That's the advantage with having access to railways after all, shifting around forces won't take up too much time if we wanted them back on the Austria front. Having local numerical superiority is always a good thing as well, hardly unnecessary as you suggest. Why fight the Russians fairly when we can stack the odds in our favor as much as possible?

Hmmmmm, we do have lightning movements alike WW1 Germany due to t r a i n s.

This and further discussions elsewhere Discord duh to trust our NPC generals to make good decisions after the reforms we've enacted - most importantly regarding further allocation of mobilization that will be made in response to on-field troop re-allocations - convinced me. Changing vote again.

I still think there's opportunities in Austria, and I'm not in love with rolling the dice on Denmark. But it's the competitive plan that doesn't strip one of our fronts away so I guess it's good.
 
I think a lot of people are overestimating the risk from Shell Game. We are still receiving reinforcements, and our next wave of mobilization is going to come online in two weeks or so in game and will be automatically allocated to where they can do the most good.

For the Austrians to exploit our temporary weakness they would have to hit us in an extremely narrow window of time where we either have fantastic defensive terrain or plenty of room to retreat. We can absolutely hold for a couple of weeks in the Alps, and so what if they push us back a few miles on the Danube? We can make them bleed for it and push them back when our fresh wave gets there.

It's not the risk I mind, it's the inability to push in Austria next combat turn. I'm already unhappy we're giving them more time to fortify Prague despite having broken Bohemia's border defenses.

So, etranger has confirmed on discord that this won't happen. If we take troops off the Austrian front, it will automatically receive a greater proportion of the mobilization to make up for the transfer. So both plans have the same number of troops available to hit Austria in the spring, mine just does something with them in the meantime.

They'd still be green and our positions from which we'd strike weaker since Austria would have been able to push them back a little with our weaker turn.

I mean most of our troops are still pretty green. Only 1/8th of our forces were actually part of the standing army. That said, taking Krakow over the winter is going to heavily degrade the combat endurance of the Russian troops stiffening the Austrian's spines, since they'd suddenly be cut off from their supply chain. I think that's much more likely to help our spring offensive than a few extra miles. It's also a chance to put Austria on a clock by choking their Nitrate supply, which is again going to have better results the sooner we do it.

Also, we can absolutely just transfer those soldiers back to help in the Austrian attack in spring.

We have the capability to rapidly transfer armies between theaters as a result of our focus on strategic mobility and logistics. Transferring troops so that we maintain local superiority ought to be a key part of our strategy, and is something the otl Germans did to great effect in WW1.

I honestly think transferring them back would be good strategy anyways, though. My plan for next turn is to basically to dig in around Krakow since the Russians have no choice but to attack it if we take it. We'll be able to spare an army from that front to add some punch on the Danube or wherever.
