Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

*reads about "new" Butcher attacking HQ*
*starts cursing*

Anyway, sounds like a nasty end for Fenja and co.

Good update @Silently Watches

As votes-
[X] Extinction Knight

I recognize a gadget type ability is neat and useful, but I think we should continue our current specialization.

Welp I said we should put Samantha on security duty...

[X] Extinction Knight

Tinkers are boring to read about and our name is Calamity Witch, definitely a name more suited for glorious battle.

Sure, explosions are fun, but. We require more manatech expertise and we require it yesterday, AFAIK.

Extinction Knight or Transcendent Gadgeteer, though Gadgeteer looks like it would have significantly more non-combat applications and help deal with TSAB/Dragon stuff we've been going after. We absolutely need a Gadgeteer, whether that's us or someone else. We'd probably end up using it to make weapons for the Privateers though.

Actually, not really sure the Knight it all that needed. CQC would be supremely nice of course, but while the cartridge system would allow for some serious firepower, I'm not sure it'll be all that useful outside Endbringer fights.

Then again, I imagine Knight would be reallllyy nice for Philly where the CQC would allow us more options.
"Get back here now! The new Butcher just attacked headquarters!"
*sigh*Thought something like this would happen, whatever we don't pick typically ends up setting everything on fire.

[ ] Infinite Enhancement – Support class with spells that empower your allies and hinder your foes.
Hmm. Would this allow us to heal Vista?

It'd be three days of not reacting to important events to get the template for somebody else, so that point is applicable both ways.
And, we absolutely fucking need a Gadgeteer. You may have forgotten this, but we've got a TSAB radio and a bunch of other mana-tech that needs powering which can only be provided by a Gadgeteer.
So with the Template being established as of maximum priority, and the investment of time being considerable no matter how you slice it, it comes down to ease of access. We either have to spend two updates, at minimum, voting to scan someone then voting to give them the template device, or we can get the template now.
I realize we need a gadgeteer. But the thing is im looking at the longer term. Gadgeteer will be a big time sink if we take it since we'll have to specifically grind it to get better at it instead of being able to just get by on general use stuff.

We get gadgeteer and get the mana generator to make the stuff we salvaged work. And then what? Will we continue to put time into gadgeteer or will we ignore it in favor of combat?

Will people be willing to vote for grinding enough to see its viable use in the long term or will it just fall into disuse in favor of flashy fights?

Frankly finding someone to do gadgeteer for us would be far more efficient in the long run.

If we can get the Mana generator and other TSAB tech up, then its purpose has been fulfilled. Anything else, like making weapons for the Privateers, is icing on the cake.

Time to get on Devices. We need them to jumpstart more mages, as currently we cannot get a Gadgeteer...without a Gadgeteer.
We need a Gadgeteer to make new Template'd mages and communicate with the TSAB. No ifs, ands, or buts. Getting a new one from scanning is frankly a bit of an unintuitive handful amidst all the other stuff we have to vote for, so let's just get this done now.

I'm pretty sure that we can put the template on someone with sufficient linker core. We dont have to be a gadgeteer to be able to impress the gadgeteer template onto a person.

aceraptor is right; you do not have to be a Gadgeteer to turn someone into a Gadgeteer. You could even never have a Gadgeteer in your party ever but still hand out Devices with templates. Always Late's second post does make a valid point, though.
@Silently Watches, I have a quick question regarding making Devices with templates. Are we basically giving someone the same choice we were given at the start of the quest, are we just giving them four different variations of the same class to choose from, or are we just giving someone access to the same class we would have gotten it we had chosen it, like choosing the aerial bombardment template would result in another Calamity Witch?
The templates are pre-made skill trees, so they are the exact same classes you had access to back in 1.1. If you give someone a template with Calamity Witch, there will be another person with a carbon copy of your skill tree. Obviously, they (you) can buy different spells and in different orders so that second character fills a different role than Taylor, but once maxed out they would be identical.
We could build a production line of anti master devices to issue to every hero and government offical! The sheer value of that is impossible to overstate.
…And yet you managed to overstate it. You will not be able to give anti-master Devices to everybody, only those people with Linker Cores. That's 5% of Earth Bet's population, distributed randomly.
Hmm. Would this allow us to heal Vista?
When she was first injured, yes, Infinite Enhancement could have healed her. Not now.

It's worth noting also that Gadgeteer not being upgraded by XP but upgraded by actions/events actually is a benefit: If you pick a class which upgrade by XP you're necessarily trading off Calamity Witch skillset evolution for the second class's. Gadgeteer, by dint of using a different track is not in competition with that.

Ok, this is definitely useful. However, when someone is given a template, do they choose which template they get, or do we choose?

Have we scanned the Musketeers for Linker Cores? Because if we haven't, we could give one of them the Gadgeteer class.
You have not scanned any characters because no one's voted to scan anybody. As I've mentioned many times before and finally put in the FAQ section so no one would have any excuse not to understand, this is a write-in vote. Don't vote to do it, it won't happen, and the consequences will be on your own heads.

You choose.

Could, it just takes time scanning and then 3 days building the thing once we've found a candidate. At 5% occurrance, it'd take about 20 people scanned to find one on average, but it could take longer since probability. Since this takes a fairly substantial time investment, it's unlikely to happen quickly, and of course, without Perfect Storm as tutor they are not going to progress quite as quickly as us.
Of course, in 3 days we're not going to have a lot of leeway in dealing with the TSAB equipment, they're going to arrive pretty soon, and 3 days lost on THAT project is a thing.
I just realized: We can kill the butcher, since we're not technically a parahuman!
The Butcher will just jump to the nearest parahuman, or nearest triggerable creature instead.

We could.

But we would need to fight with merely Samantha for help, given that will need to use Dimensional Transfer on the butcher. Given the butcher shard can jump to another parahuman even if killed by non-parahuman.... which is why we fight on a world where there nothing to jump to.

We can drag it into a Barrier Field or whatever the fuck it's called.

Also, lol, after this our ratings are going through the roof. Blaster 9 maybe? With Shaker 6?

We need to level the class enough to cross-class again you know...

And the next cross-train is weaker than this one...
That's my problem with it. By choosing gadgeteer it would limit Taylor's growth as a mage.
And what about Calamity Witch' current template is weak? We're in the same class as Legend, so complaints about growth limits are frankly a bit weak. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

And you two have no idea The Butcher Shard would stay contained in the Recursion Field, or not just go and infect someone once we take the barrier down.

The thing about a Gadgeteer is that their effectiveness probably wouldn't be limited by core strength, as their main role isn't in combat.

The one question I have is, would 2 people using the same template be of equal power, or does natural talent have an impact on their strength?

Once this event is done, we should scan the Privateers and see who has a linker core.
I think we should turn one of the Privateers into the support class, so they have access to a healer/buffer etc.

«Mistress heir to might of Galea.»
Nothing good ever came out of Galea.
:D TSAB don't know you yet, Taylor, but they are already sufficiently terrified. It is good to have Device with good pedigree, isn't it?

Also, admiral was incorrect. Nothing nice ever came out of Galea. But Good is not obligated to be nice.
Some people see horde of replicating magical zombie.
Other see an army against fucking Belkan Reich.

Hint: Collateral Damage Barbie, a lovestruck healer, smartphones, and unseen bystanders do not a good combination make.
Oh, god.
The most powerful biokinetic in love with Ziz-bomb.
It's time to forget about your rules and tweak that Zizzed brain, Amy!
Don't worry, it isn't going to make it worse.
We have nuclear fire if it's get any worse.

I'll planning to vote either for Knight or for Enhancement.
I think that it would be better in the long run.
Also, I don't think that we need to establish communication with TSAB so urgently.
They are already sending ship, it needs, I think, about two or three weeks to reach us.
We don't need to deny them a right to explore strange new world, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no TSAB mage has gone before by giving full disclosure. :V

Question. In the event that we unconvert Samantha, can we use one of the templates to keep her around?
