???????????I still don't trust your understanding of Bongo at all, frankly.
And namechecking "hacking or burgalery or armed robbery or military invasion or good 'ol fashioned scams," isn't really resolving my point either. None of those is like a psy shield!
You're going to have to explain that one. How, exactly, is a psy shield different for the purposes of knowing about it and its details being useful to the attacker, and us as the defender benefiting from them not having those details?
Like, are we just going to ignore that war is in the list of things you're saying this situation isn't like? In Warhammer 40k?
What?
And, well, sure, I'll give you that secret weapons are more relevant in fiction than reality. But, we are in such a work of fiction, and that's still just the very very far end of the scale and not the part you should put most of your focus on.
And more importantly - for the purpose of hitting a target with its pants down, the bar isn't "bongo is the only person who knows". As dragonparadox notes information doesn't disseminate throughout all of chaos instantly, and what, exactly, the capability is is not something an opponent is guaranteed to figure out if all they've got is "my attack didn't stop them before they killed me" in the first place. Most of what makes Bongo's knowledge actionable came from him having decades of constant contact with our shielding, which is why preventing shields from being captured matters.
No, the bar is merely that actionable information doesn't get to the target before your sucker punch does.
Though yes, that first battle is the one that's guaranteed to have us at a particularly unfair advantage. Thereafter, we'll at least occasionally run into folks who expect we can do what they witnessed. Intelligence in the sense of espionage isn't a binary.
Once again, ERA. Works in one direction, if it "works" in the other everyone in the vehicle dies. Not that "non-existant" is the bar that needs to be met for the purpose of teleporting and homebrew scrapcode and ship-scale-amped pyromancy etc working through our shields anyways...As far as armor goes, yeah it's easy to make it stronger in one direction but you are never going to get armor that is strong in one direction and non-existent in the other.
