So Goose and the Boys have a slight lead? Not necessarily any mechanical effect, but it might influence the nature of what China is doing in the meantime?

So... mild reforms but Maoism still seems intact? Dunno!

How closely are we in contact with the USSR R&D sphere?

I we were like 'yo, we really want to make a computer automation system for our diesel subs, got any tips?', are the guys from Malachite Design Bureau gonna be like 'let me tell you about Ritm, that shit is banger for reducing the number of sailors you need monitoring your internals'.

So, do you remember when I told you why you could design a tank/ship wholesale within six months?

I do, but I wanted to be sure because the Alfa won't be comissioned until '77, so this is cutting edge tech for the Soviets. I don't know if they would just share it with a close Chinese ally.

Does our R&D department have some sort of torrid love affair with the Soviet R&D sphere that both sides are keeping secret from China? :p

So, TLDR; due to several familiy ties, forty owed bottles of french wine, two potatoes, and a stolen tank from the british, stuff happened in the 60s. This resulted in the "FROG" Affair, which both nations scientists unilaterally decided to never speak of again.

The end result was the exchange of information with Guangchou, and also using it as a sort of "backdoor" to communicate with their Chinese counterparts. This is mostly owed to Guangchou being a "Not Really But Kinda Vassal But Not Politicaly" under China.

The biology department is also fairly sure Zu is railing Natashya from the USSRs agriculture section when she is on a "work vacation" up north.

Is nuclear technology the exception to that because of non-proliferation? Like, if we wanted to develop a Thorium fuel cycle for power generation would they help with that (it's a lot harder to use Thorium reactors for enrichment)?

-[] Construct a semi-conductor fabrication facility to produce 6 micrometer chips. If necessary, beg, borrow, weedle, and/or steal the necessary lithography machines.

I came across this and we're one element off from pure Guangchou:

Like, why even bother having a propaganda department? Just take everything the reactionaries put out about us and play it totally straight (well, not straight, you know what I mean).

Ugh, did we really have to ask for funny out-there Hollywood stuff when the rest of the plan and the overall goal was to not come off like crazy people?

I get where you're coming from but I think that from a narrative standpoint it's good? Like, we're gay mecha north korea, there's an inherent level of silliness baked into the setting that serves to contrast the more 'cold war realism' aspects? Without it it would be a lot more depressing - and I'd argue less engaging.

@HeroCooky, if we wanted to develop say, a native version of the S-300 missile defence system, would it be one action to '[] Design Long Range Strategic SAM System', or would it be four actions to develop each vehicle? Ie: [] Design Tractor-Erector-Launcher, [] Design Detection Radar, [] Design Engagement Radar, [] Design Command Post?

-[] To fuck with them a bit and give ourselves a lead, include that that can include one Hollywood studio's worth of equipment and technical experts to jumpstart the domestic entertainment industry (ie: the physical infrastructure like cameras, lighting, etc. as well as teaching our people about practical effects, cinematography, etc.)
You just voted to tell post-Lilac/Red Scare America that they need to send American citizens to Gay Commie Land as part of getting their sailors and shit back.

That is NOT silliness that can be glossed over as just baked into the setting.

They'll either say no or say yes and make sure all these technical experts are spies working for the American government that we can't do anything about. So, oh well.

No? :thonk:

It's like, 'as part of reparation you can choose to do this', with the subtext that it's just Guangchou being weird about something and why not humour them since it's pretty cheap? Like, there's going to be a whole internationally monitored zone for them to stay in, or we can send our people to Hollywood to observe things in situ?
Hmmm, what if Star Trek: The Motion Picture did so well because Roddenberry & Co were part of those technical experts, and he got a lot of first hand accounts of what went down, which helped inject a lot of immersion into the film?

And yeah, if they say yes it's just gonna be a mix of actual TV and movie people having a weird adventure, and a whole bunch of CIA agents pretending they know about making movies and getting confused because they think there's some kind of deeper plot while our people are just like 'how to into film'.

You can do both options, with the latter (splitting it into four segments) less likely to fall prey to a bad roll and maluses due to the complexity of the system.
