My favored options here are the spiders (cause spiders), Collegiate (+ to magical research, which is most of what we're doing right now), and Verena (good contact to cultivate, and they're most in line with our own thoughts on the matter).

Cython is one of my favorite characters in this quest, but I don't think they're terrible suited for this role, overall.

Its actually pretty interesting, because this very update has a section about how the Imperial Dragon deals with having a hoard that's only nominally their's, with the major difference that Cython is far more intelligent and a Hysh dragon besides.

Meme votes aside, I'm thinking Verenans. We want the library to be used, guys--no one wants to visit a library staffed by giant spiders.

Makes sense. Honestly, Mathilde technically doesn't have to do all eight at once, it'll just waste the winds she doesn't put in a power stone for. It's not like the Colleges who don't get one are gonna complain as long as she's clear how she did it and all that.

I really want Mathilde to recruit Orphans vote!

Can you imgaine how life changing this is for those poor kids stranded in poorly protected orphanages with low access to funding and emotional care with only Shallya priestesses helping when they can.

Growing up in there to be exploited and abused until they leave for even more harsher world with no money and connections with troubles and Chaos all too common for those poor orphans with dark fates in their future!
Give them this and they would learn everything and protect the library with all they got.

Help those poor kids, give them bed and board with a real future and they will be loyal to her forever!
Hell they would name their kids after her!

Could we have an option where Mathilde makes them as a flex in front of the College leadership?

Sort of like the Waagh lecture but with a practical demonstration (testing 1 beforehand in private so we know what to expect).
 
It's a bit circuitous, but we might be able to trade vitae to runesmiths, and they purchase powerstones on our behalf. Or we could commission dwarven magical items that we could then sell to the Colleges.

Probably not worth the hassle, though.

... Yeah no we absolutely have to wheel a cart into Algard's office only to dramatically lift the tarp off and say "GOOD NEWS".

Then we can bring them in for further creation as our supply of Vitae allows.

(Though I'd like to keep some for AV enchantment, still.)
 
If we pick Cython, then I think that some variant of 'Locals' would be good for the scribe option - and if we pick Cython, we're gonna need scribes 'cuz no one is going to be allowed to take any of the books out.... Well, Mathilde might be allowed tempoary soverinty; but that'd be it. Nope:

Ah. Reasonable, and bloody cool, but not in keeping with my desires for the libary. :'(

I do love the idea of spooder librarians; but the effort cost is off-putting.

(I think we'd have an obligation to move the Liber Mortis back to Mathilde's personal library before making such an offer, though that's nbd imo)

It's going to be a process of several days to let them gradually accrete, Mathilde isn't going to just Chaos Dunk eight power stones into a kiddie pool full of Vitae.

That's a size the Colleges already know how to make use of, and has significance to them because the originals were gifted by Teclis and are considered irreplaceable. Anything bigger will take more Vitae to make and any uses for them would need to be made from scratch.

For the powerstones I really want to have a scene where we show up with the ulgu one at algards and he has to run and check if the original is still there.

So I'm fully for getting some more favours and making the things ourselves. Just imagine the "favours" the colleges will give us for gifting one.
 
So if we do borrow the power stones instead of using college favour, I wonder what the conversation between the various power stone providers will be: Mathilde has just promised to make orbs of sourcery and is confident enough to go for all eight simultaneously.

On the other hand, if we use college favour I wonder what their conversation will be after we buy all 8 powerstones, since we obviously can't use them all even if it is intended as a gift for Web-Mat.
 
I know its tempting to pick a dragon for the novelty, clout and because we all love them, but I encourage people to think it through - there are some serious drawbacks to having Cython consider the books as his hoard. Can we even lend out books in that circumstance? Would we need to give concessions for that to be the case? A Dragon is great for security, but also terrible, in the sense that they could really wreck a lot if a fight breaks out.

Spiders are much less problematic, but also a lot of work, and will maybe scare people away from our library?

I really like the orphan idea - we'd be getting loyal acolytes and doing them a favour at the same time. Win win.

We could hand them to the elves for whatever reason, they can use all winds.

I admit I am supportive of the idea Mathilde continues to act a bit like a cat and just randomly pops up and donates things of great value to the colleges.
