That I don't know, I'm coming from a NZ needs trade perspective.
NZ got stiffed hard by their big allies (small who cares attitude) in a few years NZ will go from pretty socialist to full free market sell all state assets (even discussed selling the roads) as trade deficit started to hurt.
NZ is at this time reaching out to everyone close, SEA, Japan, the south pacific islands and South America, major trade goods is wool, mutton, a growing dairy industry.
So while NZ is aligned with the west, it started looking out for itself post war. I.E has ambassadors with China in 1972.
NZ's focus is on developing the pacific, heavily involved in the UN and I think would be a good friend if we went and said hello.
There is a cool document on stats nz I got this info from. Official yearbook 1975 a good read if your interested.

Hmmmm. We do have a bit of cash, and NZ sounds pretty desperate. It's worth reaching out.

I'd like to gather up all the smaller socialist powers into a third major block in international communism, to balance out the USSR and PRC. We should also see if we can reach out to the Philippines and Indonesia while the US is distracted. They're capitalist but within our sphere of influence. Indonesia would be a real score.

The problem is that we don't really have much to trade... maybe we should accelerate our plans to develop an export industry. The Omni-Tractor proposed earlier would be a good place to start I think. It lends itself well to in-kind trades of machinery for food.

...Taiwan may get more than a little jumpy if we started networking like that!:rofl:

Fuckin' two birds. :V

For realsies tho, maybe we should reach out to Taiwan as well, see if we can agree some some sort of mutual border draw-down of military forces as a way of easing tensions? I don't know much about the politics of this area so not sure how viable this is.

Taiwan may actually try to be a better friend if we did that honestly.

Guangchou: Hey, NZ, I was wondering if you could help me with this farming problem I am having. Could I have some mutton or something?
NZ: Sure, sure, we can be a good neighbor and start trading some stuff at fair prices, as long as it is civilian goods and-
Taiwan: Hey NZ, Great to see you. I absolutely need to talk to you right now, follow me over here right NOW!
NZ: whut-
*NZ dragged around the corner*
Taiwan: NZ, What are you doing, man! Don't you know that girl is the local Hoe? Why are you going to that bitch when I'm right here?
NZ: I literally asked you for help 2 weeks ago and you said nothing. Anyways, Guangchou seemed friendly-
Taiwan: NZ, Don't be like the americans! Don't you dare abandon me!
NZ: You know, I've barely exchanged more than 3 sentences with you, and you are already acting clingy. I'm out.
*NZ walks back to Guangchou*
Taiwan: What the hell does that bitch have that I don't!

I mean, honestly, what diplomatic ties do we want to try and cultivate this turn? I think North Vietnam makes a lot of sense, and NZ, and Cuba both seem like they could have productive impacts in food/healthcare fields. Maybe we should add those three diplomatic plans to our main plans?

Action economy hell is so real. We'll see where we can fit them - I think we get to pick a perk after completing the plan and one of the options lets us have one extra action? That would help.
In terms of who to contact first... Vietnam would be good, yeah. They're nearby and are going to need help rebuilding after the war.

So maybe adding this option to our plans?
[] Trade canned goods with NV to gain materials to buy food. (+2 Reputation) (+NV Relations) (-4 People's Opinion)

or do we want to try and do something else with NV? We may need to be careful with what we give them, because I imagine whatever we do will probably get back to China (although it won't matter in the short term, with the civil war going on)

And yes, definitely agreed about the action economy hell. It really is hurting us.

Edit: unclear wording

That honestly sounds so convoluted. Hmmm, could we have a single action to send envoys to multiple places to establish formal relaitons? That way we can just ask what they need and see if there's a mutual coincidence of needs?

sorry, did word a bit unclearly. I meant to say we should be careful because whatever we do with NV will get back to china (so no secret tech). That was my bad. Honestly didn't realize how much I messed up what I wrote here.

Anyways, I do think this may be a viable action to take, with out UN diplomat. We could get an idea of what other countries may be willing to trade, and how helpful and/or costly it will be for us. Perhaps we could even get a bonus to the rolls for later deals with said countries we scout out? It shouldn't be too hard to start talking to multiple countries for one action if we aren't attempting to get a diplomatic trade deal hammered out over multiple meetings, and just want to talk to them once.

edit: added detail

No,, no, sorry I mean that trading canned goods to material and then trading materials for food seems convoluted.

But yes, while we can build IT inspired machinery, things like the omni-tracotr would be designed to be exportable: that means simple electronics (tbf you don't need something complex if you're just using wheeled locomotion), no fancy magnetofluidic bearings for the turbines, no weird alloys, no electro-hydrostatic actuators. We can also rely on neodymium permanent magnet rotors and Halback array layout in the electric engines and generators and eliminate the fancier electronics if we don't need to make stepper motors like the ITs.

OK, yes that's fair. I can't even remember how far back it was when we came up with this option, but yeah, it does feel a bit much.

OK, this sounds like a good plan. Honestly, I can imagine selling civilian machines, especially if we have the manufacturing capability to produce enough of this for exports. However, I wonder if we could offer anything in terms of Aquaculture, whether it just be expertise and planning guides, or anything else. That feels like it could be an extremely useful niche for us, and its not like many other countries really specialize in that knowledge.

Not to argue too much as it is your quest, but NZ had trade with Peru and Chile at this time, both countries had a military dictatorship.
NZ at this time was hit hard by their major trading partners putting quotas on food imports (UK,USA)
I won't argue more.

Huh, I didn't know that.

Anyways, upon popular request, I will be adding multiple diplomatic actions to the pile... after I am back from work and have consistent internet. :V

If we decide to contact these nations, we should also decide if we should contact the communist opposition like the NPA in the Philippines and the PKI in Indonesia (or what's left of it anyway). This is especially true for the Philippines as it is being run by a dictatorship that going to collapse in a decade due to an assassination of an opposition senator and the resulting debt crisis. (Thankfully, the dictatorship collapsed peacefully OTL but I'm not sure they'll be so lucky this time.)

This is kind of hilarious. I think if someone expanded this out into a full omake it could work for the Hetalia prompt.

A discussion on the Tyrants discord has me thinking about our military: Has the social revolution reached into it? Are there like, soldier's councils and stuff, or do we use a fairly old fashioned enlisted/NCO/officer system?

The old fashioned system due to carry-over from the Guangchou Navy Marines that defected wholesale when the revolution started. They were the only military unit your father had that wasn't a militia, and as such were used as the backbone for what came after.

Huh. And now we... kind of have no use for marines. How salty would they be if they were folded into the coast guard? Do we have a coast guard?

You have a coast guard. It is called the People of Guangchou Liberation Navy.

And the marines wouldn't care. They ded, after the japanese killed 'em.

Also, just as an aside observation due to recent news;
I am kinda surprised and yet not at all that nobody noticed that Roe V. Wade was thrown out in TTL. And also... american dudes, dudettes, and dittos... I am writing about the bad time line.

For the love of Baphomet, stop speedrunning the Handmaidens Tale!

...Oh hell...
sounds like things may indeed start getting ugly...
The Civil rights conflict sounds like it's only gonna get hotter.

Militaries can't really switch away from the chain of command. While systems to prevent abuse of the enlisted men are vital the chain of command is a product of 1000s of years of bloody natural selection on a global level to figure out what works and it turns out that having a hierarchy in the military produces the best results.

I mean, everybody noticed it, but it's not really that surprising.

This is a USA that's going full 'Religious Theocratic Dictatorship' so obviously Woman's Rights are getting curbstomped.
As opposed to the USA in OTL, which is being shoved that way and half the opposing force isn't willing to beat their plowshares into swords to fight back.
