Springtime of Nations II: A European Republic Quest

My understanding is that they still have quite a bit of industry is still pretty intact in the bulkans, and that are main routes of avdance in the spring would largely be mountainous terrain where your more likely to have to defend relatively smaller lines due to how movng armies through those works or cities like Konigsburg that could be very well fortified in a similar way to Vienna was, without having its defenses sabotaged due to 'negative reserves' it has to man it with.

Nah, we've basically crippled Austria's industrial capacity, since it's all in Bohemia and Austri proper. The rest of the empire is mostly agrarian at this point in time.

Ultimately, I think we can benefit more from a 3 month ceasefire than the League.

[X] Enter into negotiations.

The international news is rife with reports that the Russian Emperor, Alexander III, is seriously ill, and has ceded many of his daily responsibilities to Tsarevich Michael. His son is have to be a much less assertive personality than his father and is more interested in reform, and so he has been largely sidelined until this point. Now, with the succession an imminent possibility, he has exerted some of his new influence to send this peace mission to the Alliance.
Wait, was this a coup d'etat by Russia's Tsetsarevich? Not that it matters much to us tbh, Michael replaces Alex either way

Give peace a chance! Give us Cisleithania and Poland! Franz Joseph may continue being King of Hungary and the Imperial League does not have to pay reparations except to the families of the lost ship. The Imperial League can accept a reasonable Danish style peace or continued war.
This will 100% fuck us over in the upcoming showdown against the Entente.

@Etranger
Sorry if this was clarified elsewhere, but will we be able to maintain the Alliance blockades of the Baltic and Adriatic Seas (that is, to prevent delivery of Entente contraband to the League) during the ceasefire?

The goal is a reasonable sounding offer similar to the one the British praised as a "just and civilized peace" that is unacceptable to the Imperial League.
Ah I see what you mean. But as has been mentioned by the QM himself, Austria Proper, Bohemia, & Slovenia are all on the table for the League - which makes sense, we're literally occupying them. Ofc we should expect them to carry ascending maluses to our present leverage. So we need to go further to both be unpalatable to the League and not be completely ridiculous to the Entente - even if still viewed negatively by them.

Negotiations seem set to fail from the outset. While Russia is likely to be able to countenance the loss of Poland and perhaps more (what with them being the ones to approach to negotiate), actually asking for Austria itself seems more of a purely theoretical demand rather than one that they would be willing to go along with. We would essentially be asking an Empire to concede to its own decapitation. As much land as the remainder of the empire still occupies, it is also, importantly, not Austria, and so the empire wouldn't have much of a basis of support, even in Hungary. Especially not with the nationalist movements all throughout the empire.

Of course, I'm not saying that we shouldn't do so in these negotiations. Conceding Austria for us would be, at this point, similarly unacceptable, considering how much blood us and our allies have spilled getting it in the first place. I'm simply pessimistic that, at least in the case of Austria, this 'negotiation' will actually amount to anything more than an extended ceasefire.

That being said... a ceasefire seems it will provide much more of a net benefit to us than our enemies, so:

Edit: I will say taking Poland has to be in no matter what, I mean what would the people there think after being left back to the Russians. That together with the likely attempted taking/making its own country/giving some to Italy/whatever that's going to be attempted with Austria, makes me think the deal might just be too much. I'm still voting for negotiations anyways because I think the benefits of international relations will help keep this going long enough to get our goals

Hungary Proper is not mountainous at all, only if you're contemplating only attacking in Slovakia or south of Zagreb (the eastern half of Croatia is also very flat)

Huh, well, looks like I got tripped up by a discord conversation that happened post veinna fallng update but pre negotiation about why winter offensives would be disastrous.

I guess in that case it's not that big a deal.

I'm talking about Russias industrial capacity, not Austria's.

We should accept the offer to negotiate (not the peace deal) for the simple reason that we still are interested in seeming reasonable to the Entente. After the war, we are going to need a period to prepare for the next war, not only because we will need time to rebuild our strenght but also because we are going to need time to rebuild central europe (and the parts of eastern europe we manege to liberate).

As such, I would rather have enough good will with the international community (read the Entente) necessary to maintain peace during said reconstruction period.

[X] Enter into negotiations.

definitely good arguments for either option, but in the end i think tamping down the international tension a bit wins out, even if we have no intention of actually signing a peace. considering how much of their industrial core we have occupied, they absolutely cannot resupply at the same rate as us. we could force königsberg this turn, sure, but it doesn't gain us *that* much and it's not like it's going anywhere. given the situation in both countries there's not much danger of them getting their shit together either.

Anyway, I guess if we have much better options to strike then Pressburg theirs not much harm in keeping the entente isolationist since they remain the only remaining way for the Imperial League to bounce back.

[X] Enter into negotiations.

Just because we negotiate, doesn't mean we have to negotiate in good faith. We can tank the deal on purpose and still keep the Entente off our backs longer than if we refuse outright.

The nature of this war is neither territorial or for the cause of avenging our national honour, but rather the existential struggle between the Republic and the Crowned Heads of Europe. The only concession that is acceptable is the cessation of their existence, for if the positions were reversed, they would not hesitate to reverse everything that was wrought since 1848.

In the non-propaganda explanation of why negotiating at this point isn't worth it, we have them by the balls and they're trying to make us let go because they know our grip is tightening. The Habsburgs have had their military annihilated (we now outnumber them on that Front), the Italians have crossed the Alps and we're in position to go for the killing blow. The Russians have squandered their manpower and we now have greater reserves, while their failed southern offensive has left them in a vulnerable position for immediate retaliation (an opportunity that will vanish if we attempt to negotiate). Their overall strategic position is not looking good and they're trying to cash out before it gets worse.

In-universe, we have awaited decades for this opportunity as they have repeatedly attempted to end our existence, most recently interfering in the German Civil War. We both want each other dead and a war ended before we land a killing blow means another war a decade later, one which they will be more prepared for. This is a unique opportunity to at a minimum, dismantle the Austrian Empire and cripple the Russian Empire, because the Entente know they're next and are going to be quick in joining forces.

Reminder we're going to end up fighting Russia together with the Entente at some point, so we should take as much as we can.

[X] Enter into negotiations.

To be perfectly clear, I have no intention of actually stopping the war, not until the Hapsburg empire has collapsed at least and hopefully we have liberated more from Russia, I just think that the PR and the chance to consolidate and give a rest to our troops is worth it.

I understand that we can torpedo negotiations to resume the war. I'm however fearful that they might accept our demands. There's also the risk of us losing more unreasonable by piling on demands onto Austria and Russia to the point were us getting a positive view for being diplomatic may be rendered moot.

Therefore I see no need to pretend to make peace with them. Why waste time when Russia's reeling and our allies are in Austria? Modest gains over the winter would be very nice.

>Enter into negotiations
>demand literally everything
>refuse to budge or explain
>leave
