The Blood Tide - The Battle of Ungalya Part III
The battlefield became silent as the two titans stared at each other, seizing up their opponent. The Vermillion Knight was a beast born of the blood of the innocents that was spilled by the Knights of Bretonnia, each vengeful and hateful last though by those innocent souls coalesced into the Exalted of Khorne. He symbolized the merciless slaughter given by the Bretonnian knights over the centuries of their existence.

Each time an arrogant knight or noble trampled or slashed at an innocent, The Vermillion Knight would grow stronger, but the most ironic of the situation was that he never had to influence them, they did the slaughter themselves which perfectly suited the servant of the Blood God.

Of course, now that the Knights of Bretonnia would never gallop across the lands killing both monster and man, evil and good, corrupt and innocent. Which angered Khazhoc more than anything else, as before he would simply have to wait in the Realm of Souls from his strength to rise. But now that was no longer possible. He would have to search for the power himself.

Though this didn't irritate him, he is a daemon of Khorne after all. It still stung at his pride. So when the calling to the Mortal Realm came, he found it would be against the forces of the Dark Dragon that had taken the Land of False Knights for himself. He eagerly crossed the boundary between the two dimensions and was ready to spill the blood of the servants of the Dark One.

But he definitely did not expect to meet with such opposition. After all, he knew ‌the Dragon did not have servants born purely from the Aether, aside from the dragon kin that ascended beyond their physical shapes and became beings of pure soul instead of just matter.

But it didn't matter he would fall like all the others.

Unknown to him, this would be the last time he would ever walk upon the Mortal World.

*******

The two warp spawned servants clashed faster than either party could see, their clash scattering anyone close enough with a thunderous shock-wave, be they dead or alive. And like they were given an unspoken signal, the two forces clashed once more.

As the two forces clashed once more, it was undeniable that the Warriors and Daemons of Khorne had better martial skill than the shambling corpses. Even the Grave Guards, who were veterans in life, paled in front of their ferocity, but the forces of the dead more than made it up by using their near endless numbers of bodies that could be thrown their way. And no matter how skilled one was, they could not fight hundreds of millions of undead on their own.

Which is exactly what happened across the entire fortress, no matter if the servants of the Blood God killed thousands each single breath they took, millions soon took their place, and slowly but surely the army of chaos was being killed like the pests they truly were.

And as the two armies continued to give their all in their fight, the two daemons continued to fight, their weapons moving at ultra-sonic speeds, reducing any unfortunate enough to get hit by them into bloody pastes. They parried, slashed, and pierced, and dodged faster than any present, mortal or otherwise, could see.

Each blow was powerful enough to carve open castle walls and fell even great giants, but each one was parried or dodged with inhuman agility and precision. But every time the two daemons came to blows, it was Lightbane that gained even a bit of an advantage against his opponent.

For that is why he was the one who could fell even the greatest of champions of chaos, for every time he crossed blades with a rival, he would quickly become more skillful, correcting errors in his form, or attacking at blind spots that not even his enemy saw before. He would reach where he would start dealing wounds to his opponent..

Which is exactly what happened, as The Vermillion Knight couldn't block, parry, or dodge a slash of his sword that opened a gash on his left shoulder. The Exalted of Khorne roared in anger and pain, for the sword had harmed not only his body but also his very essence.

That was another reason the ‌Lighthunter is/would be so feared. His sword was the prototype of the Rune Weapons that the Dark Dragon would create, though still inferior to the two great swords that would gain much renown in the future. It was still a dangerous weapon, being capable of harming the very essence of a daemon, no matter their power, as the Exalted just found out.

Fueled by his anger, Khazhoc struck harder than before. His form was constantly shifting into even more ferocious but at the same perfect forms of combat. But it didn't matter as both he and his opponent could clearly see where not only their duel but this branch of the Blood War was going to.

The forces of the Blood God now dwindle and dwindle, all the Lesser Daemons have been banished back to their hellish realm, their furious voices could still be heard, even them promising vengeance upon the ones that had banished them, the cultists died as they lived pathetically begging their god to save them as the undead tore them apart limb from limb.

The Warriors died with booming laughter on their throats, for this is what any self-respecting warrior would want, a truly glorious death, with thousands of bodies of their enemies on the ground. Even as they fell, they still held their weapons.

Khazhoc screamed in pure rage, as he saw plans unveil right in front of him. This wasn't what happened, the servants of the false god should have fallen beneath his spear, this wasn't what was meant-

Khazhoc felt a searing pain in his chest, causing him to look down and facing the black blade of his enemy.

Khazhoc screamed not in anger but in the purest form of hatred imaginable to any sentient being, as he felt his essence- no everything that composed and made him who he was, break and shatter.

All bared witness, as something that should have been there when the stars finally blinked out, met its ‌ultimate end.

In a storm of light and darkness, Khazhoc The Vermillion Knight, lord of the 887th Horde of the First Blood Host, ceased to be. And all of his power was consumed by Lightbane, Exalted of Dracul.

The necromancers with wide eyes as the form of the daemon disappeared. As practitioners of magic, they were more in tune with Aether more than normal beings could ever hope, or dare, to become. And that's why they saw what had actually happened with their witch sight, the servant of their lord, had not made the daemon met a True Death, but had converted its energy into pure soul, free of any taint belonging to Chaos, it was a procedure so daunting that not even the mightiest of mages would have tried.

So seeing the servant of their lord doing it so casually was humbling, as it was awe-inspiring to them.

Lightbane soon took off, shaking his wings with sufficient strength to lift his gigantic body from the ground. His creator had given him a direction, and he would follow it.

Soon, the Necromancers could only see a tiny dark spot on the horizon, and after that, nothing.

Shaking off their awe, the Necromancers quickly got to work. Considering all the destroyed undead, they attempted to raise the dead warriors and cultists back to life as a fresh new batch of undead. Key word here being attempted.

Every time they converged to raise the dead servants of chaos back to their new unlife, their power was rebuffed. No matter how many times they tried, they simply couldn't. The Chaos Gods would no longer allow their servants to rise again without their hand in the process, it seemed. Which complicated things more than they needed to.

But things got even more complicated when they got news.

The battle for the Crags of Shargun was finished, and chaos had won.

Round 2

Army of the Dead: 3d200 + 70 (Bonuses) + 15 (Augment Spells) + 200 (@AncientOne) = 428

Legions of Khorne: 3d200 + 40 (Minor Daemons of Khorne) + 25 (Daemon) + 20 (Blessing of Khorne) = 414

well fuck, time to march south it seems...got to fix the god-damn mess that the forces of order left beheind. Hopefully we can raise armies from forgotten dead battle-fields and long dead tombs that no one will miss.

also why the fuck would the chaos gods even CARE about their mortal followers? Thing is they dont actually give a fuck, and for khorne its doubly so for the worthless shits that begged him for aid. If anything he represents self sufficiency and survival.

also the undead that were killed by the warriors of chaos are basically CHAFF, as in worthless skulls barely even considered worthless.

hope they are getting their actual reward of "Oh fuck" moment in the realm of chaos when daemons feed on them screaming in horror.

but still, while this is problematic, just means we need to develop more shit for the next show down, and gain far more power as well.

Edited: also welcome back Alucard!

The warriors died in battle which made their own skulls worthy of being added to the skull throne. Nothing else matters to these wackjobs. Khorne cares not where his skulls come from only that they died in honorable (by his standards) combat.

They don't with the exception of Nurgle. Most see their mortal followers as property and refuse to allow anyone to tamper with them. That they ended their lives so patheticly just means they answer to their God's punishment. As for their corpses, that has more to due with the Chaos energy infused within their bodies not playing well with anything including necromancy than deliberate action on the Gods parts.

makes sense...all well, just going to have to get strong enough we can ritually fuck over chaos whenever we can.

otherwise next step to hit chaos in the back-lines...heres to hoping the battle's go well for us and we can raise more forgotten battle-grounds.

GM Note: After (I think) four months, I can officially say that this quest is back, and will receive weekly updates, and yes, I will threadmark all the things that I missed. Just give me some time.

@Alucard Vampiry

Couldn't they resurrect the undead they already had? That is supposed to be one of the strengths of the undead. The ability to keep coming back so long as there is magic.
The casualties count only the undead there were too destroyed to actually serve as combatants in a battle. And so were discarded. This also helps the constant mental strain all the Necromancers suffer by keeping millions of undead from simply crumbling, even if they are already accustomed to that.

going to need more necromancers/liches and eventually wrights/wright lords...maybe...hmmm...

anyway, when we get back to the main turns getting the magic academy up and running to catalogue all magic from hedge magic to necromancy will help us get more mages in the future.

let's not also forget that eventually need to revamp our military so we don't just have swordsmen...going to need to go all in multiple actions to get things done. Also, a navy, desperately need a navy as well as trade goods.

edited: also, i have a idea for a Great sword in the future, and yes this is inspired by Frost-Mourne and Shadow-Mourne.

Once we are done with this war, i want us to takeover The Vaults as its the only free region left to take in the Old world and give us a way into the Border Princes

It is not that they actually care for their playthings; they are just doing this to block you from getting more troops from the corpses of their followers. Mostly because they see you making their followers into undead as you stealing from them, and so they had infused their worshippers' bodies with the right amount of chaos energy so that when a necromancer would try to resurrect them as undead, the two energies would cancel each other out.

Keep in mind that they never attempted this because they were was never a necromancer as powerful as you, with the clear exception of Nagash and even he is not that powerful, just a Quasi-God that while still powerful, pales before the might of a true god.

let them Chaos gods wasted there power with putting into there worshippers' bodies, its better for us as they wont spend that power somewhere else

The power they put in their followers doesn't even count as one percent. It is so infinitely small they will never feel any type of strain upon their power, and if you think that's unfair, think about this:

The creation of daemon comes from the fact that the chaos gods rip pieces of themselves and mold them into their daemons, which considering the number of daemons (even the ones present in Fantasy), means that the Chaos Gods were all never in their hypothetical full power, so everything they do in both 40k and Fantasy they did without their full strength.

You have a long way to go before you can match that.

When we get back to normal turns can my tech omakes be brought up in research?
Yes.

Quote of the day: Lives are the Emperor's currency. Spend them wisely.

Shrine Worlds: No place outside of Holy Terra is more holy than these worlds. Planets dedicated to a single purpose for the Imperium. Worlds utterly controlled by the grand church. These exist to venerate the great saints of the Imperium and by extension the Emperor himself. These places are the center of spirituality across the Imperium. Their surfaces dotted with great shrines, churches, and monuments in the same way gives cover hive worlds. It may be that these places saw the birth of a famous Imperial saint or formed the battleground for a particularly important war in the Imperium's history. The inhabitants willing to lay down their lives for the Emperor at a moment's notice.

Midnight worlds however do so significantly differently. The founding of them is largely the same. Though they are more often converted from the imperial standard due to corruption or treachery. These planets share the universal traits of their kind. The eternal nighttime and the lowered temperatures. As well as the radical difference in architectures and the incorporation of blasphemous hextech and sorcery across their surfaces. In addition to an untiring workforce and the widespread use of black magics.

The Dark Shrines of the dragon are grievous insults to the Imperium. A twisted mockery in the same way the Chaos shrine worlds are. Often times they have been corrupted from within and without. Either subverted for some men are simply weak enough to fall to heresy or by armed invasion. In the latter case the defenders fighting bravely to defend their world though they ultimately failed. Such as the orders of the Sororitas.

Under the dragon's rule these worlds are nightmarish places for good men. Vast black monuments rising high into the sky. The very ground pulsing with loathsome energy across and well below the surface. Dark cathedrals covered in wicked runes and symbols of shadow and death. Every building constructed in a specific way to please their master. Great arrays of sorcerous circles and crystals arranged just so. All working to amplify the dark powers of their god on the materium.

On these worlds the dragon's power is keenly felt. After all the veil wears thin here. Shadows run long and heavy despite the constant night or time. Runes seem to shift and twist when you don't look at them. The dead rise up without any prompting from psykers. Ghostly flames emerge from sconces and candles. Worst of all daemons of Dracul manifest freely here. The stuff of nightmares emerging to enforce their master's will or attaching themselves to outgoing forces.

It is on these worlds the daemons of the dragon pour forth in the greatest quantities. It is here the worst of the dark magics are crafted. Where the sorcerers in the dark god's service are most powerful. Here daemons march forth to join the dark hosts.

The orbit and underground of these worlds are also built up. Long range orbital weapons sitting and scanning at all times. Ship yards servicing fleets and building new ones. Defense platforms standing guard at all times. Entire moons often converted into large scale defenses for their parent planet.

The underground is filled with sorcerous workings. Great altars drenched in fresh blood from frequent sacrifices. Carpets of Slimes to help produce power ful forces to defend them. Great chambers dedicated to the craft of dark magic.

These worlds must be destroyed. They are blights upon reality as we know it. A glaring insult to the Emperor himself.

Quote of the day: Lives are the Emperor's currency. Spend them wisely.

The Burned: These entities are by nature similar to the Tormented and the Chilled. Almost pitiable in their nature, but at the same time highly dangerous. These simmering apparitions fly through the air heading towards their victims. They function in much the same way as the aforementioned ghosts. Acting as a way to terrorize good Emperor worshipping people and creating havoc. Reaping the lives of the good people and sabotaging anything it can get its hands on. Difficult to deal with on the battlefield and in the right environment near unstoppable. They are something to be very wary of.

They take the form of those they were in life. Though it is hard to recognize if you knew it. It's spectral flesh is twisted in to a charred puppet of what it was. Stained a deep charred black with angry red inflammation covering it's form. Specks of charred meat falling off its form as it goes. Steam wafting off it's body when in contact with water or just moisture in general. Smoke and ash left behind its wake. Anything flammable igniting in their presence.

These are those who were tormented with great. Either trapped in sorcerous flames. Burned alive in enclosed chambers. Or drenched in plasma while being kept alive with sorcery. Until all they know is the burning agony.

Upon death dark rites are enacted. The spirit drawn forth and entrapped in that same horrible eat. Made even worse by their magics. Driving them in to a desperate frenzy for any kind of relief from their misery. Then corralling that craving to serve their cause. Sending them out with the legions to terrorize the living.

Flying through walls and the air to reach their victims. At times going completely unnoticed save for their special abilities. These monsters boast the same arsenal of the other spectral undead. The usual package of flight, intangibility, and invisibility. It is however their most dangerous powers that make them such a terror. Abilities born through the dark magics that they endured in life and death along with circumstances of their death.

Wax seals melt and run. Prayer strips ignite in their aura. Soldiers will be literally baked in their armor. The slightest touch by the creature's hands causing three degree burns. Machines overheating and breaking down. With metal at close range melting into the flesh of those with cybernetics.

More powerful specimens leave rivers of molten metal behind them. Entire vehicles reduced to molten slag. Tank armor rendered no better than wax in their presence.

These creatures have reduced weaknesses compared to others of their kind. It takes especially holy ground and materials to repel them. Like that of a revered saint. Symbols seem to do nothing, but anger them. Excorcisms even if successful are likely to kill or seriously exhaust the psyker. Fire predictably fails to have any effect. Predictably the Sororitas loathe these creatures.

Particularly potent blessed arms must be used to best them. Otherwise they will devastate entire regiments at a time.

War rolls.

Say would it be possible to make something like Dragonspawn and Drakonid to serve the dragons and our MC?
Read their pages, and considering that they are just a dragon werebeast, and since there are examples where a human can turn into a bestial form through magic (sometimes permanent), and that gods in Warhammer can cause severe changes in a humanoid and non-humanoid beings...

Yes, you can, but it is going to take a bit of time and effort.

Well when we get the time we should do it, give the dragons an our MC very Loyal minons

Also after we are done with this Chaos invasion, think we should take our undead army and go and purge Norsca, they lost a big army in Bretonnia and many more would have join up with this Chaos invasion

Well we might be weakened from that effort, don't sell us short but we're a minor god against insane greater gods.
