Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

I feel that it would be good to follow up with the other people who just went through that. The others don't have bleed-over from their class helping them to handle that level of violence and fear. Additionally, Laura is now confirmed to have a linker core and a potential wedge between her and the rest of Winter Hill. She's a prime candidate at this point to be brought over to our team. I haven't really thought through what sort of actions would be good for pursuing those two things, though.

Considering Laura went and countered the rather spiteful words Taylor sent at her, it seems like it'd be a good idea to go and talk to her. Maybe Kayleigh too, although in that case, I'd say adding scanning'd be fairly important.
Considering she does go out on patrols though, that might be a good way to do it. Go out and be a bit heroic with her, get on with the recruiting.

Vista has the mutagenics event, so we don't explicitly need to do anything with her, but it's Missy. It's still tempting to take her on a vacation from their vacation.

Need to get on the recruiting thing, so speaking with Laura and/or Kayleigh is somewhat of a must. I'm fairly ambivalent towards what a second action might be at this time though.

Dragon frowns lightly. "You only need us to come to the Protectorate office as a waypoint? It is not for an official statement?"

"No ma'am. Your… friend's actions," he says with no little disgust, "are enough of a statement on their own."
Aww, how cute. I'd have loooved to see this guy stay completely Non-Lethal against an overwhelming OpFor that had damned Mind Control capabilities. I dismiss his judgement as worthless.

Just vote to social them. Meet up with them at the mall or somewhere. Kayleigh would be useful at dragging Laura into the meet.

See, @Elwyn has the right idea.

Yeah, or you could do this if you just want to meet up with Laura/Cailleach.

Next week is the start of the new school year, and the arc-specific quests will become available at that time.
So just to be clear, because communication is the best superpower, going off to eliminate the Fallen is something we have to wait until the arc-specific quests become available to do, correct? Hopefully there is no disadvantage to giving them a week to deal with their losses and debrief the survivors.

I was actually wrestling with what to do about the Fallen, whether to make it a series of social events you had to vote to do or set it until later as another combat arc, but you know what? Yes, you have to wait until the arc-specific quests become available to start the Burn the Sinners questline. This also gives you time to social, scan/mutate, and arm people if you want to bring them along.

Laura has a guaranteed core. Missy needs a mutagen. Kayleigh hasn't been scanned but has 5 social events to her name. One mage wiped out a nice chunk of the Fallen by herself. Best case scenario, you'd be rolling up to the Fallen's doors with 4 mages, at least 1 Guardian Beast, plus/minus an Endbringer turned Unison Device.

Carnage.

*shrug* Sure, you could, but next chapter is going to be their interlude, so if your interest is just in how they work, you're getting that already.
Nah, more a case of me being annoyed at the detail that we help arm groups and then don't actually pay attention to them.

It is almost as though people are daring you to make it horribly backfire on Taylor.

Personally, would go with Taylor volunteering to test the newly trained team, however I am fully aware that the thread will never do so.

We don't know where to go to start hunting, for one. For another, we could really use some intel; maybe Alexandria would be willing to share?

The fallen just got an extremely painful kick in the nuts. They lost twenty of their capes, including two or three Masters; those are rare.

"I've never noticed it before, but the longer I'm stuck here in my Barrier Jacket, the more I can't help but remember that I'm running around naked except for a forcefield."

You are tempted to post that on the Internet just to have something to do
A good way to strike up a conversation with Narwhal. ;)

"I'm glad you finally realized we aren't thralls of the Fallen," you add, because really? You would be a pretty terrible slave if you went around and defeated all your masters and supposed allies. If anyone could have been cleared of Master influence without a second thought, it would be you.
Ha!
Obviously, you're working for Mama Mathers directly, and all the Fallen you killed were her enemies. So, you just helped her to consolidated the movement around her and in the same time earned some goodwill of heroes which makes you an excellent spy in our ranks!
But your plans failed, for the Protectorate remains vigilant and sees right through you!

Long time ago, before the Endbringer battle, I made a list of social things to do after it.
Finally it's time to use it.
  • Talk with Vista about mutagenes (it's happening!)
  • Laura's recruitment (seems like a good time to do it)
  • (Visit Alexandria and Legend. I don't know how much useful info they have about the Fallen, but it would be good to notify them this grim reaper from Florida is actually us. I wouldn't put it past them to decide Cinder is that superweapon we told them about and do something stupid about it)
  • Talk with the Adepts about selling Maclibuin's charms to the Protectorate or making a stash of them for the Endbringer battles
    • (Talk with Standstill about templates? If we're stealing Vista anyway...)
  • Find and befriend Jujak
  • Visit Earth Vav and accept your godhood :V
  • Would be nice to have some free time to talk with IAE about Galea, but that won't happen (I dare you to prove me wrong)

My only regret is that if we do go this route Missy won't really have had time to practice her new magical abilities and without her parahuman powers would have lost a significant amount of combat capability, even if she lucks out with an AAA-Rank core, while she retrains.

This will be the first part of the Burn the Sinners questline. I went from deciding to make it a questline to having the whole thing planned out (at least as much as I ever do) in five minutes. Guess I'm excited about this too.

…Not really. Not directly, anyway. Her powers as is have little in the way of direct combat application. The biggest advantage they give her is mobility, and while magic would not work exactly the same, it can easily still make her just as hard to hit. Her Play-Doh ability is the only one that can actually do direct damage, and that takes enough time that it's more of a niche application when they have time to set up an ambush or defenses. It's also not an ability she has had cause to use much in offense because she can't guarantee a lack of collateral damage and casualties, which makes it one of those things the PRT/Protectorate frowns on.

Most of her combat assets are her experience with hit and run fighting (because of the aforementioned mobility) and now that she has her prosthetic, her superstrength and particle cannon.

The biggest thing she loses by giving up her shard is her support capability. Right now, she can share that impressive mobility with all her allies since her powers affect the nearby space and not her. She would have a harder time doing that with magic, but it isn't impossible.

EDIT: Remember that her Shaker 9 rating is based on what she theoretically could do with her powers, not what she has actual practice doing or how she uses them in real life.

We get two actions, we could spend one with the new mages just hanging out, seeing how they're coming along with new superpowers and superpowered pets. (Might be reading Thoughts as Light as a Feather is influencing me a tad but it'd be something relatively relaxing to do)

The Chart demands it... especially since it also gives Kayleigh an opportunity to play dress up with both Taylor and Laura. ('Oh nooooo, they only have one dressing room free, you'll have to share')

We can also use this opportunity to
  1. inform Laura that the PRT has a bunch of new combat 'capes' that are actually Mages, so it might be time to think about dropping from Villainy
  2. acknowledge that she did Fortify when given a chance to completely change her appearance and powers so it couldn't be traced back to her (something even Taylor did)
  3. geek out over Laura having Magic.
  4. (we could probably even 'accidentally' test Kayleigh at the end of the day by teaching Laura telepathy.)

I feel sorry for poor Ferryman.

It was a good Shard and it did its best to halp Missy. They were inseparable for four years, they had so many exciting adventures, played so many fun games.

Every time Missy got herself in danger, Ferryman was here for her, doing its best to protect and support her.

But then a tragedy happened. Missy suffered something horrible, something Ferryman couldn't help her with.

And so she decided to cut ties. Ferryman was no longer good enough for her, no, she had new friends now. Better, stronger, more versatile than poor old Ferryman...

Stay strong, Ferryman. It's not your fault. :(

Okay, so after the massive clusterfuck the vacation turned to and that trauma balls were handed to preeety much everyone of importance, I think Taylor should spend her time trying to help Vista and corrupting inducting Laura and Kayleigh on magic. The sooner we do this the more help we can do, I think.

Specially with Laura. She just discovered magic's existence and now seems like a good time to help her realize that she doesn't need to rely neither on her family nor her parahuman abilities to do good, if she wants to.

Also, their vacations got ruined in the worst possible way, which sucks major ass.

[ ] Meet with Tim along with Missy. - Discuss the mutagenic serums and their (theoretical) ability to create Linker Cores.
[ ] Arefu no Nihon e ikimasu! - Which place has nearly no capes, and there's no equivalent on Earth Bet (Thanks, Leviathan)? Go with Missy, Kayleigh and Laura on a two day trip to Aleph's Japan.
-[ ] Explain the ins and outs of what having a Linker Core means to Laura and Kayleigh.
-[ ] Scan them both.

She does have a boom stick for a arm. Im willing to bet we could upgrade that cannon if she gets a linker core.

And before anyone asks, Missy will be with Taylor to check out Tim's mutagenics lab on Wednesday, so if you're thinking about burning a social event on that, don't.

We could take Vista on a vacation that doesn't suck instead, like that world tour we did before, but there's no need to use a social on the mutagenics. That's happening with or without our input.

@LancerisDead recheck Silently's comments (at end of chapter?) , they said talking with Missy about mutagens is an automatic event that's coming up, so not to waste a slot on it.

For your other idea though... theres a thought. We already did Philly's mall after all, not that we heard much of the results.... but what would Kayleigh do to poor Taylor's self-putdowns if we gave her the Harajuku/Shinjuku fashion scene to play with? :V :V And anyways, where better to teach people about magical girls?

We can even (maybe fudge timeline a little) give them a proper intro by finding somewhere to watch Fate: Unlimited Blade Works in theatres? (Shame Teana's unlikely to spontaneously offer us a copy of the movie that Nanoha and Fate actually made in-setting , that really should be in the recruitment package.) Can't really think of a magical girl show I know of with comparably high-level combat.... but then, I suppose after the vacation they don't need a demo (even if they didn't directly see us go ham.)

For the other action, @Shaseyu has a point. We totally need to find some time for socialing Perfect Storm about a proper story on Galea and Oriana.... and maybe this time Silently feeds us what they wanted to share, since we asked too many topics for a deep dive last time? After all, which she's not really cognizant of it, there was just some SERIOUS leakage of flashbacks in her recent spree, and I'm sure PS is feeling some warm fuzzies after those fights.

Definitely social with Laura and Kayleigh. We have bridges to shore up with Laura (she did come through for us in a big way) and if we can combine that with a little magical education? I don't think it'd be a good idea to involve the enforcers or "aliens" yet.
