Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Dimensional Transfer lets us accelerate the process of getting the TSAB involved and on the ground in Earth Bet, something which will change the game completely and put Earth Bet's chances of survival up massively.

Since we seem to take the "Aliens are out there" for next week. I would suggest taking some non lethal combat spell. Finishing those two quest lines would give us another spell to learn and if we are out because mana drain like last time when contact was made, we couldn't use Dimensional Transfer to move around thanks to high energy needs.

Cross posting from SB to try and get in before any votes gain momentum.

Well, for a plan I say at least one of our picks should be Picking up the Pieces part 3. What we do is talk to Dragon and confront her with EEG data and then tell her we have an inter-dimensional radio we can briefly power to show her we're not crazy and ask her to find a more permanent way to power with it and deal with this problem. It might be a good idea to try and meet with Armsmaster at the same time, to show him the radio and let him examine it to prove it's what we claim it is: a piece of xenos-Clark-tech.

So the vote would look something like this (this is not a vote just an example/idea):

[_] Picking up the Pieces, Part 3 – So that was a thing. Unfortunately for you and the TSAB both, dealing with angry and upset space wizards is way outside your areas of expertise. You need to talk about this with someone, but whom? And how are you going to prove that you aren't crazy?
  • Talk to Dragon and Armsmaster.
  • Fly or teleport to Boston to meet with the two tinkers, even if one's on video call. Then confront Dragon with the EEG data and present the radio to Armsmaster to confirm your claims. Power the radio up briefly to prove it and thus make dealing with the TSAB the Protectorate's problem.
  • Ask Dragon about possible salvage operations for the rest of the crashed ship from abyssal plane as further proof and to see if we can find any sort of data storage to help out Perfect Storm. After all, that's why we even began all this.
As for the second vote of what to do with our time, I'm not sure. I'd originally thought Monstrous Menagerie as that's why we even came to this city in the first place. But the Butcher helping out the Fallen? That sounds Bad with a capital and everything. Kind of torn, someone convince me either way!

Now as for what spell we should learn? Let's examine the possibilities and look at how they might help.

Ragnarök – The ultimate Flare-affinity bombardment spell. This is a city-killer and has no setting lower than apocalyptic. Has specific conditions to use safely.
Well, this is obviously a want. It is the spell we need to take on the Endbringer's and potentially win this quest (if we can win it with our own spells, we may actually need the TSAB to kill the Endbringers). It's big and destructive and the ultimate spell Taylor can learn. Nothing short of an Endbringer has a chance of surviving this.

All that said, how helpful is to us right now really? Not very. It has no safe setting and destorys everything in the general direction it's aimed in. It's not a spell for anything less than an S-class threat. Basically, against everything but the Simrugh it would not be useful against any of the opponets Taylor has faced or is likely to face in the near future. The only exception might be Echidna if it is indeed her creating the monsters. However, Solar Wrath on lethal should hopefully be enough to deal with her, otherwise we can just persuade Sundancer to go all out like Taylor did in canon.

I'd say we shouldn't pick this yet and get something more immediately useful. Though if it looks like we're coming up against Echidna and we can pick this before then, or towards the end of the next month I say we pick this. We want it before facing Leviathan after all and it would be nice to have it burning in our pocket in case Echidna gets uppity.

Burst (0/1 Adept) – Modification for Flare Shooter and Rust Shooter. Bullets may be set to explode upon contact or remotely.
This seems really useful. Taylor wanted a sort of machine gun like improvement of Flare Shooter this chapter. While this may not be what she wanted it is a way to make each Flare Shooter shot count for more.

I mean, at the moment, and especially if we follow the Monster quest line, most of our fights have been against multiple opponents. Having the ability to do splash damage and amplify our primary attacks power and effectiveness seems a smart move. It might also unlock the ability to learn a machine gun like attack that Taylor wanted.

Frost Beam (0/2 Novice) – Magical laser traps multiple opponents under a layer of ice that lasts for 1 minute. Beware of friendly fire.
Hmm. This seems like another nice AOE crowd control ability. Now, while we may have Temporal Sludge to do the job, it doesn't make opponents stand still, it slows them down. This makes them remain still but is likely actually able to be broken out of or phased through unlike Temporal Sludge. It also has a longer base duration so less need to keep casting our crowd control spell.

Another point is that this spell would unlock whatever comes after Temporal Sludge on the Entropy tree. That spell could be exactly what we want to deal with massive crowds, possibly some kind of time stop though probably over a smaller area or even single target.

Anyway, this pick would be good for dealing with large crowds of enemies and help in group fights like we just had. However, Temporal Sludge already somewhat fills this role.

Ring Bind (0/2 Novice) – Conjure rings of magic that wrap around target's limbs to lock them in place. The binds last one hour unless broken or dismissed. Currently, only one target can be affected at a time.
The ability to essentially lock a single target down for us to open up on them or wait for the PRT to arrive and foam them.

The uncertainty of this spell comes from 'how many capes can escape it?' We know it can be overcome with brute force (WOG). So how many capes can simply break their way out? And what other exotic affects can let capes escape? Could the Butcher teleport out of it? Could Cadjo phase through it? It's also limited to one target at a time and nearly all our fights recently have been against multiple opponents.

Basically if we want to go down the Monster quest line this spell would be probably useless as we'd end up presumably facing the Travelers, multiple opponents and then Echidna who could presumably brute force her way out just like an Endbringer.

That's not to say it's a useless spell it just doesn't seem that useful if we want to fight the Monsters or the Butcher who can teleport @Silently Watches confirms it prevents teleporting once someone is captured, which it may do as mages don't port out of it in MGLN).

Dimensional Transfer (0/4 Novice) – Teleport across dimensions. You currently can only teleport yourself and those you are physically contacting. Indirect contact is effective for a chain of less than five people, but the longer the chain, the more strain it puts on the caster.
Question! What is on Earth-Gimmel? The TSAB or at least an Administrated world? Or do we have to find out on our own? If Gimmel is an Administrated world that'll help us get the TSAB on the ground much, much faster and possibly start getting the whole of Earth-Bet into better shape not just the patch where we are. Also, Endbringers? Meet Magi-tech warship!

This spell would let us explore a lot more and potentially help out those on Earth-Bet. If we can take people through to alternate Earth's we could take the Privateers to Aleph, look for an uninhabited world and begin ferrying people across until a tinker can make a portal from the far side (to avoid getting jumped on by the Simurgh). It sounds and like it could open up a whole new range of quests for us.

Another point, with this we could possibly cool off Echidna and/or the Travelers with a bribe. We could take them home, back to Earth Aleph. That could be a way to peacefully diffuse the situation. Get Echidna help from the protectorate or lend her perfect storm for a week to burn out her Corona's Pollentia and Gemma to get rid of her powers and let a treatment stick. Then we send them all home and resolve Echidna peacefully and with a happy ending.

Still, it's not something that is immediately useful. I'd say we should only pick it once we know it's the Traveler's and Echidna creating the monsters and not Blasto or some other tinker/parahuman.

Basically, this all boils down to what we need/can use right now vs what we need in the future and how many more spells we'll get before the next Endbinger. I'll bet it's at least one so say we shouldn't get Ragnarok. Instead, I'll say if we go after the Monsters we should go for Burst, if we go for Snark Hunt and the Butcher I'd say Ringbind to let us pick off dangerous enemies like Valefor or the Butcher.

Our next pick of spell is time dependent though:
  • Little time to an Endbringer is due? Ragnarok.
  • A few weeks still, aka, enough time to learn another spell and still learn Ragnarok before Leviathan
    • If it is Echidna to attempt a peacful resolution we get Dimensional Transfer
    • If it's not Echidna or we went for another quest go for whichever out of Ringbind/Burst wasn't picked this time.
    • At some point though I really want us to get Dimension Transfer, I may advocate it more after we've moved Picking up the Pieces further along, depending on what happens with the TSAB.
Heck, make a day of it at the PRT!
This... sounds like an awesome idea. @Silently Watches , can we stunt in a vote like that? A vote that combines multiple quests but takes a whole day? A vote that would look something like this:

[] Make a Day of it! You've got so many things you need to talk to the Protectorate about you might as well grab Samantha and your Dad and spend the day at it.
-[] First, Picking up the Pieces, Part 3. So that was a thing. Unfortunately for you and the TSAB both, dealing with angry and upset space wizards is way outside your areas of expertise. You need to talk about this with someone, but whom? And how are you going to prove that you aren't crazy?
--[]Talk to Dragon, Chevalier, and a local tinker.
--[]Tell them this is first Contact Protocols, hence you need Chevalier there and a tinker to confirm your find. Meet with the two tinkers, even if one's on video call and the local leader of the Protectorate. Then confront Dragon with the EEG data and present the radio to the local tinker to confirm your claims. Power the radio up briefly to prove it and thus make dealing with the TSAB the Protectorate's problem.
--[]Ask Dragon about possible salvage operations for the rest of the crashed ship from abyssal plane as further proof and to see if we can find any sort of data storage to help out Perfect Storm. After all, that's why we even began all this.
-[] Second, Monstrous Menagerie, Part 2-ish? – Those Beasts that attacked the party had to come from somewhere. Meet with Miss Militia after lunch to ask about what she knows about the creatures, and demand some answers if she tries to hide the truth again.
--[]Ask her for a brief summary of the situation in Brockton Bay while you're at it. You knew the Fallen were there, but what's this you hear about the Butcher? Is your help needed?
-[] Third, Visiting the Injured. - Vista go injured while helping you and you feel responsible ask if it's possible for you to visit her and apologize. You feel guilty and want to say sorry to the Ward you tentatively consider a friend.

This sounds like a combination of Dragon's horde and Pieces, and I don't think the combination of the two's allowed now, but I could be misremembering what @Silently Watches said.
However... we don't want to just toss the TSAB onto the Protectorate. Or rather, we cannot. The TSAB will only be initially interested in the girl with their 'stolen' equipment, and the Protectorate's just going to reel us back in either on principle alone, or once they learn what Taylor's sitting on. I think the best option at this point is to make the second call with Dragon. Not Armsmaster. You want to bring him to a delicate diplomatic situation?
As for the second vote of what to do with our time, I'm not sure. I'd originally thought Monstrous Menagerie as that's why we even came to this city in the first place. But the Butcher helping out the Fallen? That sounds Bad with a capital and everything. Kind of torn, someone convince me either way!
If we can indeed combine Pieces and Dragon's Horde, then I'd consider Monstrous Menagerie. IF.
The Fallen and the Butcher are city-wreckers.
Echidna is, devilishly clever, an experienced leader, and an apocalypse that's had time to absorb her teammates and build up.
The scale is clearly different.
Another point, with this we could possibly cool off Echidna and/or the Travelers with a bribe. We could take them home, back to Earth Aleph. That could be a way to peacefully diffuse the situation. I highly doubt it will happen exactly in that order, but that is an ideal to shoot for.
We'll probably just end up dropping Solar Wrath on her until she stops moving though. Because that's how Simurgh plots roll.
--[]Tell them this is first Contact Protocols, hence you need Chevalier there and a tinker to confirm your find. First Contact is something you bring to an international organization or the federal government, not the Detroit PD.
Again, Dragon is the person we should bring in for this second call, and from there she can bring in the Guild and the Triumvirate. Dragon can fulfill the analysis part of your vote, and we will never successfully foist the entire TSAB situation onto the Protectorate.
-[] Third, Visiting the Injured. - Vista go injured while helping you and you feel responsible ask if it's possible for you to visit her and apologize. You feel guilty and want to say sorry to the Ward you tentatively consider a friend.
Dumping an even bigger problem on their doorstep is not going to make the PRT forget our screw-up. We napalmed the bridge with the PRT.

Yes, binds do block teleportation because the captured individual's limbs are actually locked in space. That said, it doesn't take much in the way of superstrength to break out, so be careful when applying to Butcher.
[] Make a Day of it! You've got so many things you need to talk to the Protectorate about you might as well grab Samantha and your Dad and spend the day at it.
You can't go spending the whole day at the PRT. None of this is so time-sensitive that you can't split it up over two afternoons, and because of that, Danny wants you to go to school. Not only is it necessary for any non-cape job (he still has hopes you'll go to college and get a normal job with heroing as a very enthusiastic hobby), but it helps reinforce the divide between Taylor and Calamity Witch. That said…

I did promise to let you combine PutP3 and ADH3, so you can do all this in one afternoon.

This meeting would be a second afternoon. And it should be, when you think about it. You would have just dropped literally world-changing information on the Protectorate; they need some time to process.
-[] Third, Visiting the Injured. - Vista go injured while helping you and you feel responsible ask if it's possible for you to visit her and apologize. You feel guilty and want to say sorry to the Ward you tentatively consider a friend.
You could ask about this, but there is a small little issue. Well, two of them, really, but the more important one from a visiting perspective is that Vista does not want to see anyone right now. Not just you, anyone.
Dumping an even bigger problem on their doorstep is not going to make the PRT forget our screw-up. We napalmed the bridge with the PRT.
It isn't the PRT where the other problem comes from.

Right, got it. Thanks for the reminder.
This meeting would be a second afternoon. And it should be, when you think about it. You would have just dropped literally world-changing information on the Protectorate; they need some time to process.
And Alexandria would need to step up her plans to bring Calamity Witch under her wing. (And recapture that earlier idealism.)

Her parents. They're pissed at Calamity Witch (maybe even the Protectorate too) for letting this happen to their daughter.
EDIT: Ignore the above.
And Vista (almost) dying and losing a limb, not to mention her parents BS being worse than usual, has unsurprisingly left her in a depressed state. She's probably bedridden, which makes things worse.

Well, I planning to choose Pieces/Dragon and Menagerie.
And either Frost Beam, Ring Bind or Telekinesis.

Vista does not want to see anyone right now. Not just you, anyone.

Didn't her parents die when escaping BB and now she is under Miss Militia care.
Yes.
"Vista's parents chose to head to Manchester. They didn't make it.
...
Legally, the courts still need to decide who receives custody of her civilian identity, but I have custody of her cape identity until we get settled in Philly"

So, I'd imagine we would be doing something like this.

[ ] Picking up the Pieces, Part 3 – So that was a thing. Unfortunately for you and the TSAB both, dealing with angry and upset space wizards is way outside your areas of expertise. You need to talk about this with someone, but whom? And how are you going to prove that you aren't crazy?
-[ ] Who do you talk to? A Dragon's Hoard, Part 3 – You got Dragon her EEG data, and at great cost to Vista. You know that it didn't give her any evidence that you're secretly a parahuman. Confront her on the issue, and get your first ally who knows that you're something different and special.
-[ ] What else are you doing at the time? Ship salvaging with Dragon OR Contacting TSAB again with Dragon present.

Then one of these options.

[ ] Snark Hunt – …And the Butcher herself showed up to help out the Fallen for whatever reason. Great. Go to the emergency meeting that has been organized to help plan what the heroes' response to this move will be.
[ ] Monstrous Menagerie, Part 2-ish? – Those Beasts that attacked the party had to come from somewhere. Question Miss Militia about what she knows about them, and demand some answers if she tries to hide the truth again.

On one hand, Menagerie is local and will continue to get worse and with the Butcher issue going on, hero presence is going to lighten on the Rats in favor of containing the Teeth.
On the other, Butcher will be a pain in the ass if it manages to possess a new host if that is what it is aiming for.

Vote 4.15

We've talked, you've had time to think. Now it's time to vote.

I'm liking the Picking up the Pieces/Dragon Hoard combo, and I'm thinking Dimensional Transfer is a good spell to pick up next, especially because stranding people in empty worlds sounds like a good tactic for dealing with anybody who deserves a kill order. I'm still a bit iffy on the details, and am shopping about, if you will.

Combining Pieces and Dragon's Horde for First Contact/TSAB goodness, dealing with Echidna because she's up to something, and getting the Dimensional Transfer spell because it's kinda part of the First Contact stuff.

EDIT:
Changed spell.

My reasoning for Snark Hunt over Monstrous Menagerie is mainly reputation purposes. There is still an issue of following a sub-quest to it's end before the arc is over though. Kind of a balance between bonus prizes and your relationship with other groups (mainly the PRT).

Don't want Danny to be anywhere near the Butcher in case s/he croaks it.
