Springtime of Nations II: A European Republic Quest

Austrian fortification in Italy is going to make it really painful for them to push through as time goes on, might not be worth the cost in blood soon.
The Austrians pulled all of the Russians out of their Alpine defenses to reinforce the Danube, so Italy actually should have like a 3/1 advantage on that front right now. I think it'll be bloody but they can absolutely win there.

Italian-Spanish army might be forced to not do much by the daunting Alpine defences, but their navies sure are kickass for helping us wreck the League's Baltic fleets.

Despite being known for his methodical approach in most things, it is apparent to those who know him that, at heart, General Richter is audacious beyond audacity, and loves nothing more than a bold unexpected stroke to seize victory. This is the source of Operation Hoarfrost, and it shines through clearly.
Insane stuff that he pulled off exploiting the disunity of Scandinavian forces. Dudes rock.

We got Denmark! now to negotiate Scandinavia's exit from the war. The monarch already fled to London anyways.

From his field headquarters in Lodz, General Schmidt masterminds Operation Icicle: a short but powerful push toward the rail junction at Krakow. If successful, seizing Krakow will cut off one of the four rail lines connecting Austria to Russia and extend the supply line by miles and miles, further worsening the League's antiquated logistics.
Ah that troop reallocation likely blunted how (even more) bloody the taking of Krakow could've been.

I somewhat agree, any attack from the Austro-Italian border should only be an attack of opportunity - rather than an involved offensive - to accompany a simultaneous attack on Prague and/or Vienna.

Might be better to send their fleet back to the Adriatic and threaten landings in the balkans to tie up Austrian troops.
Landing in the Habsburg Adriatic is much harder than the Danish islands, so I'm not sure that's a good idea

It's definitely time to start negotiating separately with interested parties in Denmark to peel them out of Scandinavia. That entire front has been nothing but the Swedes throwing them to the wolves over and over, and if I lived in Denmark, I might start to think that cutting the king out of government is a small price to pay for also getting rid of the Swedes.

I think the most obvious candidates to negotiate with would be members of the Danish parliament, though I do wonder to what degree the membership of it would match how it looked in real life during this time period.

We should set the tone for the war by declaring a Danish sister republic without waiting for the end of the war. Scandinavia is barely independent anyway, and it's clear its high command left the Danes to die so I doubt attachment to the union is particularly strong.

Might be better to send their fleet back to the Adriatic and threaten landings in the balkans to tie up Austrian troops. No way this is workable unless it's entirely defended but it'll force them to worry about it.
They might not be so eager to dispose of their monarchy in favor of a german puppet- I mean, german-sympathetic government, especially in war time. It'd be hell to have other countries recognize it as the legitimate government and one more thing to fight for at the peace table to keep. For now let's just occupy it and see what we can do

All ideology aside, right now both Denmark as a state and the Danish as a people have two options: continue being a third-rate power in the Russian sphere, or being a second-rate power in the German one. The former has gained them absolutely nothing but a swift kick in the ass, so we'll see if that fact can overcome the natural bourgeois fear of the Radical.

Their king already abandoned them for Britain. So then who will they prefer in power: a cowardly traitor across the sea or they themselves, the workers and the peasants who have always been there and who will always be there?

What? The king fled with his tail behind his legs and Denmark is pretty much out of the Scandinavian Union. We can pretty much restructure things in Denmark how we wish.

Feel a little bit sad Denmark might become more nationalist because of this whole abandonment issue. Oh well, the actual World Federation is possibly a few decades away anyway.

I dont know how it works with the altered timeline but Denmarks first fagforeninger (unions) started in the 1870s so they are propably already quite sympathetic to the socialist cause. Also anything to get rid of the swedes.

Who dominates the Scandinavian Union? Because generally it's the Danish who held primacy in those kinds of unions historically, such as during the Kalmar one.

I am surprised bluff worked in case of Denmark. Still I am hoping for more intelligence from our network to get better idea.

Situation Report: February 1898
Situation Report: February 1898

All numbers are abstract, relative, and not precise, and exist solely as an illustration of comparative troop strength rather than as a precise indication of how many soldiers are in which place. The numbers should not be judged on the basis of realism. I tend to round to the nearest 10,000 when possible.

"Reserves" indicate the amount of reserve manpower that's readily available to a given state. More troops may be mobilized beyond that number, but it'll be costly politically and/or economically.

Ships listed as "under repair" will be back in service by the beginning of the next three-month period.

Also, the map is very rough; please do not point out issues unless something is dramatically, wildly incorrect.

Historically, the Social Democrats already had members in the Danish parliament by now, though I do not know, if it is still the case in this quest.

It's a Sweden-Denmark co-dominion, with Norway under Sweden, and Finland under Scandinavia as a whole (I think) but still in vassalage to Russia at the same time.

It's a mess.

copandseethandmaldenhagen, get fucked swedes

and also the danish king. him running away to london instead of sweden really shows his love for the swedes

Scandinavia's constitution looks like this:

The Danish Realm and the Swedish Realm (Sweden, Norway, Finland) are nominally equal partners in a union of crowns. The King of Denmark is also the King of Iceland, the Faroes, and Greenland. The King of Sweden is also the King of Norway, and co-Grand Duke of Finland along with the Tsar of Russia. Denmark, Sweden, and Norway have parliaments. The remaining countries do not.

Sweden colonized Finland or tried to, so i think Finland is under Sweden.
Sweden for a long time did control Finland, however during the Napoleonic wars they were forced to cede Finland to Russia. This was well before the PoD of the quest. Within the quest it remained Russian until the formation of Scandinavia, where in Finland's entrance was noted as being a way of Russia to exert influence and control over the new union.
