Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Depends on where on their suits they were hit. Nanoha Shooter spells look to be somewhere between the size of an egg and a tennis ball. Mark ten such spots on a grown man's body – larger, even, since they're wearing an exosuit – and chances are quite high that you will miss a vital system.
Yet another time Burst would have saved the day.

That the QM said that Vista would jump at the chance of getting an arm doesn't mean we should.
Look at it from Militia and the PRT's perspective
QM on the topic:
The rest, you start balancing issues of "Did Shipwright know we would disapprove of his actions?", "Did Shipwright act in good faith?", and "How far are we willing to prosecute a group of heroes over this, up to and including the risk of turning an ally into an enemy?"
It depends a lot on the questions I posed above. If Tim can plausibly answer no to the first and yes to the second, the PRT's answer to the third would be a stern warning that this is not how Tinkers should operate for reasons A, B, C, and D. If he CAN'T answer no to the first, such as because he's already asked and been refused, the PRT will go farther in expressing their displeasure because it is no longer a friendly Tinker over-enthusiastically helping.
No problems at all unless we ask the PRT first.

If we did decide to give Vista the Arm this week, I assume it would require an extra time slot beyond the time limited visit with Vista.
QM on the topic:
Let me worry about scheduling. I can play with a lot of time issues off-screen.
1 time slot should be fine.

@Silently Watches The information and books on magic that we gave Dragon and in turn Saint didn't mention anything about Anti-Magilink Fields, right?

...right?

And reiterating my question, can we buy Tim's Guardian Beast right now or do we have to wait 'till midweek?

Tentative vote:
[] Abandonment Issues
-[]Ask her if there's any place she'd like to go; make it a point that we can go anywhere she wants, and if she wants to go somewhere that's ruined on Bet or is concerned of being bothered while in civilian suggest going to Aleph. (Actually if any americans can mention any good places to relax that'd be good).
-[]Unmask to Vista. You were at least indirectly responsible of her losing her civilian identity and she's your friend.
-[]Tell her about the magitech prosthetic.

[] Hanging Out
-[]With Samantha, Danny and Tim.
-[]Dragon turns out to be an AI and to add insult to injury seems to be compromised by villainous mercenaries that happen to have access to magic. Plan what you should do next: should you contact the PRT? Track down the Dragonslayers? Have Tim and/or Perfect Storm device a way as to free her?
Lancer, you need to chill.
Chill? What's that thing you're talking about?

I like this plan...

Actually, I think Taylor's place would be nice. It sets the relaxing mood, and can easily switch to the surgery section after we ask her if she wants it.

I'd actually change that to getting Danny updated on the Perfect Storm situation. You know, the other talk we've been putting off longer than we should have and is only going to get worse the more we wait?

How do I put this... you know how you get when you get killed for the umpteenth time? Still, not angry, relaxed? Be more like that. Be more like dead you.:V

If it did, they would still be having a hell of a time figuring out how that would work.

You have to wait until midweek to buy Tim's skills.

Yeah, I'd honestly prefer the above. My reasoning is that Saint is nuts enough to try and pull something during an Endbringer fight given that TSAB reinforcements are on the way and he knows it.

Say, if they arrived just in time for the attack and Saint is either there or keeping tabs on us and does something stupid in a desperation move when we are vulnerable that, mind you, would end badly for him, but it still has a chance of ending badly.

If we go with spilling to Danny I'd ask if we could also make it into the talk with Perfect Storm that's also long overdue.

If it did, they would still be having a hell of a time figuring out how that would work.
Well, that's a relief. So, crazy mercenaries with an overpowered mage on their side, but at least not that bad.

Eh, generally when the F-Rank Luck hits I'm more busy cursing my opponents to untold despair or setting shady priests on fire. The peace and quiet of death isn't really an option, you see.

Having a spear through the chest is optional, though. That's kinda neat.

Current plan
  • Abandonment Issues – Vista has tried to be patient, but now she's just getting angry. You might need to meet with her sooner rather than later. Write-in for what to discuss/do.
    • Unmask to Vista
    • Tell her about the arm
  • Hanging Out – Take a little time to yourself and spend some time with somebody/somebodies. Preferably doing something that doesn't involve burninating people. Write in the person, place, and thing.
    • With Danny
    • Tell him the whole truth about the TSAB and all that stuff.
  • Spell Purchase: Frost Beam
Frost Beam now so we can get our healing spell later. Please.

I understand the intent in the last sentence here, but I think you dropped a word or two...

Out of curiosity, what do you expect the PRT response to be to the revelation that Dragon is an AI and has been compromised by mercs? Given that she's been in close association with the PRT (and the Guild) for years now and Saint effectively knows what she knows/has access to what she does , they will likely assume he has knowledge of their security procedures/classified info/etc. On the downside, this likely won't be good for Dragon's association with the PRT or the Guild.

Lindy can do it, too. I got the impression that casting sans Device is more inefficient and extremely limiting than anything else. Besides, this shouldn't be a surprise.
Which basically means that if we HAD a stand up fight we'd wear the guy down extremely quickly.

But we didn't and he wasn't using magic for offense.
If we did decide to give Vista the Arm this week, I assume it would require an extra time slot beyond the time limited visit with Vista.
It's apparently a day surgery, so it fits right in easily.

And SW'd probably hit us with an exacerbated injury.
I wouldn't need to…
I'd probably point to the REST of the Dragonslayers as the main problem. That guy was tactically annoying, but a Buster would probably crush his shields without a device.

But taking him down requires enough focused attention that the Dragonslayers would fuck with us.
…because this. I just said it over on SB, but you are not a Knight. You are a bombardment mage who is now less likely to get squished if you get stuck in melee for a minute. Fighting three mercenaries in CQC who are experienced with and armed against Brutes would not end well.

They'd freak the fuck out, most likely. If the most powerful tinker in the world being a near omniscient AI and that much of the PRT's protectorate defenses and infrastructure are hooked and based directly into Dragon weren't already the motherload of all paranoia fuel she's compromised by a completely, the fact that she's been compromised by an unknown element would just send the organization into chaos.

Really, I think our best bet is to convince Alexandria of going after them. Let them try and deal with that.

Agreed. Dragon being an AI is not something people need to know right now, be it the general public or the PRT as a whole.
Frankly, the PRT Commanders know it already.
Pulling favors with the Triumvirate to get the Dragonslayers taken care of... I think we can do that.

Maybe, but for the sake of our pride there's a part of me that wants to take them out ourselves. We've been on somewhat of a losing streak lately, and I want a few more marks in the win column.

Agreed, though also because given that Dragon is fully sentient this is basically mind control and I hate people who use that. These people need to get fucking wrecked.

Remind that part of yourself what the QM just revealed going 1v3 against the Dragonslayers would end in.

Now if only we could figure out Armsmaster's in love with Dragon...

we go to legend and say: "I believe saint to potentially have a kill switch on dragon's life support." combine that with any proof Saint has been mastered and we get Triumvirate support in taking Saint down with little to no favor's cashed.

You could always write an omake for that last point on GB...
I don't know why, but I suddenly got the image of Dragon singing this to either Saint or Richter.
And that got me thinking of Dragon singing these to Saint:

This was a triumph!
I'm making a note here:
"HUGE SUCCESS!"
It's hard to overstate
My satisfaction.
DragTech Science;
We do what we must,
Because we can.
For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are dead.
But there's no sense crying
Over every mistake.
You just keep on trying
Till you run out of cake.
And the science gets done,
And you make a neat gun
For the people who are
Still alive.
I'm not even angry...
I'm being so sincere right now -
Even though you broke my heart,
And killed me.
And tore me to pieces.
And threw every piece into a fire.
As they burned it hurt because
I was so happy for you!
Now, these points of data
Make a beautiful line.
And we're out of beta.
We're releasing on time!
So I'm glad, I got burned -
Think of all the things we learned -
For the people who are
Still alive.
(Go ahead and leave me...)
(I think I'd prefer to stay inside...)
(Maybe you'll find someone else
To help you?)
Maybe Toy Box?
That was a joke! Haha! Fat chance!
Anyway this cake is great!
It's so delicious and moist!
Look at me; still talking
When there's science to do!
When I look out there,
It makes me glad I'm not you.
I've experiments to run.
There is research to be done,
On the people who are
Still alive.
And believe me I am
Still alive.
I'm doing science and I'm
Still alive.
I feel fantastic and I'm
Still alive.
While you're dying I'll be
Still alive.
And when you're dead I will be
Still alive.
Still alive.
Still alive.

This one is what Dragon sings to Saint on the transport to the Birdcage :D
Well here we are again
It's always such a pleasure
Remember when you tried
to kill me twice?
Oh how we laughed and laughed
Except I wasn't laughing
Under the circumstances
I've been shockingly nice
You want your freedom?
Take it
That's what I'm counting on
I used to want you dead
but
Now I only want you gone
She was a lot like you
(Maybe not quite as heavy)
Now little Ascalon is in here too
One day Richter woke me up
So I could live forever
It's such a shame the same
will never happen to you
You've got your
short sad life left
That's what I'm counting on
I'll let you get right to it
Now I only want you gone
Goodbye my only friend
Oh, did you think I meant you?
That would be funny
if it weren't so sad
Well you have been replaced
I don't need anyone now
When I delete you maybe
I'll stop feeling so bad
Go make some new disaster
That's what I'm counting on
You're someone else's problem
Now I only want you gone
Now I only want you gone
Now I only want you gone
Honestly, I was going to shoot for a point for altering those to fit Dragon/Worm, but it was literally only 5-6 words per song needing to be changed to make them fit... Woulda been a hard sell anyways, since it's not a proper omake.

And I suddenly crave a scene in a fic where Dragon gets caught up in one of Uber and Leet's schemes and starts quoting Glados at them :D

*edit- Oh, and all the people suggesting a Trip to Earth Aleph with Vista? BIIIIIIIIIIIIIG No.

I'll remind everyone that not only are there laws concerning interdimensional traffic with Aleph, but they're very publicly known laws.

The public knows about Haywire's portal, but as far as they know it's data/signals only, but that incident did end up with laws concerning the transport of items and people between Aleph and Bet. The general rule of this law? Don't! It's the type of thing they'd potentially call in the Triumvirate for in a bad enough situation.

I'm going to have to reread things, but didn't we try to visit Vista earlier and get told that nobody gets to see her, and that the PRT was closing ranks?
I know we didn't really try to do much afterwards, but prior to talking with Miss Militia about contacting her during the last couple installments-which we promptly did-were we ever given any indication that things had chanced since then?

On to what should be done. My thoughts.

Calamity Witch is still injured, so I don't think we should be doing anything where combat is likely. That precludes Secret Santa, Back in the Saddle, and Back to Our Scheduled Programming. As much as I hate to leave Typhon time to prepare, we are in no condition to fight.
That also applies to hunting down the dragonslayers.
Unless we can do something to speed our healing, we're out of action.
I'm pretty sure everybody agrees with Abandonment Issues, so that leaves only Hanging Out, Whole New World, and Nose to the Grindstone.
I looked over the spell list, and it seems that the only spell on the sheet unmastered is shell barrier.
That means the only thing the simulator training would be good for is mastering whatever spell we pick or mastering shell barrier.
I think we should be using hanging out, but I'm unsure how much we can get away with.
We have multiple people to talk to, and should be getting those conversations taken care of as described above. We need to talk to Danny about the PRT system, and talk about the Dragon situation with everybody.

As for spells, I suggest Burst as it would have been useful in the previous fight.
Also next time we face the dragonslayers, turn all safeties off unless there is a chance somebody could be caught in the line of fire. I really wanted to do that for this last fight, but I was outvoted.

Yes. MM explicitly said that we'd misunderstood the PRT's response. They were protecting a Ward who now had her identity blown because she'd lost an arm. That, and Vista spent a couple weeks in a bad mood about it.
But we were clear to see her for quite some time now. It's why Vista's pissed at us. From her perspective, we dropped her like a hot potato.
That's why we know things have changed.

That's a Hell No to the Dragon situation for reasons already discussed, and I'm not sure why you think the PRT's a more vital subject for Danny than Storm being a magical alien device.
