As a point while having a Dragon in Dorne would probably be upsetting politically it would also give a permanent, very visible representation of Targaryen rule right in the middle of Dorne which long term should help with the integration of the two nations. So we lose politically one way while gaining in another.

Not really, the relevant patriarch here is still Viserys until he dies, and I suspect part of the reason demanding the exclusive right to decide where our children are raised is such a major request is because it would take the decision out of his hands. That is to say, he wouldn't be able to decide to do something like foster one of our children on Driftmark with Cousin Rhaenys or on Bloodstone with Uncle Daemon; he would have to propose such an arrangement to us and get our approval.

What would happen if we were not to request that all our kids get the Targ name?

And how would it play out if we did not do that, but get the inherotance rules written down?

Because it is a matter of identity. Not only politics, but the entire noble self-identification in Westeros is based on houses. See the Lannisters going lion this, gold that all the fucking time, or the Starks blah blah wolf blah pack blah. This is not just a name, not just a registry mark. It is literally who we are. Our tribe, if you will. We are Targaryen, we will be Head of House Targaryen, and our children will also all be Targaryen (except the one who will take on the Martell name upon their ascension to the Dornish throne).

Now, since all we do here is to request issues that Viserys will bring up in negotiations, it is not a done deal that they will happen. But if we don't pick that issue, Viserys might relent on that topic more, maybe in return for things in other fields. You could get some compromise on the names, or maybe the abomination that was the marriage agreement between Laenor and Rhaenyra in canon (i.e., the inverse of what we want here).

Though I still think the dragon request is kind of a waste, I suppose it could be worth signalling to Viserys that it's something we're cool with so that he doesn't feel the need to push back against Qoren asking for it in the event he otherwise would.

The only real difference between Think of the Children and Ask for Nothing Major is stepstones vs where do we raise the children, and while the former would be nice, I think the latter is far more important.
