Springtime of Nations II: A European Republic Quest

[X] Plan Turn the Flank
-[X] Do not reallocate troops.
-[X] Prepare for an offensive on the Austrian front.
-[X] Initiate an offensive toward Budapest (Pink).
-[X] Initiate an offensive toward Osijek (Purple).

[X] Plan: Pannonian Sweep
The issue is both time and strategy. Turn the flank isn't bad but is lacking in ambition to defeat Austria now, which is what we need to collapse one front entirely and be able to redirect our forces towards Russia.

Both plans aim to take Budapest. Pressburg isn't going to keep Austria in the war if it fell.

Vienna has demonstrated that 'fortified' doesn't mean much for the Austrians. They can dig all the trenches and earthworks they like; they can even fill them with as many conscripts as they can get their hands on. But they didn't have machine guns and artillery pieces to crew those defenses at their largest, most logistically and industrially important capital, and I strongly suspect that the situation has hardly improved for them since Vienna's fall.
Their lacking defenses around Vienna we're when we were interdicting their supplies! Now that Romania has entered the war, this is no longer the case. We are attacking head on into heavy fortifications against equal numbers of well-supplied troops when they have an open flank!

Maybe we can still drive the campaign to a successful conclusion, but we'll be racking up a huge butchers bill to do it.
Adding on to this, even with Vienna undersupplied we still were unable to break through frontally. The Austrians only decided to retreat because the Italian flanked them through the underdefended Alps.

Looks like Habsburgs will be taken out first.Osijek will help us by getting rid of one of their exit routes and breaking a hole in the line. In addition it gives us more avenues of attack just in case Budapest doesn't fall.

I do have a question: since we've incorporated the Czechs into the republic, does the republic would have a name change?

Because it doesn't feel inclusive when the name of the Republic still has a 'German' name attached to it. At least, that's my opinion.

I vote we change our name to "The Central European Republic"

we could also just keep appending any land we absorb

"the Republic of Germany, Czech(oslovakia?), Poland, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Belorussia, Ukraine, Russia..."

I'm down with an universalist name. I don't get why having sister republics is a deal breaker for it but a geographical designation they could be included in isn't. They're not at a stage where they want to join the universal republic but it's there waiting for them if they change their minds.

If we are renaming the country we need to think of a funny acronym and work backwards from there. The Antimonarchical Republic of Socialists in Europe. :V

(That took me way too long to think of, and it's triply redundant (who ever heard of a monarchist socialist?))

Well, I don't know about about country name, but I think we can renamed our allies to Association of Socialist States.

It's not even that much of a torturous backronym.

Maybe we can also refer to our soon-to-be sister republics as something like Proletariat Allies of Insurrectionist Nations

Federation of Anarcho-Syndicalist Communes and Independent Socialist Territories

There, that's the worst name we can stop competing now.
