@Academia Nut

Could our fleet form into a ball and do a coordinated attack on a port to secure it for our use?

Or talk with some coastal governors so we can fortify their ports in return for protection? The imperial court seems to be useless at the moment, so talking with someone with no time for bullshit seems to be a better idea.

Complicated. On land you are securing many more victories, but because of their shorter lines to their core and the fact that you are mostly ravaging fishing and logging villages you aren't really causing much in the way of damage.

At sea, the primary issue is that when you have a battle the Nohon retreat to their ports and are repaired within a month, while when you take damage you are out for a six months to a year. You also suffer more attrition and can't be as bold because the risk of a damaged ship sinking or being ambushed on its way back to a port where it can repair is much greater due to the longer times at sea. At this point you are mostly just protecting shipping.

I must say, however, that war is going better than expected.

"Hung are not helping us and we basically fight Nohon alone" was a scenario from which I expected utter disaster. Having even inconsequential victories on land in such a case is quite an achievement, really.

Shame that peace out will still be a strategic loss for us, but that's war far from home for ya.

Steel railroads and the Trans-Kyberian Railroad. So at least another twenty years of development before you can start the project.

That's generally what you are already doing. It's not really working because anything significant was fortified with those sorts of attacks in mind. Sure, you're making the locals miserable, but the primary fortresses that make holding the territory impossible while they stand are all supplied by sea. While you have hit them harder than expected because you can get horse artillery out there, it isn't enough to reduce the fortresses in a timely manner before the Qeshyks have to run off to resupply themselves.

The important ones are, and the Chesun territories are protected by mountain fortresses built to withstand artillery. The Hung have taken tens of thousands of casualties doing nothing against those fortresses, which you have wisely most just stood back from.

.. ........
There goes all my hope.:cry::cry::cry:

I still prefer the "stay at war" vote. It pleases the Royalists so is PW positive and we can DO to end the war next turn with Hung involved. We can at least start untangling this without a worse mess.

We start to build the railroads now, in iron. It can be upgraded later as the steel becomes available - which will be much faster and cheaper than where we have to lay our steel track on virgin ground.

If the Nohon ports have to be supplied by sea that gives us targets for our navies.

Also, in this timeline there is no unified law of the sea banning letters of marque and reprisal - let's besiege the Nohon with Syffrynite private enterprise.

Trans-Kyberian railroad in real life still took 25 years to build.

Because continuing to fight a war we are losing without any clear war goals with long-term benefits that our people don't know about or just can't see is folly.

The Hung are fucked! We have no allies who can help us and plenty of enemies and opportunists who want to take advantage of us. We are bankrupting ourselves for a naval war that we can't prosecute and a land war where we can't bring our strength to bear! Academia Nut has said that it would take a miracle for us to win this war and banking on lucky rolls to save the day is just bad strategy.

Vote changed.
With new information from the AN, this war sounds like pure stupidity.

PS. King's Bill is IMHO very important, especially that science part - germ theory of disease! magical healing!

As for the war? It's been just 3 years.

And the end results and consequences of this war, will likely be significant and culturally remembered a century down the line. I repeat; this war will affect the Hung for the rest of this century. That's why it's so important to win, or to at minimum keep fighting it.

Of course, a lot will depend on the Hung. Will depend on how they reform and what policies they pursue. Will depend on whether we can arrange for them to be favorably inclined towards us. It'll take work and some luck; it won't be an instant or assured benefit. But there will be opportunities, possibilities.

But if we peace out and leave them to this alone, we won't get any of the possibilities and opportunities of a reformed future Hung! The Syffrynites will probably feel free to loot them even more; the Nohon will profit massively from winning uncontested, making them a pain in the ass for us in the future. And the Hung will be pretty pissed with us.

So, yeah. It's a war we have to keep fighting. Because the potential... call it investments (rather than gains) are immense; and the potential losses (or gains by our enemies) are also immense.
