This is so cursed, I don't see the British angle here tbh, this makes Portugal less economically dependent on Britain, makes the Portuguese colonies be backed by a much stronger power that is nearer to them than Britain is to South Africa (at a time where there were Anglo-Luso tensions over the Pink Map and such, which would be carried over to this new state) and strenghtens a slave state they spent a whole century whacking out of the slave trade. Also, Pedro just honestly did not care about sucession at that point, he gave no resistance to the coup that deposed him and was most likely suffering a form of depression.
