It must be a Tuesday, I never got the hang of Tuesdays Part 1 - Liar's Dice and Magical Conversations
Tuesday Morning, April 14th 1992

Usagi and Naru sit on the opposite sides of the small fold-out card table that the two girls brought up to Usagi's room. There, between the two are a pair of cups and a total of ten dice. Usagi does her best to keep her eyes on her soon to be opponent, but even as she sits there, again and again her lips quirk, nearly pulling into a smile before she schools her appearance again.

Naru is a little less focused, her eyes sliding off of Usagi to the cat sitting on the windowsill. "You know..." The girl starts to say, "I had heard that you were able to talk from Usagi, but hearing it myself is... something else."

The cat seems to preen for a moment, before lazing down across the wood. "And I have to admit that you have a far more level head than I head expected from Usagi's best friend." Luna says, "I was expecting someone more..."

Usagi's eye twitches, even as she tries to ignore the words being said.

"Spontaneous?" Naru responds, finishing the space cat's sentence.

"I was going to be louder, but that works too." Luna agrees. "So you understand the rules of Liar's dice as I have explained them, yes?"

"Mostly, but there is one thing I was wondering." Naru starts, "What if, to say, Usagi makes a bet, and I think she is exactly right." Luna's head tilts, not exactly sure where the girl is going with her statement. In response, Naru nearly breaks out giggling, only barely managing to keep her cool by looking away from the cat. "Say that... I don't know. I bet four 2s, and Usagi thinks that this is correct."

"Then she would simply not call out the lie." Luna responds.

"No, no..." Naru starts to say, repeatedly snapping her fingers as she tries to figure out the right words for what she is wanting to say. "Double or nothing." She says breathlessly, and Luna's eyes light up.

"Oh." Luna mutters. "Of course, the entire point of Liar's dice is to lie, so calling out a truth is already going to be a bit harder, but more than that, it is also far more likely to be wrong than it is right. A double or nothing play. Oh... but it wouldn't be a call, that is already a thing. And correct is just lame."

"You're saying that the idea is that the person is spot on, right?" Usagi asks, speaking up for the first time in the entire conversation. "So why not just call it Spot On."

"That works." Luna says, as both Naru and Luna nod, nearly perfectly in sync.

"So!" Naru says as she adjusts how she is sitting, gathering up her five dice and dropping them into her cup. "I know that you want to do this, and I'm glad to help, but you also agreed that you'd help me with my thing after this. So... Two rounds?" The girl suggests.

Usagi nods, as she gathers up her own dice. Each girl shakes their own cup of dice - once, twice, three times, before slapping the cup upside down, hiding the dice from view.

There is a moment of silence, as the two players stare at each other. Both daring the other to be the first to look at their own dice. Whichever one looks first will be the first to make a bid.

Finally, after nearly ninety seconds of silence, Naru folds. Bending down and glancing at her own dice. Usagi can't see a thing, but now that her opponent has checked, the girl is free to check her own dice.

A 1, two 2s, a 4, and a 5.

"Alright. For my bid - Two 6s." Naru says, with a bold smirk on her cheeks.

Once the two hands of Liar's Dice are done, the two girls and the cat head out.

"So Naru..." Usagi asks as she follows after her best friend, "What is this thing that you are needing help with anyways?"

"...Usagi..." Luna sighs from her spot on the girl's shoulder, "You didn't ask before agreeing?"

"I trust Naru!" Usagi replies hotly, getting a nod of thanks from the other girl as she turns to walk backward.

"And if this is something boring that you don't want to do?" Luna argues, before turning to Naru. "Not to say that you would do something like that, but one should always know what they are getting into before agreeing to anything."

"S'fair." Naru agrees, and the smile on her lips makes it clear that the girl doesn't hold any ill will to the space cat. "So the other day, I found this really weird shop. Like... The kind of place that you would find in a manga." Naru starts to explain.

"A little old dusty antique shop. The owner was this absolutely tiny little old man with a beard longer than he is tall." Naru held a hand out, about half way up her torso to give an indication of how tall the man was. "He said that everything in the store was for sale, and that anything and everything was eight hundred and twenty-three yen. The exact amount I was carrying in my pockets."

"That sounds..." Usagi nervously starts to say...

"Extremely sketchy." Luna agrees.

"Yeah!" Naru agrees, before scratching at the back of her neck. "Except he knew my name. I don't know how..." The girl seems a little more nervous now that she is saying this out loud. "But... yeah. Extremely sketchy." She sighs... "On the other hand, there was a book there. A Beginner's Primer on Magic. I..." Naru's words are now clearly stumbling over themselves. "That monster... The one that took the place of my mom. A... Youma? I think you called it Usagi?"

"Yeah." Usagi agrees. "But Naru if you're wanting to fight, I can-can't."

"NO!" Naru emphatically disagrees, waving her hands wildly in front of her. "No, no no no no. No. I... No." She shudders. "Usagi, I can't begin to explain how amazing it is that you can fight those things. But I... I can't. No. I just... That wasn't the only one. There was the monster that caused Umino to act all strange. There are more of these monsters." Slowly, Naru's eyes trail down to her hand. "If I... If I can learn how to use magic... Then I might be able to protect myself. Just a little. To stay away from the monster until you can come save me." The girl slowly gives a stuttering breath, before she looks away from the two. "Every now and again, when Mom catches me off guard I nearly panic and try to hit her. Thinking that it is that monster again." Then... in the softest, tiniest voice that Usagi has ever heard Naru speak... "I don't want to be afraid anymore." But then, her voice starts to regain its strength. "And maybe... Maybe learning magic might be able to help me feel safer. Even if I'm not... not really."

Luna sighs, before leaping over from Usagi's shoulder onto Naru's. The cat softly nuzzles against Naru's cheek, before shaking her head. "I hate to say it like this, Naru. But more than likely... That was a scam. When I first woke up, I tried to find any magic. Enchantments, mystical beasts, spellcasters of any kind... But I didn't find a thing. Unfortunately, it really seems like all Magic has been lost from the Earth."

Naru breaths in hard through her nose, nodding in short quick nods. "I know. But if... If it is real. Then I want someone who actually knows about magic there to make sure that it's not like... Evil and going to eat me, or turn me into clothes or something."

"So where is this shop?" Usagi asks as the two start to pick up their pace.

"It's about an hour by train, up in Shinjuku." Naru explains.

"Well..." Luna starts, "We are still a good... Ten, fifteen minutes from the train station." The cat says, and the girls nod in agreement. "So then... My memories are still spotty, but... But ever since you asked me about the Silver Millennium last week, I have been getting a few more bits and pieces of my memories back. So I'll try and answer any questions that you might have about Magic. At least while we're on the way to the train." The cat nods, "Sound like a good idea to you two?"

[ ][Question] A question about magic
[ ][Question] A second question about magic

[x][Question] Is there a way to detect when someone else is using Magic?

[X][Liar] Spot On!

[X][Question] Where does magic come from?
[X][Question] Are there other magical objects like my brooch that can help one use magic?

So we could ask what magic is exactly?
Or maybe what is the simplest way to train magic?

You know, would it be possible for Usagi to create a magical focus for Naru?
It sounds like she wants stealth magic, or maybe teleportation. Though as our Diplomacy Advisor, magic to get people to listen as you talk would be good too, stall out the bad guys and such.

Kinda want to go with Spot on after Naru clarified it, but 3 2s could be a good bluff.

[X][Question] What exactly is magic?

I think we should ask what magic is at this point. It is the most basic of questions, and it can help both Usagi and Naru.
From her earlier lesson, Usagi already knows she can create her own spells, so she should know there can be a spell to detect magic.

Handy to know if we want to sneak around the place, or if Naru wants to learn magic.

Well, they could honestly have some overlap in canon, since at least in the anime there tended to be a learn about the existence of it, then deal with it, which means that multiple might have been running concurrently...

Fair point, I remember the TV episodes seemed to have a new gimmick every episode with the general having one scheme per episode, I think there was some sort of justification that because of Minako kicking ass in Britain the DK couldn;t sent out to many yoma.

SPOT ON is a very attractive choice, but I feel like we are being baited into calling it a spot on so I would rather attempt to make a bid.
Edited my vote to this.

So someone over on the Discord I have vaguely set up for the quest asked if Usagi has spent her weekly allowance yet.

Which was a question that confused me at first, but given that you are about to go to a magic shoppe, it might be worth noting.

So Naru currently has 5 Funds worth of cash to spend, and Usagi as 4 at the moment, giving a total of 9 funds to spend at the shop when you get there.
