems Eike's relationship with her chosen deity is as non-standard as Mathilde's arrangement with Ranald.

…did she just apply the principles of investment banking to religion?

Reik Basin from Laurelorn POV
Seeing things through the eyes of foreign cultures remains one of the great strengths of this story.

it would be appreciated if you could make yourself present to handle the matter as soon as reasonably possible
Translation: You are ordered to get your arse back to Altdorf with all haste to Deal With This.

Prince Eltharion of Yvresse
Eltharion the Grim. Probably still with eyes if he is running Yvresse. Noted to do work on repairing Waystones. Made his name killing a Waaagh.
While not Teclis he is certainly one of the better options for a productive (rather than antagonistic) discussion.

Mathilde explicitly explaining that while she has a better than most people relationship with Ranald because she's interesting and did him a solid, but still doesn't religiously follow every tenet of the faith, would be out of character, but I hope Eike doesn't develop a guilt complex from comparing herself to "real" Shallya worshippers that she would then try to assuage by being an overly generous patron lavishing her more orthodox brethren.

Granted, Shallya's tenets are much more difficult to reconcile with being a Grey Wizard than Ranald's.

Just, entirely expected that the talk about worshipping the gods with Mathilde careened into discussing the nature of the gods themselves.

At least it didn't devolve into shipping their gods together, lol... there are probably people in-universe shipping gods together. I need to sit down.

I love the image of some elves staring at the owl hooting for hours until they realise its not actually intelligent.
Getting asked "Who?" repeatedly as they continually attempt to break down their own identity sufficiently to satisfy the owl until some peasant comes over to see what they're doing.
That bit probably wouldn't have made it into any stories, so even if no one said it happened, that wouldn't mean it didn't happen.

I don't see anything wrong with that, tbh, other than your framing of it as a guilt complex.

"I like what you do, but I can't do what you do myself, so I'm going to give you boatloads of money and disappear your enemies so you can do be more Shallyan," is a perfectly valid way of being faithful.

I'm not against her donating to charity, I'm against her doing so to alleviate a self-inflicted sense of inferiority.

There are far more sensible reasons.

edit: to explicitly clarify, I am perfectly fine with your example.

Interesting. So pending social actions are the Coronation, the Black Water Canal, and meeting Elf Batman.

This is a long, interesting and eventful turn.

Long Drong's Slayer Pirates had nothing to do with Storm of Chaos. They have been a Dogs of War unit since 5th edition.

I really liked the way the Eonir described parts of the Empire.

That this hasn't happened probably indicates that this disquiet is being cultivated, the pressure being contained and allowed to build. If done carelessly this would eventually lead to an explosion, but this sort of pressure can be a very useful motive force if properly harnessed. Eonir society seems like it is set to undergo several major changes in the coming decades, and in each of them the hand of the Queen seems to be at work, moulding the eventual shape of the society to come.
Girlboss, check. Gatekeep, check.

Tbh, there is only one tenet of Ranald Mathilde does not keep, the one about knives and swords, and ulgumind can argue that it is metaphorical.
