Arcane Fulcra are the remnants of the original geomantic web and indicate that there was something predating the Waystone network.

I see. I assume there must be theories about whether they are natural or not, given how advanced they were compared to modern magical understanding and at the same time how modified and degraded they are.

In any case unless a skink shows up out of the blue claiming his toad god had a dream out us we probably are not going to get too far in the study of that. :V

I'm not sure anyone has pointed it out? But Arburg was one of the people who challenged Dragomas, where Kurtis said that she was a Battle Wizard promoted a few years before.

If Pan's mom was a Magister, then she's not Arburg.

"The religious group has a bunch of beliefs. This is in no way relevant, don't listen to them, we need to get rid of them anyway."

Very convincing argument against his own alleged position there. As in, I'm pretty sure he wants us to take on someone with a religious slant to them, while also maintaining plausible deniability whatever political game he seems to be playing.

Remember how the religious stuff meshing with the Teclisean traditions is such a mess that Pan didn't want to go gradiuate until she is absolutely sure where she stands on it? I figure he is walking a lot of tightropes we can't see.

Here is my read on what he is trying to borderline reverse psychology us into doing:
- take on someone with a lot of druidic background, note how his own summery of the people he offers straight up contradict his earlier statement of all that old stuff being far to lost
- take care of the problem in the forest, because we are well equipped for it and he needs the time to do internal wrangling, maybe go pick up some hedgewise
- make us aware how broken down the lore available is, we need to dig thrice as hard to get a quarter the results

Thats just my read of course.

I said last vote I want Jade ritualists, and here is a Jad ritualist.

That said:

This seems the way to the most unique lore.

As is, I don't have enough insight to choose between them, so I'll just take the direction the MP is pushing us into.

[X] Stirland, to see for yourself how the war against Sylvania is progressing.

STAY. DOWN!

[X] Pay a visit to your fief, to see if anything has changed. It probably hasn't.

I will die on that hill.

[x] Middenland, to see how the Ulricans are going with their new Eonir coreligionists.

Relevant.

Mathildes SO deserves more than a cameo.

Mathilde is grumpy that no one volunteers anything for her project, but honestly, people have done a lot so their price is stuff that Mathilde wants to be doing anyway.

Thorek, who we know best, also did the best job of it, and so when he told us what he wanted, the (or at least my) reaction was "That sounds good, now what do you want?". The thread wants to shake up the dwarfen status quo, and Thorek is here to do it. We didn't even have to spend any AP, since the paper was already in the works!

Mira, who's met Mathilde twice, does a worse job of it, though she still mostly gets it right. We were already investigating anyway. The... stronger options of denounce and sabotage I will put down as enthusiasm and Mathilde's reputation on what happens to her bosses (this part is a joke). And it's not like Mathilde won't do that stuff if Alric is actually up to something bad, we just don't think he's corrupt. I think Mira overestimated just how much of a political creature Mathilde actually is.

Finally, Paranoth still manages the "Please do what you want to do anyways", just with something we didn't want to do bad enough to act on independently. But still, pretty good. Though I imagine, "please be nosy" is a winning pitch for pretty much any Grey. None of them offered BÖÖK though, which shows they really don't know her all that well (if Mira had offered to let her copy Light books freely for her pile, Mathilde might already be going after Alric.)

The whole thing gives me the mental image of tiny (tinier, six year old) Mathilde who decided to play a grown up game, and she's just not having fun, so all her aunts and uncles set their tasks as going off to skulk in dusty corners of the house and get really dirty, like she actually wants to. (This isn't accurate to Mathilde, or the sentiment of the thread. But it is funny)

I wonder if Mathilde is going to get sort of a "Straight Shooter" reputation. Someone who can handle politics but stays away as much as possible, who keeps to the spirit of the deal and who will get a situation fixed. Which is... well no individual part of that is really wrong, but is also missing so much. I'm mostly amused by the idea of a Grey Wizard being the Straight Shooter fixer for the Colleges.

From an OOC perspective, I also really appreciate that Boney is using this as a way to let the thread do what it wants to anyway. That part isn't all that subtle, though I really like getting payed to be nosy. But it's also a neat way to change up the mode of play/engagement (there's an Extra Credit on it, but I couldn't find it), which is important to keep things feeling samey, and also because the playerbase is not all united in what they actually want to see. These choices allow Boney to mix in intrigue style stuff (which has always been lower than you'd think for a Grey Wizard in a quest called Divided Loyalties), but, in case of Mira, there was also the choice to mix in additional political stuff with the denoucing and sabotaging, so it also serves to signal to Boney what the thread wants to see (especially based on the thread chatter). I could point to Paranoth not offering a "political" choice, but frankly I think that's because we haven't stuck our noses deep enough into the Jade's internal divide, unlike with all the actions we took with Ergrimm, who's tied pretty closely into it.

A tangent: I wonder what "plotlines" the other colleges have? We've seen a good deal about Alric, the Jade's split over the Earth Mother has come up a few times. I think those are pretty firm.
As for the others:
  • For the Golds, I would guess it's related to the Skaven tech we shipped off. Hopefully, Johann's Master ties into it, because Gehenna is just the best.
  • For the Amethyst, maybe Hexensohn, both what he was up to and Elspeth's takeover. It seems mostly finished, but we haven't poked at it much.
  • No clue about the Ambers. My best guess would be that they want to make the best cake ever for Dragomas' birthday, and are scouring the land for the best ingredients there are.
  • The celestials have that ominous warning from Maria Stossel, but I'm not sure a Grey can visit the MP of the Celestials without an ominous warning. A better guess might be that they're trying to rectify the lack of weather azyr, which ties into Hubert's plotline and we saw it from the Celestial who joined the expedition.
  • I think we know less about the Brights than anyone else, so no idea.
  • Finally, the Greys. Personally, I choose to believe that Mathilde is the Grey plotline, because she's so visible. What her plotline actually is probably depends on whether you're playing the Dwarf, Wizard or Imperial Spymaster quest.

The answer to your question lies in the text, which I recommend people read over because it's a very concise summary:

Mathilde goes over the Belthani and Scythians here, but of course she doesn't believe that Albion is a real thing and doesn't know much about the Old Ones or the Geomantic Web.
Question codex, do we know how old the lady is? Or at least the bretonnian cult of the lady? Like where there always humans in bretonnia and with them the lady or did they come from somewhere else, and with them the lady? I'm asking because I know the ice mages get weaker the farther away they are from Kislev, so they have a real connection with the land and might know shit we don't. But I don't know how good the ladies peoe would know.

Aren't their Hedgewise in the Forest of Shadows? If we play this right, we could end up using this to get on the goodside of both the Ice Witches and the Hedgewise. I think Pannoth is suggesting that with his whole "Grey's can find friends there that we can't" thing.

I think we should do it. The chance to recruit—or at least build favour with—three groups at once shouldn't be sniffed at.
Yeah, this convinced me. Good opportunity to bust out the Protector.

Vote for Panoramia's dad, because Panoramia's dad!!!

Ranald's daughters continue to be interesting:
[X] Cython, to talk obliquely of what it means for a God to have offspring.

Voting for all the followups until they win:
[X] The Amber College, to check in on the salamanders.
[X] The Gold College, to see what's become of their research into Skaven technology.
[X] Follow up on your donation of the Skaven organ-vat, and see what has been made of it.
[X] Pay a visit to your fief, to see if anything has changed. It probably hasn't.
I've given it thought and I don't think I can get enough out of the premise to justify the screentime without it being a challenge for me to write.
Ah, darn, that's a shame. Maybe there will be another time we can introduce Pan and Anton.

The first mention of the lady as the lady is the legends of Giles the uniter.

Which was roughly 1500 years ago during the founding of Bretonnia. However there is in universe speculation about older earth mother religious figures in the region.

The cult is at least as old as 978 IC when Gilles de Breton became the first king of Bretonia under the auspices of the Lady of the Lake

The Lady first appears in a vision to Gilles le Briton, Thierulf of Lyonesse and Landuin of Mousillon in 976 IC, the Cult starts once the Great Battles are over two years later and Bretonnia is formed.

@BurnNote, I will point out that what you describe as "what Mathilde likes doing" can also be described as "her literal job description". They're not so much tailoring their requests to Mathilde as asking a Grey Wizard to do stereotypical Grey Wizard things they can't easily replicate.

Page 9 of Tome of Salvation, Hieronymus of Nuln, an Imperial Scholar says the following:

"In those early times, many scholars believe each of the tribes had their own patron deity. They cite the confirmed associations between the Teutognens and Ulric, the Ropsmenn and Tor, the Ungols and Dazh, and the Taleutens and Taal. From these they extrapolate that other tribes must have had similar patrons. The most common associations are Manann with the Endals, Rhya with the Bretonni, Söll with the Merogens, Ahalt with the Menogoths, Morr with the Ostagoths, and Lupus with the Cherusens. However, such propositions are guesswork at best."

This leads me to believe that there is some speculation that the Bretonni were the ones who first worshipped Rhya before she was joined with the Cult of Taal, perhaps after the worship of Ishnernos was split between Ulric, Taal and Rhya or some other scenario. Rhya is often tied to concepts of the Earth Mother, and she is sometimes even called that ouright. It depends on the local's customs.

One of the most respected Perpetuals of the Jade Order, only partly due to his rather intimidating Lady Magister wife. He is the secular expert on the history of the Cult of the Mother.

This one makes me laugh.

Thinking about what kind of reputation Mathilde has it might be less 'straight shooter' and more hermit who prefers the company of elves and dwarfs to most Imperial humans.

Magister Patriarchs/Matriarchs: I have a problem that needs a grey wizard, but I have no grey wizards.
Mathilde: I am a grey wizard, and I need you to do something for me.
MP/M: OH BOY.

Thank you very much. I'm guessing the waystones were erected quite a bit earlier? Probably it's roughly the same time span for Kislev and the widow? So none of those would have firsthand knowledge mmmhh, but humans also erected waystones so they actually might... Hmmm.

I'm guessing Kislev and Bretonnia would only have older historical texts and what their magic tells them directly. Also ice witches are closely tied to the land so they might know stuff from there and the lady is one of the more... Interference happy deities so the damsels might got some dreams or holy guidance for direct knowledge. Hmmm

[X] No

I'm inclined to say "No". If Paranoth says they don't have it, then I guess they don't have it. A deception is fine, but we could be introducing active misinformation under the guise of old religion. Sometimes the truth isn't what you'd like.
