Well, if we blow him off, we won't have much to tell anyway.

We the readers know that she's been "seeded" by the jungle goddess that killed the First Emperor. Ling Qi won't unless she starts digging, and staying on good term with Liling's best friend is a good first step.

Also, Yrs clearly has a lot of things to tell about Ji Rong, and not getting to know him more during the first quest always struck me as a bit of a shame. Here's an occasion to make up for it a little, so let's take it.

I don't want to underestimate the value of informing Renxiang. Our boss lady has her own experiences, and trauma, with an out-of-context powerful lady digging into her head, her body, her soul. And Renxiang knows what it's like to have a bloodthirsty presence permanently sitting in the back of her head, while also relying on that presence for strength. It could be really interesting for Renxiang to be able to consciously compare her Shenhua/Liming baggage with whatever circumstances Sun Liling finds herself in. Renxiang having strategic information independent of Shenhua is also something we should value in general.

So, there's some maybe real benefit to sharing upwards. At the same time, I like us having private know-how too. Cultivating an external contact at the price of silence seems like a good deal to me, and well within our purview as a Hidden Scholar of the Moon. Which we definitely are.

Deliberately withholding information from Renxiang seems like a useful stressor for figuring out our damaged truth/sincerity insight, too.

The major point of concern with agreeing to keep things secret is how a LQ who desires to keep her word will interact with a inquisitive Shenhua during the group report for the mission.

That being said this is a hurdle when interacting with Shenhua that will come up eventually, and is best done in the 3rd realm. This will likely require some preparation work with some Hidden Moon spirits, and likely something Shenhua would find absolutely hilarious as it involves LQ gambling that Shenhua will value efficiency of LQ not being crippled/killed over whatever she is holding in trust.

We know that Suzhen's husband (and therefore the Bai and probably Shenhua) know about her condition so not telling anyone shouldn't cause any trouble. And yeah Renxiang should trust us to make deals and having an in with Ji Rong in the future can only be helpful.

I´d imagine that every promise of secrecy comes with an understanding of what is achievable, if an eighth realm wants to know, literally, what we are thinking, they will know.
But seeing as this is literally our job we should be good. Hell, this should even reflect well on Renxiang, proving once more her good judgement in choosing a worthy retainer.

Ling Qi wanted to get a better understanding of this faction so this accomplishes that. Also Renxiang will understand needing to be light on the details.

Allowing Ji Rong to better understand someone he cares about so that he can better help her in a way that's mutually beneficial with minimal intervention on our part is absolutely Communication/10.

This is everything I could've hoped for out of this action, tbh.

One method I've thought of to be able to keep knowledge hidden from Shenhua is for Ling Qi to steal the knowledge. At most Shenhua would be able to reveal that something was stolen.
