Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

  • Bastion is fine as it is. It's not an active defense tech like SNR, but an environmental damage/penalties negator. Completely different applications.

The problem I see with Bastion is that we are already really durable against stuff that isn't hostile to us. Going off what we've seen with Shenhua (who is incapable of restraining herself and thus the cultivator equivalent of what we'd want to protect ourselves against) a Cyan can handle her attention poorly. Scaled down that means that this would help us handle Prism+ inimical spirits.

I'm not expecting to encounter Prism+ spirits any time soon. Of course we did unexpectedly encounter Grydja, so maybe its a good idea? Still seems really specific

I don't think that comparison is fair.
For starter, Shenhua being "uncapable of restraining herself" is hardly a good point of reference in order to calculate what level of environmental hazard we can withstand.
Ling Qi knelt before her as a fresh green and didn't suffer phisical damage, but that's just because Shenhua didn't manifest her domain like how she did with Renxiang.
We are NOT surviving any harmful Prism-level effects, Bastion or not. Even an active Cyan would be a high order, due to the use of Shen.

Second, the whole point of MoSS is that spirits don't need to be actively malevolent or hostile to inflict some serious damage.
Bastion's purpose is to lessen that harm on us and our companions long enough to explore hazardous areas and establish contact with the responsible spirit.

Not just to endure the damage, but to reduce it all together. This is going to be highly useful when dealing with peak green and cyan spirits. That's the kind of threat we are expected to handle.
Look at what happened with Black Sky Yearning. Even leaving aside the dream trap, her mere presence affected the weather and made advancing difficult, even for a group of well-equipped greens. After we won our bet with her, that hardship was still present, tough lessened.

Heck, that's actually in Bastion's text. It negates the traits of higher spirits.
Raising the Bastion: In the harsh south, under the gaze of Bleak Skies yearning, you received a taste of the casual cruelty which spirits unbound and uncaring of man may display. In the lessons of the Bastion's Melody, you find the lessons needed to mitigate their harm, and even bring understanding of their doings to spirits most inhuman. Alters the Bastion's Melody Art, giving a chance to negate damaging environmental traits of higher spirits. Advances the Community and Protection projects by one step. Unlocks one project. (0/5)

Bastion would allow us to more safely deal with those kind of spirits as well as the underground toxic environment.
That's why it's a good fit for the Cathedral plus Diviner combo.

Turn 17 Preliminary Vote
Turn 17. For this month you will have 2 Professional and 2 Personal actions. A personal Action may be swapped for a Professional action. You may select three cultivation projects. There will be a four hour voting moratorium to allow discussion. Available actions have been altered in order to keep the focus on the summit in the final lead up. Exploration actions will return after the Summit.

Previous Turn Addendum: I realized thanks to some discussion that I had forgotten to give Ling Qi a evel up in her Spirit Seeker Trait following the encounter with the Lake Spirit. This will be added shortly.

Anyway, here's your choices for the month.

Locked Retainer Action:

  • Concordance of Steel: There is no trust yet, between the delegations of north and south, barely even mutual recognition, and what there is hinges only on fragile individual words. But cooperation is necessary if the talks you hope for are to amount to anything. The workers and craftsmen, the designers and defenses have begun to speak, shortly and at arms length. But that is not enough. General Xia, the White Plume, the soldiers of the Emerald Seas must be spoken to, along with the patrolmen of the White Sky, and an arrangement must be made for everyone's peace of mind. (Action will effect the mood of negotiations and modify success chances of future negotiations. Characters: Xia Lin, Xia Ren, Jin Tae, Wang Lian, Emissary Dzintara)

Professional Actions: (2 available)

  • Paying Respects: The Argent Peak Sect has been your home for two years now, and though you are growing apart from it, you still feel that connection. To it's disciples, to its Elders, to the caves and the vents and the trials. Spend some time showing your gratitude for lessons and connections [Maintains current relations with the Argent Sect Peak Sect on departure. 40% Chance to boost reputation with Argent Peak Sect by 1, and ???. Characters: Sima Jiao & Xin, Liao Zhu, various. +1 to Isolation and Power projects undertaken)
  • Imperial Menagerie: The representatives of the other provinces which have chosen to show themselves may not be a direct part of the talks, but they must be seen too and satisfied all the same. Luckily, what might be the most recalcitrant out of province faction is being headed by your best friend. That doesn't mean you can ignore the rest though. Bai and Zheng and Xuan, three of the most powerful families in the empire have their scions present, and you need to make sure everyone is on the same page, especially in case of unplanned contact. (Heads off potential negative events for the summit, keeps observers informed on your strategy. Characters, Xuan Shi, Bai Meizhen, Xiao Fen, Xia Anxi, Zheng Fu, Jin Tae, Old Crow.)
  • Badlands and Bogs: You have made your first contact with and identified the primary parties involved in the Foreign side of negotiations, but one luncheon and conversation, no matter how productive, is not enough preparation. With Xuan Shi, seek out the combined Emissary of the Seared Lands confederation and seek knowledge. They spoke of trade and peoples beyond even them. The Xuan have more knowledge of what lays beyond the Empire than any other. Use it as a jumping off point to discover their interests and where they see themselves with the White Sky. (Discover interests of eastern White Sky faction, gain insights into White Sky and Polar Nation. Characters: Xuan Shi, Emissary Rostam and Inzhu)
  • A Land Dark and Cruel: The westerly faction of the White Sky seem the least friendly toward you. Perhaps that can be changed, but even if not, their interests and the point where their unfriendliness may do harm must be discovered, if only to work around them. Although you do have your suspicions, it would be best not to assume. Their mention of a 'flower demon' is also concerning, given the actions of Sun Shao and the Western Territories in the Wall. ( Discover Interests of the western White Sky faction, gain insights into White Sky and Polar Nation. Characters Sixiang, Emissary Dzintara, Old Crow.)
  • The Wide White Sky: The center of your negotiations, and the keystone of these talks. The central White Sky faction must be treated with as well. Though you spent the most time with these folk, you can't say that you are truly familiar, or understand the breadth of their interests yet. But you have heard that more foreigners have arrived. Mostly due to the presence of tribesman on winged horses, which caused quite a stir. It seems that Jaromila has arrived at last. (Discover Interests of central White Sky faction, gain insights into White Sky and Polar Nation. Characters, Emissary Jaromila, Ilsur, Emissary Khadne.)

Personal Actions (2 Available)

  • Eye of Grudges: You have received your offer of tutelage from an apprentice of Cai Shenhua herself, the enigmatic Shu Yue. A lesson on seeing and understanding. A lesson on what lies behind others eyes. A chance, perhaps to advance your stagnating perception arts, if the lesson takes. (Opens the cultivation of a Successor Art to Silent Songseekers regard. +1 XP to Want, Isolation and Power. +30 XP to spiritual cultivation.)
  • House of Ling: While you are immensely busy with the dealing of nations, you must also begin thinking of your own house. Perhaps not right this instant, but soon. You have begun to accrue offers and invitations from your contacts, and soon you will expected to host guests and conduct talks yourself. There is also the matter of your staff, their training and perhaps even cultivation. (Increases efficacy of your information network. Prerequisite for further growth in the provinces lower nobility. Characters: Ling Household, Ling Qingge and Biyu.)
  • Golden Roads: You've had little time to engage directly with Hanyi's growing career recently, and you would like to amend that. Nor have you spoken much with Bao Qian, which is also a shame.Although he's not directly involved with the summit, perhaps you can play him for some insights on negotiation and his own clans practices as you speak about the Next steps for Hanyi and Zhengui's efforts to help. (Sets up the next part of expanding Hanyi's concerts and Zhengui's product sales. More insight into the Bao clan and Bao Qian. Characters: Bao Qian, Hanyi, Zhengui.)

  • Community IV (2/8): Family is only a knot of strong bonds, it is the small connections between people which build community. There was no line between love and obligation, not if both were true.
  • Motion IV (1/8): Motion is life and joy, unobstructed by the chains of destiny. Wings beating in tandem may soar through the most terrible storm.
  • Isolation IV (3/8): As starvation is privation of the body, isolation is privation of the soul. Thus is born suffering. But, one has only two hands with which to reach out. Yet, others have two hands as well. The cold, sad street cannot be unmade by the efforts of one.
  • Expression III (4/5): Art, music is the expression of ideas, the sharing of concepts with other people and beings. It can express the truth of your soul, it can express desires, it can express simple observations and so much more. You have only begun to explore the truth of art.
  • Freedom III (0/5): Freedom grows only when shared, one alone is only ever as free as the strength in their arm allows
  • Mystery III (1/5): Hunger is privation of the body, loneliness privation of the heart, Ignorance privation of the mind. In privation, seek answers.
  • Power III(3/5): Power is absolute, but comes in different forms. What is strength in one context may be weakness in another.
  • Want III (4/5): Want is the soul reaching out, the impetus of connection, the abrogation of Isolation, the seed of Community and Home.
  • Creation II (2/3): Abundance begets creation. Creation denies Isolation.
  • Endings II (1/3): Endings are constant, but not absolute. Change, creation, necessitates Ending.
  • Home II (0/3): Home is the people you gather, and call your own, a binding wrought of ones own will.
  • Persistence II (1/3): The world is in flux and things last only due to the exertion of will.
  • Truth II (0/3): To call all truths subjective can only bring ruin.
  • Causality I (1/2): Action precedes reaction. Time flows forward, ever forward.
  • Cycles I (0/2): The seasons turn, but the past year is not repeated.
  • Void 1 (0/2): To emptiness, sacrifice, from emptiness, potential
  • Courage (0/1)-?
  • Protection (0/1)-?
  • Growth(0/1)-?
  • Chaos- Assimilated by Motion

We are NOT surviving any harmful Prism-level effects, Bastion or not. Even an active Cyan would be a high order, due to the use of Shen.

Cyans aren't going to be accidentally using Shen. And we've survived harmful Prism level effects, on account of them missing us because we weren't the target.

There's a huge difference between someone trying to kill us and someone hurting us through their mere presence. Shenhua is absolutely a good example of the latter and she demonstrates just how large a discrepancy needs to exist before that becomes a serious threat.

We have not spent much time with Hanyi beyond what was essentially a couple of mechanical art posts. Golden Roads is an essential focus on our core principle, Family.

So, do we push Paying Respects off till next turn for Hidden Scribe or do the Dreaming Tribulation this turn?

The Cultivation projects list doesn't seem to be updated (or at least not fully) which makes planning hard. Like, We Are But Ripples is still on the list and we completed that.

I have some ideas, but can't say whether they're good or bad without an accurate list of possibilities.

Having a better social perception art seems really important right now, so I want Eye of Grudges.

... Doing Eye of Grudges at the same time as Paying Respects seems like a way to learn some interesting things, actually.

Man, a lot of the professional actions seem really high priority. We might need to sacrifice a personal action. Cultivation is pretty swamped too.

Quick priority sketching

I don't think we can afford to push off Paying Respects, in case of a curveball during T18 - be it the war heating up, or Sun interference, or something else. Splitting it and the hidden moon action is fine - more Xin screentime on T18 or something is fine by me. Eye of Grudges seems very useful given the flavour text of 'seeing and understanding' the motivations of others during this summit - it's the only personal action I really care about at this juncture, so we can go 3 Professional/1 Personal.

Paying Respects/Imperial Menagerie/One of the Polar Nation options, alongside Eye of Grudges

Cultivation-wise, now that the moon projects can't be taken together... Dreaming Songstress/Something FFS/Something Else. Only thing I'm really married to is the dreaming tribulation this turn, which I don't think we can put off.

I'm much with Xeph here, both on Professional/Personal and the Cultivation routes.

Professional action-wise I feel like The Wide White Sky is a no-brainer, given that they're the main party we're going to be negotiating with.
At first glance...exchange one personal action for professional, and go for The Wide White Sky, Paying Respects and Imperial Menagerie.
Use the one personal action for Eye of Grudges.

Still thinking about the cultivation options.

Using personal slots for professional actions here is a mistake. Workaholicing on currying political favour while neglecting our friends and family does not match our Way. Yes, we need to prepare for the summit, but we can't lose track of what is most important.

Okay, so these are my plans:

Firstly, Plan Witness Nightmare. If we're doing our Dreaming Tribulation, I want to plan the whole turn around it.

[] Plan Witness Nightmare
-[] [Personal] Eyes of Grudges
-[] [Professional] Paying Respects
-[] [Professional] Badlands and Bogs
-[] [Professional] Imperial Menagerie
-[] [Cultivation] Dreaming Songstress (8/8)
-[] [Cultivation] Frozen Desire (8/4)
-[] [Cultivation] Raising the Bastion (6/5, Greater Argent Vent + Argent Domain)

This plan is appealing because it allows LQ to advance both her desire (Why do people form connections and communities?) and power (Dominance) concepts at the same time she faces her tribulation; it would be ideal. It also Advances Expression, which is perfect imo.

Next, my main plan, Plan Leaving the Nest.

[] Plan Leaving the Nest
-[] [Personal] Eyes of Grudges
-[] [Professional] Paying Respects
-[] [Professional] Imperial Menagerie
-[] [Professional] The Wide White Sky
-[] [Cultivation] Raising the Bastion (6/5, Greater Argent Vent + Argent Domain)
-[] [Cultivation] Dreaming Songstress (8/8)
-[] [Cultivation] Ice and Dust (8/4)

[] Plan Roots and Wings
-[] [Personal] House of Ling
-[] [Professional] Paying Respects
-[] [Professional] Imperial Menagerie
-[] [Professional] The Wide White Sky
-[] [Cultivation] Raising the Bastion (6/5, Greater Argent Vent + Argent Domain)
-[] [Cultivation] Dreaming Songstress (8/8)
-[] [Cultivation] Ice and Dust (8/4)

And lastly, Plan Old Home/New Home for the summit.

[] Plan Old Home/New Home
-[] [Personal] House of Ling
-[] [Professional] Paying Respects
-[] [Professional] The Wide White Sky
-[] [Professional] Imperial Menagerie
-[] [Cultivation] Raising the Bastion (5/5, Greater Argent Vent)
-[] [Cultivation] Dreaming Songstress (8/8)
-[] [Cultivation] Xiangmen, Fortress of Tsu Pt. 2 (10/5, Saline Grotto + Argent Domain)

Fortress of Tsu is about how Tsu brought the people of the Emerald Seas together at Xiangmen to face a greater threat. Meditations on these stories and lessons when our clique, Little Xiangmen, is trying to bring together two polities for the first time. Especially since it's about the Wolf god. IIRC, the Wolf god attacked with his family and pack. We can probably draw some parallels between that and Shao's army, IMO.

Paying Respects adds a +1 bonus to arts with the Power keyword, so Fortress of Tsu can be doubled with 1 omake point.

Edited to add Plan Rooted Wings
