I do hope the Zhufbar dwarves aren't too soured by the lack of dwarven treasure. You'd hope that a complete lack of casualties along with a nominal mission success would be enough.

What we did: Adventure with Mathilde Weber

What we expected: ??? Treasure? Glory? A lost work of the Ancestors? ??? It's Mathilde "Tripped over a lost dwarf hold" Weber, anything could happen!

What we got: Slaying a vampire and his ghoul army with no casualties, ties to a new and growing ally in Sylvania, and peace of mind that Drakenhof won't be a threat in the near future.

I think we're being influenced by Mathilde's internal commentary. Boney has said that it's a success by any measure, just not one to be expected from Mathilde's reputation. Mathilde herself has also gotten caught up in it, because she's so used to ridiculous overachieving that she's worrying it might not be enough for the Dwarves.

Teclis is possibly the only Elf of Ulthuan that everyone involved would be at least willing to hear out if he were to Kramer in the door. He fought alongside High King Alriksson at the Battle at the Gates of Kislev, and like Queen Marrisith is of the Line of Aenarion, making them cousins.
Not to mention, because of his illnesses, he can be quite grumpy and down to earth for a high elf.
Thorek might even like him.

Silcet becomes he newest member of webmat.
Ulthuan is puzzled at not being able to find the high loremaster.

Depends on interpretation. Some Teclis interpretations are pretty unpleasant, although I'd probably assume Boney would be going for a more heroic version of Teclis than the "End justifies the means" version from End Times. I also hear the trilogy novel about him and Tyrion don't exactly paint him in the best light, but that's often inflated.

I think the 'best' interpretation is the trilogy one: not a great person in thought, beliefs and private, a good person in action and public, A hero in legend and reputation.

I like the view that Teclis the symbol is far greater then Teclis the man.

Sure, Zhufbar might feel a little disappointed now. But in twelve turns or so Thogrim will use the Great Pumps of Morgrim to flood Averland and stop the Tomb King army that Mathilde annoyed by stealing the secrets of their network, and then Zhufbar will suddenly find that the favour of the local God of floods is a good thing to have.

Drakenhof might not have been quite the slam dunk Mathilde thinks the dwarfs expected, but she can at least take solace in the fact that at least the expedition didn't run into any too-pale slayers with blood red mohawks and long fangs screaming about Nagash being weak.

The big problem with that is that nobody involved in the Laurelorn mess actually wants to see Nordland prosper. The Eonir came within a hairs breath of entering a war of extinction with Nordland, and if Nordland collapses then Middenland will benefit greatly. Propping up Nordland through trade only benefits Nordland, and many will question why we are helping them, rather than those who were affected by Nordland's unjust actions.

Strictly speaking it would be Kislev ore that just has to pass by the Nordland coast and the village of Leihafen to get downriver. If they can't get it from Middenland and they don't want to trade with Marienburg then Erengrad is the next best option. The Nordlanders are still going to get something from that trade, even if they don't get port fees or the like the ships will at least be buying supplies, but not as much.

The tricky part of ore trade with Kislev is that the EIC is not technically needed as a middle man.

Currently yes, as Mathy can host talks, but in the future it is in both Kislevs and the elves interest to do direct trade if it because stable.

Long term, it could be tricky to keep the contract.

That we are becoming a bit of a 'black library' if we keep up this pace.

How about the gnawing guilt that we might be prioritising the needs of the Karaz Ankor over the needs of the Empire?
I don't think Mathilde actually feels any sort of guilt over that. I think she values the Colleges directly and humanity in the abstract, and supporting the Karaz Ankor is of general benefit to humanity.

Ans it's not like she views dwarves or humans from outside the Empire as being any less people.

also, what's the bets on finally having a group of misfits that somehow get the job done knocking on Mathy's door without an appointment so that she can send them on a deadly fech quest? (Maybe even a elven one!)

Mathy is already a wizard Lord and she has yet to have her first adventure party patron experience. Most wizards get at least one of these before they even finish their journeying!

Mathy most get self conscious at the lady and Lord party's when people start bragging!

Adhoc vote count started by mathymancer on Aug 25, 2022 at 8:02 AM, finished with 403 posts and 147 votes.

Over 30 hours into the vote and the top four places seem secure: Eike, Karak Vlag and Tochter have leads so large that I can't see any of them losing. Kasmir also seems to be in a fairly secure fourth place, with a 13 vote lead over the next option. There could still be a turnaround but with the voting slowing down I think it's safe to say that after four in-quest years and two real life years we're finally going to pay Kasmir a visit.

In the battle for fifth place it seems we are down to three options: Wissenland and Karaz-a-Karak, which are tied, and Sylvania which trails behind them by four votes. The Gold College, which is nine votes behind Sylvania, has practically dropped out of the running - it would need 13 votes to match Wissenland and Karaz-a-Karak, which is as big a difference as the one between those two options and Kasmir. Since Kasmir can't lose (source: I don't want it to happen) the Gold College also can't win, QED.
