Springtime of Nations II: A European Republic Quest

Situation Report: December 1897
Situation Report: December 1897

All numbers are abstract, relative, and not precise, and exist solely as an illustration of comparative troop strength rather than as a precise indication of how many soldiers are in which place. I've reduced them by 30% to produce a more realistic result, but the numbers should not be judged on the basis of realism. I tend to round to the nearest 10,000 when possible.

"Reserves" indicate the amount of reserve manpower that's readily available to a given state. More troops may be mobilized beyond that number, but it'll be costly politically and/or economically.

Ships listed as "under repair" will be back in service by the beginning of the next three-month period.

Also, the map is very rough; please do not point out issues unless something is dramatically, wildly incorrect.

no, it's the great eastern war, ww1 isn't happening until we attack the entente, and it'll probably be against everybody we don't carve out of the empires in this war

the entente won't freak out just yet, this can easily be seen as momentum helping us at the start. the victory in jutland can probably get us a white peace, and is probably wreaking havoc in scandi's internal politics, but they're a second-rate power in the eyes of britain. it's not until it looks like we'll take out either russia or austria, disastrously disrupting the balance of power that the entente will start sweating, and trying to stop us. also remember that everybody else in the world is in the middle of a depression and blockades against germany are fucking expensive for everyone

We need to al cost after the war make our oriental front our allies germany need a free front o not make the same mistake in a war of two fronts

Is this the first world war?
The capabilities aren't quite there yet. We lack the degree of heavy-accurate-fast artillery that permitted intense bombardments against enemy advances that forced so much of the stand-off distances, as well as the effective machine-guns that made advancing against trenchworks so damned hard to pull off, and we lack the plentitude of heaviest hardware that made it so the entire western front was like that.

This is more like the Franco-Prussian War on steroids and amphetamines.

In terms of technology, it's like if the Boer Wars were between industrialized peer nations rather than a colonial garrison chasing down farmers.

So what is the plan create german block like the soviet union? After the war

the plan is to reorganize captured territory into republics, but we aren't going to turn it into an economic imperialism bloc. we'll mostly be subsidizing the various republics to get them on their feet economically, then doing fair trade with them (like, actual fair trade, not open markets)

UNIVERSAL WAR NOW
Italy
Italy (2,400,000/2,400,000)
Italian I Legion (400,000/400,000)
Italian III Legion (400,000/400,000)
Italian IV Legion (400,000/400,000)
Italian V Legion (400,000/400,000)
Italian VII Legion (400,000/400,000)
Italian VIII Legion (400,000/400,000)
Also I love the SPQR LARP going on with Italy, if they haven't already formalized themselves into Roman Republic (IIRC they called themselves this during earlier uprisings) they should if they gain territory when this war ends

There's no "of course" about it, we want a genuine free union of peoples, not just "meet the new boss, same as the old boss".

But serius why not create a economic unión with them after the war help this contries to rebuild a talk serius because the problem of germany always is geografic we need the eastern front be in our side

World Republic? Nah. Quite frankly, I don't think the people there would be all that enthused about Germans coming in to annex them like Austria was fond of doing, even if their perception of us as tyrants is false. Also have to consider the fact that nationalism is VERY prevalent in countries we're planning on liberating. They'll want their own republics, undoubtedly.

War Planning: December 1897-February 1898
War Planning: December 1897-February 1898

Despite successful showings on all three fronts of the war by the Landwehr and Marinewehr, as well as Allied victory in the Mediterranean, the Imperial League has yet to indicate any desire to bow out of the conflict, as their leadership is fully aware that this is an existential struggle. As such, the war continues into 1898.

What is to be done?

The Danish Front
[] [DENMARK] Strengthen defensive positions in Denmark.
IX Army will maintain and fortify its present position against potential cross-strait incursions while keeping the peninsula locked down.

[] [DENMARK] Attempt to secure a separate peace with Scandinavia.
In addition to the aforementioned defensive efforts, send diplomatic envoys to the royal courts in Copenhagen and Stockholm, with the aim of achieving a negotiated settlement. If successful, this will likely result in terms that represent a limited victory over Scandinavia, or at the very least a return to the status quo. Should they come to the table, the terms will be resolved via a separate vote.

[] [DENMARK] Attempt an attack of opportunity via naval invasion.
In addition to the aforementioned defensive efforts, elements of IX Army will commit to a cross-strait invasion of the Danish islands to further improve the German position, should a suitable opening present itself.

The Polish Front
[] [POLAND] Strengthen defensive positions in Poland.
Army Group Poland will focus on building up defensive positions and logistical support within occupied Poland, while restricting its movements to repulsing incursions.

[] [POLAND] Reallocate troops toward the Austrian front.
In addition to the aforementioned defensive efforts, send one or two army commands to reinforce Army Group Austria.

[] [POLAND] Attempt a winter offensive toward Plock.
Plock is the current heart of Russian operations in Poland, and taking that city would heavily disrupt their logistical situation on this front.

[] [POLAND] Attempt a winter offensive toward Krakow.
Krakow is a vital junction between Austria and Russia, and taking that city would interrupt both their coordination and their supplies.

The Austrian Front
[] [AUSTRIA] Strengthen defensive positions in Austria.
Army Group Austria will focus on building up defensive positions and logistical support within occupied Austria and Bohemia, while restricting its movements to repulsing incursions.

[] [AUSTRIA] Reallocate troops toward the Polish front.
In addition to the aforementioned defensive efforts, send an army command to reinforce Army Group Poland.

[] [AUSTRIA] Attempt a winter offensive toward Prague.
Prague is a major industrial center for Austria and the historic capital of the Czech people. Taking it would be a serious blow to Austrian morale and throw their supply situation into substantial disarray.

[] [AUSTRIA] Attempt a winter offensive toward Vienna.
Vienna is well-defended and it's unlikely that you'll be able to take it with a limited winter offensive, but it is the beating heart of the entire Habsburg empire. Even seriously threatening it would force the League to reorient its entire strategic outlook.

Italian Front
[] [ITALY] Ask the Allies to stay on the defensive.
Allowing the Italian and Spanish armies to fortify and rest over the winter will help ensure that they're fully prepared for a spring offensive.

[] [ITALY] Ask the Allies to put pressure on the League.
Asking the Allied forces to make winter attacks against League fortifications in the Alps likely won't accomplish much in terms of territory taken, but it will pin the defenders in place and further weaken the defenses.

Baltic Front
[] [BALTIC] Order the Marinewehr to stay in port.
The Marinewehr took losses and damage during the fall, and allowing them to spend the winter refitting and repairing will ensure that they're fully prepared come the spring.

[] [BALTIC] Deploy the Marinewehr to contest the western Baltic Sea.
The Marinewehr is still in excellent shape and the western Baltic doesn't freeze like it does in the east. Keeping them out on patrol will force the Scandinavians and Russians to do the same with their fleets, and the navy will assist in any potential operations that may be scheduled.

Mediterranean Front
[] [MED] Ask the Allies to maintain the situation in the Mediterranean.
By tightening the blockade on the Austrians over the winter, the Allied Mediterranean fleet can keep the pressure on while also refitting and repairing its damaged vessels.

[] [MED] Ask the Allies to send naval reinforcements to the Baltic.
With the Mediterranean largely secured, it should be possible for the Italian and Spanish navies to send some of their undamaged ships to the Baltic to assist with operations there.

Welcome to the next phase of the Great Eastern War. The following update will encompass December 1897 through February 1898. Since this is the winter season, all troop movements will necessarily be limited. However, please note that the Landwehr and Marinewehr are well-prepared for operating in snow, cold, and ice, and that winter offensives are not inherently a bad idea.

Please vote for ONE of each of the sub-options in each category, and do please organize your choices in plan format. In order to move forward, a plan must have a majority of all votes behind it; if the result is split, the top two plans will go to a run-off. If there's an even split between three plans or some other kind of ambiguous result, I'll flip a coin.

All plans include full utilization of Allied resources, including additional mobilizations, winterized equipment, domestic resistance movements in enemy territory, and common sense. Suggestions are welcome but non-binding.

Here, have an example plan:

[] Case Ostrich
-[] [DENMARK] Strengthen defensive positions in Denmark.
-[] [POLAND] Strengthen defensive positions in Poland.
-[] [AUSTRIA] Strengthen defensive positions in Austria.
-[] [ITALY] Ask the Allies to stay on the defensive.
-[] [BALTIC] Order the Marinewehr to stay in port.
-[] [MED] Ask the Allies to maintain the situation in the Mediterranean.

24-hour moratorium to make plans, then 24 hours to vote.
