wait I remember Nurgle stole Isha from her husband

Mr. Steal Your Girl is that you

isha's husband DIED in 40k from being nomned by slannesh when it was formed, it was nurgle who dfid that "saving" her from one hell into another as a tester for its plague's.

You're definitely right about that, though I think our champion will win against Lightbane.

and lightbane IS our champion, it's an exalted MADE to hunt other champions/avatars of other gods. Aka its a PC killer made by a particularly cruel and vindictive DM that wants someone VERY much dead. Plus, all that power it eats from the "Lights" aka Daemons and warp-infused souls from divine beings of the warp empowers both it and us in the long run.

Whoops, my mistake. 😅
But yeah, with Lightbane on our side, no way the Greater Daemons will be able to stand up against him!

at least anything with a combat score below exalted...and even then, this guy is SPECIFICALLY made to HUNT hero/champion type characters. Basically, we just send a murder-hobo out into the chaos wastes to royally fuck over khorne's operations via head-hunting, which is going to hurt his war-effort in the longer term since a god's champions are basically lifelines, the more power and prestige they have, the more powerful the god gets, which in turn empowers the mortal. Ect. ect...however break that loop and send a crazy-pants murder-hobo off to go "Hunting Lights", then shit goes down the drain for everyone. Though it won't weaken khorne enough to matter, it still is a massive set-back for chaos since now they HAVE to ensure their champions have essentially anti-murder hobo bodygaurds designed to fight against Lightbane.

which is no fucking easy task, since each chaos god only has certain counters to the other chaos gods minions, like slannesh has a specific exalted deamon thats perfect match for either Great unclean ones, lords of change, or Blood thirsters. These daemons are specific counters to other daemon's of the chaos gods, and Lightbane is basically the counter to chaos's trump cards they so LOVE to play.

The Connection
Omake: The Connection

Beyond the veil between realms lay a grand maelstrom of shadow. Within that realm sat both heaven and hell. Heaven for the faithful and hell for the foe. Within the center sat a great throne. Atop that throne sat a great dragon a veritable moving mountain. That great form remained perfectly still like a statue staring outward into the beyond. Watching the ongoing struggle in total silence. Within it's mind however nothing was still.

Dracul growled to himself in anger for what must have been the thousandth time. The tide of daemons attacking his barrier had not abated at all. In addition he could sense that his followers that had gone north were having difficulties. The necromancers were having difficulties regarding a large scale incursion by the daemons of the blood tide. He could sense that many of his undead servants had been destroyed or otherwise damaged through his link to them. He could tell they were making progress, but very slowly. Even as he was stuck like this he could still gain information through his connection to his servants.

Once again he cursed the dark gods for putting him in this position. Had he been able to go to Kislev himself the battle would have ended in less than an hour. His divine powered spells would have annihilated the Khornates where they stood. A simple spell would have vaporized or otherwise banished the daemons who aided them in seconds. The barbarians themselves would have been aged to lifeless bone. His undead would have surged under the weight of the boons he granted. It would have been a repeat of the rot tide. Which is precisely why the dark gods had trapped him like this.

He couldn't even send out his other servants to aid the humans. The vampires each would have been able to tear through hundreds of the brutes single-handedly. Their magic would have also allowed them to move much more of the army. Maybe not all of it, but much more than it was now. The dragons would have drastically shortened the battle. Simply raining down destruction with the force of their powers would have wiped out many of the enemy. Maybe even have destroyed their fortress in it's entirety with enough of them. Except politics with the nations of order had kept him from sending them.

He snarled with rage as he felt the massive surge in chaotic energy. The ritual had succeeded in it's purpose. The greater daemon now walked the materium. Unless the mortals pulled off a miracle this would likely be the end of this campaign. Many of his necromancers lost for nothing and the nation of Kislev likely to fall. The thought of such failure enraged him to an immense degree.

Then came a spark of something. He did not know what it was. It felt like the connection he had to his worshippers, but more primal. Then the information came through. And he started to laugh as it told him of the future. This entity was a greater daemon in service to him. One that would hunt and kill in his name feeding him power from those it slew. More importantly it told of what could and would be.

A future where his army stretched from horizon to horizon. Where his empire extended across the Old World. Where he was the ruler of the forces of Order. It pleased him immensely to see it all.

So he bade his servant forward. Bring him the lives of his foes so he may grow stronger. So that he may make that future real.

The Forest Queen
Omake: The Forest Queen

Ariel shivered as she looked out beyond her forest realm once again. She did not know why she continued to trouble herself like this. Perhaps it was the fear that what she was viewing would target Athel Loren. That she wanted some advanced warning if that happened. Maybe it was in the vain hope that something had changed for the better. Perhaps it was simply out of some form of morbid curiousity. Whatever the reason it did not make things any easier for her.

To answer those questions in order the results were mixed. There was no sign of the dragon god striking at the realm of the Asrai. It was still preoccupied with affairs in the North and the Sea of Souls. Her hopes for change were thoroughly dashed. There was no sign of the great monster being brought down. No great crusade being sent against it. No clash between gods to slay it. Not even a speck of internal dissent that might split its empire. The only thing going wrong for the monster was the daemonic assault.

Part of her hoped that would be the creatures end. That the ruinous powers would do some good for once and destroy this monstrosity. No such luck on that front. This assault was not the real deal. It was merely a way to keep the dragon where it was. Far away from the battlefield. Part of her was disappointed the other parts were relieved. She knew that a massive assault like that would quickly turn on her own realm after finishing the beast.

As for curiosity well there was much for her to see. She saw great castles once inhabited by nobles now ruled over by elder vampires that held court there. She saw millions of undead marching in patrols across the now corrupted lands. She saw human wizards and necromancers practicing their craft with impunity like never before. Using the wind of life to simply grow more plants for the slaughter to feed themselves. Desecrating nature as they went with atrocities like the cursed copses forming across the land.

She saw great packs of dark beasts tamed and used to hunt foes. Great dragons that slumbered in the housing crafted for them. Great bustling cities of dark gothic architecture covered under a pseudo permanent night time. Among them great cathedrals where thousands gathered to pray to a monster. She saw the dread citadel that the dragon called home in the darkest part of its realm.

It truly disturbed her to see what had become of their old neighbor. It was true that Athel Loren had never truly been close to Bretonnia. Still they had their uses. Primarily being a shield of sorts for her own people. To see that buffer gone so quickly had been concerning. Before the dragon came there was still some chance the kingdom could pull itself back together. Especially if they decided to back one of the claimants of the throne.

Then the beast came with it's army. A great black tide of dead flesh and bone. Flying above it thousands of dragons. Bolstered further by dozens of necromancers. Bretonnia in that state had no chance. So the kingdom crumbled and the new realm of darkness took its place.

Leaving a massive threat at their doorstep.

Using the pieces of its essence, they gained a connection to the foul energies that powered the summoning ritual and used it to open a channel to the dark realm of their master.

this part duplicates, also is Lightbane from an Omake? I admit I haven't been keeping up with them.

The Forest Queen 2
Omake: The Forest Queen 2

The presence of the dark god and its empire had been a constant source of anxiety for Ariel over the last few years. Ever since she had first learned of its presence. Years before it had revealed itself even. A persistent feeling of unease that followed her around after the sun had set during those days. At the time she had simply shrugged it off as stress or worry about some other problem. Like that horrid wretch Morghur deciding now was a good time to attack.

She should have paid more attention to those feelings. At this point in her long life she had learned to trust her instincts. They had served her well over the millennia even if she did not always listen. Like with that hag Morathi. Oh how she wished she had simply killed the bitch queen when she had the chance. If she had trusted her instincts so much suffering and death could have been avoided. Now she had failed to do so once again. Dammit she was a demigod of course she would have feelings about something like a dark power rising.

The day the dark pillar appeared in the sky had been one of the most frightening experiences on her life. The massive wave of darkness that echoed across the Other Sea had shaken her deeply. It had echoed with the power of dragons demanding supplication and compliance with its will. It radiated the promise of cold directed malice. Worst of all it had reeked of the corruption of the undead. It was then she knew that a new dark god had been born. Further reinforced when she sensed the power of the Changer. A working only that god could create. A powerful concealment that hid the new god from sight until it was ready to make its own moves.

Few things could compare to it in her mind. Her own patron Isha was of course superior in power to this monster. As was her husbands patron Kurnous. The great Oak itself would always be superior as far as the Asrai were concerned. That was an immutable fact in their minds as certain as the fact that the sun would rise again.

Of course it had not stayed the same. This was not the minor gods of chaos. It was not the verminous horned rat and it's self destructive behavior. It was not Hashut and it's narrow minded gathering of faith and power. It was not the simple and gluttonous Maw revered by the Ogres. No this was another entity all together.

So this new creature had seized the lands of Old Bretonnia. Tearing down the old rulers and wiping out the dominant faith. Crushing all that opposed it with a vast tide of Black Death and swarms of dragons. An unstoppable juggernaut that seized all in a matter of months. Then the beast started to build.

It seduced the people to its side. Using magic to heal ailments and giving vengeance to earn their faith. Using tireless labor to construct great roads and cities. Vast cathedrals rose where thousands prayed daily. Vast amounts of food produced by new farms filled bellies and the population surged. All the while the beast fed growing more powerful with each passing year.

Part of her wondered about what could have been. If she had listened to her instincts. If she bothered to look beyond her own realm. Could she have prevented this? Stopped this monster from being born. She did not know.

It was too late to do anything about it now. All she could do now was prepare for when the beast inevitably came to their realm. Though she feared greatly what would happen when it did.

The Forest Queen 3
Omake: The Forest Queen 3

The Wood Elves were a strong people. Every warrior was a fighter with years of experience in the field. A master of blade and bow in their own right. Each weilding strength and speed beyond that of any human. They boasted mastery of the magical wind of life being able to reshape the battlefield at will. Many tamed beasts walked at their sides into the fight. Ranging from the lovely buck mounts to the eagles carrying men above. Their army was superior in quality to any other force in the world.

Their home itself was a vast natural fortress. Only the wood elves themselves and the spirits could navigate it. The great paths within would shift and send foe right into ambushes. Great trees would strike with crushing blows and whipping vines. Great beasts would emerge from the growth to tear into foes. The spirits themselves would march to wipe out any invaders. All the while the Asrai would strike from all manner of angles and carve into them. This was their home and they held the upper hand here.

This realm had withstood the depravity of Chaos long ago. Had endured attacks from the Dwarven realms. From the arrogant humans of either neighbor. It had held out against the armies brought together by the Corrupter. Had been the end of greenskin hordes. No one had ever taken Athel Loren. All of this did little to comfort the queen of this realm.

Ariel felt a great ting of anxiety as she thought over things. She had faith in the strength of her people. In the strength of the spirits. In herself and her husband. Still she knew that belief did not change the grim reality of things.

She knew should the dark dragon invade they would likely fall. Her people had little experience in dealing with the undead. Though they knew the basics of it. Those however did not really apply in this situation. This was an army of the unliving unlike any other before it. It was far larger and far more refined. Most importantly it was led by the avatar of a dark god.

If the dragon attacked it would be disastrous for her people. The vast legions of undead would pour through her realm. Overwhelming and crushing all in their path. Necromancers would unleash dark magic to empower them or deal death directly. The vampires would rip and tear while bringing their own magic to bear. Even if they were eliminated the undead were tied to the god. So the usual weakness was void. These undead were more powerful than usual as well with large numbers of elites like the black knights among them. The swarms of dragons would unleash their wrath as well.

The god himself was the greatest worry. He would crush all before him like he did with the rot tide. She had witnessed that from afar and knew he had grown more powerful since then. He would kill thousands if not more with a single spell. She was unsure if it was even possible to stop him. She and Orion were demigods yes, but against the full power of a god. She did not know if they could win.

Even if they did the damage would be immense. Many of her people would die in the clash. Many spirits would fall as well. The forest would be ravaged like never before. Leaving them vulnerable to other forces.

It was a lose lose situation it seemed.
