Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Yeah. I'd say go on vacation with Kayleigh and Laura to Earth Aleph and scan Laura. I'm not sure about Kayleigh because of the potential for low roll for her. But we need to at least social Laura and basically tell her that the days of Villains outnumbering heroes is over. And point out that with her newfound power she can be among the most powerful of capes.

So I just had the realization that Kayleigh might have a weird shopping geekout over FIREARMS.

With 30 years of divergence and reverse engineering from Capes Bet probably has very different guns than Aleph. I bet she's never seen something like the Rhino outside of Tinkertech.

I glanced at that and then when looking up the Rhino I realized something... how would any of them pay for things on Aleph? This isn't Mauling Snarks, Cauldron and Dragon aren't shipping things easily back and forth between the two worlds, and even if they were, Taylor doesn't have a lot of money. (On Bet Kayleigh can afford to splurge and I suspect Dragon is going to figure out how to get and launder the bounty reward for the Fallen for us, but that doesn't help on Aleph)

We could take Vista on a vacation that doesn't suck instead, like that world tour we did before, but there's no need to use a social on the mutagenics. That's happening with or without our input.
@LancerisDead recheck Silently's comments (at end of chapter?) , they said talking with Missy about mutagens is an automatic event that's coming up, so not to waste a slot on it.
*thunk* I somehow missed that.

Okay, how about this?

[ ] Fallen Ace - Sit down with Storm and Sam.
-[ ] Who was Brevetti? What kind of person was she? How did she end up?
-[ ] How much influence does she have on your mind? Who was the princess? Why does your chest feel tight when you think about her?
[ ] Arefu no Nihon e ikimasu! - Which place has nearly no capes, and there's no equivalent on Earth Bet (Thanks, Leviathan)? Go with Missy, Kayleigh and Laura on a two day trip to Aleph's Japan.
-[ ] Explain the ins and outs of what having a Linker Core means to Laura and Kayleigh.
-[ ] Scan them both.

EDIT:
Dragon is going to figure out how to get and launder the bounty reward for the Fallen for us
Now that I think about, will Taylor get bounty money? 'Cause I don't know if the amount is on individuals or groups taken down, but nevertheless it'd be quite a lot of cash.

On money on Aleph: Given that we have Dragon, we can just buy some gold or something and covert them to money on Aleph by selling them to a store, enough that it'll give Taylor and co. spending money but not enough to bring suspicion. Especially since they are going to be there only briefly.

Maybe more thank her for sticking her neck out, and make sure that she knows we appreciate it and that she has options if she needs to get out? With what we now know or can surmise about her home situation I think that support might be about the best thing that we can offer her.

She does have a boom stick for a arm. Im willing to bet we could upgrade that cannon if she gets a linker core.
Tim can't build weapons powered by a mage's Linker Core without cross training in Tech Knight
Standstill wants to talk to us. But unless she calls us we have no real way of knowing that.
I mentioned it so you could put it in a social vote. Sarah is a bit embarrassed about the fact that she needs to ask for advice from a girl two years her junior (thanks Chevalier). If you feel that you NEED her to ask in character before you can justify spending social time with her, I can put it in the chapter when the subquests are introduced.

If you decide to social then both, it will be hard to justify why you're scanning one and not both. Not to mention, Kayleigh has the most social events out of any non-scanned character. Tack this one on, and she just needs to roll higher than a 65 to have a native Linker Core.

Is it bad that when I looked at that link, the first thought that went through my head was "ooh, that nebula version is pretty"? But yes, gun shopping would certainly get her excited.

While hearing how was as a person near the end, i'm pretty sure she was munched up by Immortal Assimilation Engine to become a template.

I do like the rest though.

@Silently Watches - Two quick questions mostly unreleated to the current vote:

1) With the revised NPC Mage system are you still ruling that once a Mage gets a device they can't change to a different one? I ask because under the old system it made sense since their spell choice was fixed upon creation and likely incompatible/sub-optimal for the new device which would have meant changing their spells and just generally being a hassle. With the new system however this isn't as much of a problem. As long as you haven't picked up any incompatible spells, and even that can be rectified by simply losing them and having to learn new spells (a considerable task with the XP gain rate), and aren't too far along your spell list there shouldn't be any problems. Especially if you are switching from say a Storage Device to an Advanced Device.

I ask because with the new system that PRT AA-ranker is a lot more valuable and her being stuck with a Storage Device is so much more a waste. It made sense to focus on being highly versatile and useful for local duty when she had 5 spells. Now that she can learn 15 spells grabbing a Buster or even Breaker for S-class situations seems like a worthwhile investment. Something that can only be done if she could switch out for an Intelligent Device.

2) Can Random Gears (of which PRT Philly has 3) create Advanced Devices like Intelligent Devices? I know that D-Rank Gears can't as part of their limitations from not being randomly generated but I can't recall if that is true for proper Gears.

Having to roll 65 or above to get native core is not good odds if you ask me when we only have one chance at it. I'm personally not willing to roll unless the odds of failure are less than 30%. Preferably less than 20%. Having to roll 65 means there's still 65% chance of failure.

Unless you mean Kayleigh just has to roll over 65 when the social score is added instead of having to roll 65 straight up with the odds just reduced.

Its *still* not good odds to me with the track record we've had with linker core rolls.

As for Sarah, I hope we can social her during this arc. Though talking to PS and Sam about the original Calamity Witch is good too.

Easy answer first. No, Random Gears can only build Storage Devices. Which is still better than what Created Gears can build!

Uggggghhhhhhh. Why do you have to ask that question?

You're right. I can't see a good reason anymore not to allow upgrades other than the restricted forms of the Advanced Devices (like, if you use a SD in the form of a book, you probably won't want a staff-shaped ID). So personal preference will probably play a role in that decision.

If you delay that long, I'm liable to get bored waiting for you. Bad things tend to happen to characters when I get bored.

Laura has a guaranteed core. Missy needs a mutagen. Kayleigh hasn't been scanned but has 5 social events to her name. One mage wiped out a nice chunk of the Fallen by herself. Best case scenario, you'd be rolling up to the Fallen's doors with 4 mages, at least 1 Guardian Beast, plus/minus an Endbringer turned Unison Device.

Carnage.

In character, we don't even know about an LCM mutagen yet. I'd like to at least have one week pass where we can pretend that discussion happened in the background before moving forward to a serious discussion on actually using them

Unfortunately, it would really be trying to shoehorn way too many things into a single slot, but we need a big Mage party. Scan Laura and Kayleigh, introduce the Adepts to our allies and vice versa, discuss sacrificing their powers with Maclibuin for Laura and Missy, discuss being a non-combat mage for Lacey and Mac, get a sample of Epoch's Rare skill for Tim, discuss upgrading Epoch and others with the permanent boost mutagens....

So much to talk about that even combining it into a two time slot activity would be pushing things.

Before we upgrade people, we need to consider making enough devices to sacrifice for templates, letting us make a templated character every two weeks.

Upgrading the three PRT mages who could make good use of better devices might need to go on the list, then.

Bah. Just watch, we are going to roll *just* under what is needed for Kayleigh. Linker core rolls have never really gone well for us.

Might as well get it out of the way. And I doubt Kayleigh is the sort of person who'd want power in exchange for risk of mutation so I'm rather doubtful she'd be willing to go for LCM. Unless the Fallen attack changed her outlook and she decided that she wants some of that action to stomp on the Fallen alongside Taylor and co. for endangering her family and friends.

You have this week, when Vista will find out about the LCM serum, and next week, which is the absolute earliest for Taylor to talk to people in power about the Fallen. There will be time.
get a sample of Epoch's Rare skill for Tim
And I don't know what this means. The only thing I can think of is about the Enhancement serum that can give Rare Skills, but that is both a skill Tim doesn't have and can't get until second cross training, and Epoch has nothing to do with that.

Trying to game the system historically doesn't go well for you either. 😑 It just ticks me off. Especially when this exact mindset was the reason I was reluctant to add a social event bonus in the first place.

Then I misunderstood what somebody else said about being able to grant Rare Skills with mutagens, but I meant getting a sample of his Rare Skill. It's rather useless for him(though less so under the new rules) but there might be a good time coming up when giving it to a regular Mage might be a good idea.

Aw, c'mon. We've gotta break the bad streak of RNG at some point, right? :>

Anyways, I'll probably be voting for this:

[ ] Fallen Ace - Sit down with Storm and Sam.
-[ ] Who was Brevetti? What kind of person was she? How did she end up?
-[ ] How much influence does she have on your mind? Who was the princess? Why does your chest feel tight when you think about her?
[ ] Arefu no Nihon e ikimasu! - Which place has nearly no capes, and there's no equivalent on Earth Bet (Thanks, Leviathan)? Go with Missy, Kayleigh and Laura on a two day trip to Aleph's Japan.

-[ ] Scan them both.

While I'd like to talk to Sarah, Epoch, and Macliburn, I think getting a better handle on the mental contamination from Calamity Witch template is important.

We've already given the local police department a functional army (by TSAB standards) and possibly made them a nuclear power , how much babysitting and micromanaging do we need to do?

If we wanted to take over the work of the police force who sort've have a full time paying job to handle this stuff themselves.... isn't that the whole point of focusing on Superheroes and less on the mundane mooks? >_> Thus if you're trying instead to sow the seeds for restoring the police to a more normal role of handling everything on earth (and giving them nanoha-nonlethals can't hurt) shouldn't the most we do be to pop around giving the bare starting basics and then stepping aside to focus on the more interesting stuff?

Talk of social votes this week pretty well shows we still have our trouble with juggling a great many plot threads without adding a management minigame >_> Lets focus on finishing some more route goals with our close friends, then the rogues we've already recruited, before we try to get Taylor elected Police Commissioner of Philadelphia.

Specifically? Give the three capable of using Busters devices capable of casting them or Force Teleport for Endbringer take downs. That's the limit of what I want to add to the PRT at this point. I feel we have invested all needed active effort, so long as we keep an eye on them to catch Problems as they arise.

I'm more interested in the story between EBs, but have to concede that the characters want to get rid of the walking disaster twins remaining to save many, many lives.
