There are eight weeks until the next murder. You are currently planning what to do for the next three weeks.
Remember that we have time, plundering could be worth it, but not a good look for our priorities when we're still in the dark.
[ ] Research: Murder Rituals
Eight quiet murders in one family forty years. Eight brutal murders in one family in forty months. This smacks of some sort of ritual. Go digging through every resource you can find for what this might be about, and what might happen if it goes uninterrupted.
Is Only Gork 2: Electric Boogaloo in the cards for the Dice Gods' whims? (Is it possible through improbable rolls and certain choices where we can rob divine energies again for Ranald with out getting on the The Four's radar?)
[ ] Approach the hunting lodge Unfahigers
They've been left to dry by Alric and the head of the family. If you offer help, they're all but certain to take it.
[ ] Interrogate the hunting lodge Unfahigers
Break in, interrogate, Mindhole, leave. They have no protection against the likes of you, and may know something useful.
While they'll be worth more information if they associate us with their survival I think we should value the scenario of complete incognito.

"I don't see anything either. So I'd guess Alric isn't protecting the most likely next victim, simply the most influential one."
I don't know Warhammer so my perspective on Alric is pretty biased against him due to how he's been mentioned in the quest.

How competent should we be viewing Alric? On the current scenario he's already won.

We know:
1. Alric is holding on to the best piece.
2. Only 3 more Unfafnir's have to die
3. The hunting lodge Unfnaffers are undefended

The current scenario should play out like this:
1. Alric guards his golden goose
2. 3 more Unfrangir die and the ritual completes
3. Alric does what he set out to do. He went to Talabheim, protected the bloodline, the murders stopped.

That assumes the ritual plays out, if Alric stops it then all the more glory to him.

This also assumes that Alberich's priority is the ritual. Since there's no pattern like "Down from the highest in the hierarchy" or something like that.

All Alric needs to do is to act as a deterrent, and make the Alberich's realize that his victims are handed to him on a silver platter through the hunting lodge.

[ ] Bring in someone else: specify who
You have all sorts of allies, contacts, and favours that you might call upon.

One of the candidates we interviewed for the EIC ("The Stirlander") was responsible for cleaning up after Alberich in Stirland:

"If you can, tell me of your most recent experience." You can't not ask.

She considers that. "The last Haupt-Anderssen sought help where he oughtn't've, though he botched it in the end. His help let them get their claws in deep. Been working towards dismantling it. Got enough information that having to run was worth it, and soon enough there'll be pyres aplenty in Thalheim."

Can we bring her in using College Favour?

It does look like Alric is waiting for the ritual to finish, then stop it at the last moment. It's a lot of glory.

Alric needs more then that to ride the glory back to the light college, having the murders end without any direct involvement of his would only curry favor with the mainline unfrangir who he protected, nobody of the Lights would be impressed with this result, especially since it means whatever nefarious agent that did this had theocratically achieved their goal.

[ ] Plunder Krieglitz Manor
It's unstaffed and unguarded, protected only by locked doors, boarded windows, and a sinister reputation. Who knows what riches the Unfähigers squirreled away during their time in power

I've a question about the vow of poverty. For the sake of argument let's say this action would break it. Would getting Egrimm, or other non Gray Magister, to plunder the Manor while Mathilde looks very hard in another direction also break the Vow ?

Alternatively, it's not a revenge ritual by a demon but a counter-ritual to pull the lost Haupt-Anderssen out of the grip of Chaos. That would be a large enough of a feather in his cap, fits with revenge against Roswita and his credit-stealing MO.
No Light Wizard is stupid enough to try a ritual to pull someone from the grip of chaos after that someone had bartered of his own will with Chaos.

Nobody will be impressed with the lost Haupt-Anderssen return, pitchforks and bonefires will be the appropriate response.

If you embark on this course of action, you'd be operating under the aegis of 'it doesn't break the vow if you don't get caught' anyway, and Mathilde will be a lot better at not getting caught than most non-Grey Magisters.

[X] Plan Saving the leftovers
-[X] Approach the hunting lodge Unfahigers
-[X] Plunder Krieglitz Manor
-[X] Research: Underworld Turbulence

So Here's the plan. First step is making sure the ritual isn't completed since that's bad news if it's real. As such making sure the hunting lodge Unfahigers aren't killed to fuel some kind of ritual.
Then we check out the manor thoroughly and make sure it's nice and clean.
Then we check any movements in the underworld to find the perpetrator.

[ ] Renegotiate with Mira
If you're going to have to interfere with Alric anyway, you might as well see what Mira is willing to offer for you to do so, and clear the way to bring in your own Light Wizards.
Huh. If we renegotiate with Mira, then the implied lie we made to Regimand is no longer a lie, and since we're already likely to interfere anyway, we might as well get some more favor from her and maybe get her directly involved in the Waystone project as well. To me, that sounds like a great option, since it allows us to bring the Lights in without having to navigate the awkwardness of Regimand figuring out something's up.

It wouldn't just be further Waystone assistance on the table, you could also use this to plump out the library or commission an enchantment or anything else the Light Order would be able to provide. And Mathilde would have a stronger bargaining position than she did previously for the same assistance because now she can point to an exact cause célèbre that Alric might be on the verge of claiming credit for.

I don't know, it feels kinda weird to go try and negotiate for Mathilde's help in something she's already kinda decided she should be interfering with anyways. That might just be me though.

[X] Plan Redshirt v1

The focus here is getting more out of Mira since we're already interfering, opening the way for our Lights to join without awkwardness, and researching Alberich's form and the Manor to get ideas as to what sort of person we're looking at and what his limitations are.

[X] Plan Payment and Study
-[X] Renegotiate with Mira

Reasoning:
  1. Well we are going to do it anyway, why not get paid more, as Boney says from a stronger negotiating position?
  2. Leverage our advanced mage sight to investigate
  3. Leverage our learning to discover more about the opposition
Edit: @Codex's plan is close enough that I am happy with it so approval voting

Oh I get why. I'm just usually the sort of person who looks at it from the other direction. Why look to get paid if we're going to do it anyways? But I recognize that that's a personal thing.

If Mira was a friend or something I would be hesitant to ask for that sort of payment, but she is not so I do not see any reason not to do it. Or to put it another way I think she would do the same in our place.

Mira asked for payment when Mathilde wanted to get help in saving the world with Waystones, and Mathilde is pretty bitter over that (look at her internal commentary). I think it'd be funny since turnabout's fair play.

If we bring in the Stirlander, could we try to set her up with Regimand?
Are you talking romance? If so:
Regimand never showed any interest in romance, and the closest he ever came to showing a desire for a family of his own was taking on Mathilde as an apprentice. As far as she knows, he's either not wired for it or has sacrificed it for the Order. The Greys in general tend towards cynicism on the subject.
Regimand is either Aromantic or he's chosen to give up romance. I don't think he's interested.
