Ah yes. The mythical Elfcation. The one where we're never ready for it and will never go to because there's always that little bit more improvement we could do before we take it. That Elfcation :V

If we really want to do the Elfcation, I think we should agree on a point (or a set of conditions) where we'll be 'ready', and when we get there, go to Nagarythe as soon as we can.
For example, as soon as:
-We have the swording style finished
-We have at least one bound Apparition
-We have made enough progress in the Project to brief the Emperor about it

Or something like that.

I think the sword style and maybe one more battle magic spell are perfectly reasonable things to want to train before going into an active war zone. Of course, we did just help slay a vampire without them, so they clearly aren't necessary per se, but it's probably better to slightly overprepare than to underprepare. On the other hand, preparing any more than that seems deeply unnecessary.

The vampire was surprised, surrounded and engaged by ironbreakers, a priest, a witchhunter and 2 lady-magisters and still managed to almost take the priest out.

Not saying we aren't good but the dice can be cruel...

Edit: though yes, personally I think the sword style and a bw spell would probably be enough...

In regards to the topic of pursuing perfection, while reading Age of Sigmar books, I came across a paragraph that surprisingly resonated with me. Surprisingly because it comes from Grungni of all people:
From Page 21 of Age of Sigmar Soul Wars: Forbidden Power. Not entirely one to one to our situation, but sometimes, perfection can be the enemy of progress.
Invictunite?
That's at barely a smidge better than Sigmarite.

Where's the creativity gone? FFS, it's like they're not even trying.

Sure, but that situation was something that we set up and worked toward. And Mathilde is pretty darn good at setting up her enemies to be in that kind of situation in general. She'd probably survive an elven war zone fine...but that being 'probably' rather than 'definitely' is exactly why I think erring on the side of overprepared and finishing the sword style at a minimum, along with possibly grabbing additional magical firepower, are good ideas.

Going beyond that, however, starts to get deep into the weeds of paranoia, where if we really need to be more badass than that to survive, we should probably just not go at all.

I do think the average vampire is a good bit more dangerous than the average Dark Elf. Or even the average un-average Dark Elf.

And it's not like we'd be alone, the Shadow Warriors are literally professionals at this.

We are currently head of a project that utilizes our Learning and Diplomacy. Elfcation is a three AP trip which will train our Intrigue and Martial and will likely last for RL months. It's a pretty large distraction from what we're doing at the moment - what we've only just begun actually doing, since the Waystone project has been engaged in actual research for all of a single turn.

If there was some way to make our trip to Nagarythe actually help us with what we're doing at the moment then I could see us finding the time for it, but it's hard to see that happening. I guess maybe we'll desperately need House Miriel's or House Orodreth's help with something and the thing we'll use to earn their cooperation is some sort of fetch quest to their ancestral home, but I doubt it.

Let's not pretend Warhammer Fantasy has that much creativity in comparison. I'll take Invictunite any day over Jafar the Sultan.

Praag is a letter away from Prague. Bretonnia is the epitome of anti-creativity. Tilea is practically an anagram of Italy. There are a thousand mongolian rip offs in the form of monstrous races. Literal lizards are walking around with Mesoamerican iconogrophy with names like Tiq'taq'to and Tichi Huichi.

Eh, we are supposed to have fun in this quest too, and elfcation sounds like great fun. 3ap for personal projects isn't out of the line for our spending habits.

The elfcation was an option we could choose after the Karak Dum expedition, just like the WP, bodyguard and the others. It implies a big level of commitment (both in-character and for Boney), close to said projects. If we wanted to do it, we should have done so at that moment. The thread voted to do the WP, I don't see why we should do something we didn't vote for.

It also spanned 30 updates and 4 irl months, we have barely begin the WP and are only 7 updates in. Putting it on a hiatus to gallivant around would leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Personally I quite like it, is it on the nose? Of course, but it makes imagination easy. If i want to explain Kislev i go "it's fantasy Russia with ice magic and bear cavalry." Bretonnia is "imagine Arthur actually had a country." And the empire is "imagine the HRE but their obsessed with guns and faith."

Like, I'm not saying their super creative but their easy to remember and make good figurines. Who doesn't want a charging knight, or big ole cannon. Or a dude riding a bear into battle.

I wouldn't do it now, but just saying "oh we can't do it because commitment" is also a bit much. This update alone we spent 3 AP on swording, Powerstones and learning to not fuck up Eike. We commit to many things and the waystone project will take literally years.

Again i wouldn't do it next update or even the one after that but saying categorically no is just bad...

I misunderstood you, I thought you were advocating to do it in the near future. I'd like to do it one day too, but after we achieve significant results.

Eh, fair enough. The soonest i see us doing is in about 3 updates? Mostly because having one uninterupted year of teaching Eike is probably necessary before going to elf-land.
And i wouldn't bind it to achieving something, the dice are the dice and if don't manage it then we don't.

That's fine and it falls under personal preference, but I was merely pointing out how derivative and downright lazy WHF's naming and general creative power was like.

GW was soliciting free work from fans of their magazines in the guise of "competition" where the "reward" was literally exposure back in the 1999's. That should tell you how much creativity they had back then.

I agree with you on the other points, but I'm actually quite fond of the joke names for Lizardmen.

Edit: I put my finger on why it bothers me. It's bad fake-latin :V
They broke the suffix off at the wrong place, and they added a fucking "N" out of nowhere. Hell, it's worse than "Sigmarite" now.
Sigmarite at least matches the rest of the low effort names on the periodic table, Like Einsteinium, Lawrencium, Curium and Bohrium.

Eh, that shit happens now too and has happened before and will happen again. Skyrim got rereleased about 9 times and that wasn't because it's such a good game. World of warships is doing regular contests for ship camos and the winner gets at most the ship in question for free.
I wouldn't call it unimaginative but opportunistic. Which isn't better but that's capitalism for you...

On another topic, I found out that, rightfully so, I can't use Aerosol spray in an indoor environment. Especially not a hospital, which is where I'm staying at. I would appreciate tips on how to base models without aerosol spray. I bought the rattler spray cans in hopes of using them, so the only basing paint I have is Corax White, which I hoped to use to cover up mistakes, not basing the model from scratch.

... Maybe the hospital has a park or something to do it out of? Or a terrace? Probably the easiest way to do it without buying things...

There's an outdoor dining area but I'm not that much of a jerk that I'd come in with my spray and get residue all over the place where people eat. The other option is to go out on the London streets and spray. I'm not fond of that.

That's fair enough i guess. Though maybe you could use the outdoor dining area if you put enough newspaper on the table, might be worth asking staff...

Personally I'd rather actually manage to do something truly cool with the Project before forgetting it for 4 irl months and 30 updates. I care more about achieving our current objectives than doing 30 updates of something totally unrelated. We took so much time preparing for the WP that I want actual return on investment for it.

The thing is that this project will take years. And the cool thing would be nothing happening. The waystone project is inherently unspectacular except when it is failing or being actively sabotaged...

The cool thing is us making a new waystone, or finding an alternative. I'm not saying we should wait to build a whole new network, but at least having improved the situation.
