Green Sun, Black Shadows (CG/Exalted)

Hmm.
Hey, he's supposed to be 17 at this point in time, so until his birthday, he can use Oramus's Excellency for everything he's involved in!
Sadly 17 it's not a multiply of 7 so it doesn't count :p

This could definitely use some improvements. Some ideas.
1. For what it does right now, the mote cost does seem too high. The cost could be decreased, or if you wanted to go further make it a Permanent Charm, though in that case you're going to want a roll off to see if it succeeds.

2. Should be yards rather than feet, just to be standardized with other Charms regarding distance. Then again, it could be made so distance is irrelevant - it often isn't, when it comes to Oramus.

3. Nothing regarding what happens when the flash of impossible nightmares is given - do they fall to their knees as pain wracks their brain, or what?
I thought about the third point, remembered those:
Words that Twist Like Daggers
Cost: 2m; Mins: Essence 2; Type: Supplemental
Keywords: Combo-OK, Shaping, Sorcerous
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: None

Those who talk with Oramus do so as gingerly as those who once warred against him, for it is in the nature of the Impossible Dragon to spread madness like the clouds spread rain. A social attack supplemented by this Charm becomes unnatural mental influence. If the target of the Infernal's social attack does not successfully resist the attack, the Infernal may choose to impose a Derangement of the Infernal's choice on the target in addition to any other effects of the successful social attack. This Derangement lasts until the end of the scene. At Essence 4, the Derangement can become permanent as a Desecration effect at the Infernal's discretion if the Infernal successfully attacks the target with this Charm a number of times in the scene equal to the bonus point value of the Derangement in question; the Derangement is still temporarily imposed upon the first successful use of this Charm in a Scene, and subsequent uses simply build towards the Derangement's permanence.

As the Infernal increases in power, this Charm becomes even more fearsome. At permanent Essence 5, the number of successful attacks required to impose a Derangement are halved (rounding down). Finally, at permanent Essence 7, the Charm becomes permanent and automatically supplements all of the Infernal's social attacks at no cost, regardless of whether the Infernal desires this effect or not.

Soothing Balm of Insanity
Cost: 1m; Mins: Essence 2; Type: Reflexive (Step 2)
Keywords: Combo-OK
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite Charms: Words that Twist Like Daggers

The changeability of Oramus' perspective was a byword among his Primordial brethren; he seemed to be a veritable kaleidoscope of madness. The Infernal may activate this Charm in response to any successful social attack or mental influence. The Infernal perfectly parries the successful attack. The Infernal then imposes a Derangement on herself with a bonus point value that is equal to or greater than the amount of Willpower that would have been required to cancel the attack's effects; a Derangement that qualifies as a Deformity will substitute for any amount of Willpower. This Derangement remains for the rest of the Scene. The Infernal cannot impose a Derangement on herself that she already has; if that is the only option, this Charm fails. However, the Infernal can re-impose a Partial Limit Break Virtue Flaw, which then becomes the fully-uncontrolled version.
What do you think about making so the target is affected by a Derangement (which is Oramus' stick: seriously, did he create the Limit Break as a rule of nature?), with bonus point value that is equal to or smaller than the amount of Willpower that the Infernal spent to cancel the attack's effects? With Exalts and other beings with a Limit Track it can also add Limit Points. What kind of roll would be required?

Insane Graceful Movements is good as is, IMO. Speeches are included in Performance, and we'll be making those aplenty, which means we can use this on entire crowds of people.

Horror And Beauty As One... well, it's powerful, but I just can't really see it as being useful as a permanent effect that makes Insane Graceful Movements better because then you can't use Insane Graceful Movements on most allies - sure, people will revere you, but they'll also be terrified of you, which isn't really the type of image I can see most people wanting to project towards friendlies. It becomes something you'd want to use on enemies exclusively, maybe. Two ways I can see changing this...
1. Make Horror and Beauty as one a supplemental Charm that you can spend an extra mote or two to activate when activating Insane Graceful Movements. This would make it malleable enough to not overly cripple Insane Graceful Movements being useful in many situations. The dual intimacies of reverence and terror are kind of useful when dealing with certain sorts of people.

2. Keep it permanent, but change the duality of the Charm somewhat. When Insane Graceful Movements is used, those witnessing it who are positively predisposed towards the Infernal gain the reverence Intimacy and those who are negatively predisposed the terror Intimacy. For those who don't have an existing positive or negative Intimacy, it would be up to the storyteller to determine which way it goes. I think this might be fitting. Those who love the impossible come to revere it, and those who hate it come to fear it. The fascination and obsession caused by other Charms fit the themes of madness - fascination and obsession both affect other Intimacies in ways that stoke madness.

Two examples from each side of things:
- Lelouch has Dual Gaze Paradox and due to this Shirley has become both fascinated and obsessed with Lelouch on top of being in love with him. She's been stalking him for some time. Unknown to Lelouch, she witnesses him using Insane Graceful Movements a few times and gains a strong Intimacy of reverence towards him as well. Now she sees him not only as a fascinating man who she loves obsessively, but as a god-like figure. She'll do anything he wants, pretty much.
- Two enemies of Lelouch witness him using Insane Graceful Movements. Both become terrified of him. One is weak willed and insignificant, and goes completely mad out of his fear and obsession with Lelouch, self-destructing and being thrown into a mental institution. The other is a Sidereal with significant willpower. He's fascinated, obsessed, and utterly terrified of Lelouch. Because of his terror, he can't operate openly against Lelouch at all for risk of discovery because by the Fates Lelouch is scary and he wouldn't want Lelouch finding out. So he goes into hiding. He operates carefully from behind the scenes, doing everything in his power to avoid discovery. He put all his efforts into destroying Lelouch because he doesn't want to be terrified. Eventually he might get over the terror Intimacy and decide he's been being stupid/crazy, but maybe not. Whether Lelouch can end up dealing with whatever the Sidereal ends up doing or not... *shrug*

Doing it that way would be great for building up a cult and making super loyal allies who think mainly of your needs and wants, but also either drive enemies crazy with fear or make them take secretive actions against you.
Ooooh, I like it! Approved!

That's kind of what I though that Glimpsed Through A Warmed Mirror does - temporarily makes you into an alternate reality version of yourself with the correct attributes, abilities, and possibly Charms. (though you'd be without your normal Charms for the duration, of course) It doesn't explicitly say that, but I can't really imagine it being worth 14m, 2wp if it's only an illusion.
Does this mean that Lelouch can, for a scene, become any type of Exalt he wants? I hope so :p

I can't really comment on this one as I'm not sure what's unbalanced about it, especially given the high cost, aside from maybe the Behemoth summoning.
Never mind, I found some inspiration from homebrew Hegra Charms. Craft Genesis or something.

Agreed. Loom-Snarling Deception works functionally like this, and the only advantages this really has is that it costs a lot of Willpower to see through it and that it costs less at low Essence and is free in the Wyld. Ultimately there's no need to take both, and they function too similarly really.

One way to change this would be to make it apply to other people instead. What Is and What Should Never Be affects the perception/awareness of the Infernal, so this could let the Infernal impose an illusory form on others, be they allies or enemies. Maybe targets have to be and stay in (Essence) yards of the Infernal, and outside the Wyld the Charm requires motes to be committed rather than spent so as to maintain an illusion. Maybe max out the number of illusions possible at once to be seven, so you can't just cause infinite illusions when in the Wyld.
That would be very helpful.
Hmmm... wonder who it could be? Can't be someone with a Geass, so Mao is out.

Nina, maybe? It only takes the slightest kindness from Euphemia for her to becomes totally attached to her and revering her as her goddess, but on the flip side she can't seem to let go of her dislike of Elevens due to whatever happened to her to cause that.

The other candidate I might think of is Diethard, given he tends to obsess, but I'm not really sure he's suited to Kimbery.
Actually Mao is one of the candidates for Scourge. When I said that Exaltation and Geass are incompatible, is that a person can't have both: a person with Geass than Exalt will lose Geass, and an Exalt cannot acquired Geass.

Hmm.
I wonder if Vilette might not be coming back as a ghost of some sort.
She may or may not.

Oh cool, we're doing this again. Hi Alex.
Hi Dawn! Actually this is not my first Exalt Lelouch, but I was inexperienced back then and didn't end well. Now I am experienced enough, and thought that Lulu fits Infernals a lot more.

Inflicting a Derangement would work, yeah. Not sure about the roll - this seems like a perfect counterattack to me (can't be parried except by applicable Charms) so the roll off would probably have to be depend on

Ooooh, I like it! Approved!

The permanent version, I assume.

Does this mean that Lelouch can, for a scene, become any type of Exalt he wants? I hope so :p

Hypothetically? Sure. He could be a Geass user as well.

Never mind, I found some inspiration from homebrew Hegra Charms. Craft Genesis or something.

Neato. I look forward to how you fix up the charm.

That would be very helpful.

Yes it would. And I imagine the various Solars back in the day thought it was very annoying when their allies appeared to be enemies.

Actually Mao is one of the candidates for Scourge. When I said that Exaltation and Geass are incompatible, is that a person can't have both: a person with Geass than Exalt will lose Geass, and an Exalt cannot acquired Geass.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I suppose that makes sense - as if something like Geass could stop the might of an Exaltation from taking what it wants.

Though Mao's reason for obsessing of C.C. takes a major hit if he Exalts - he gets to enjoy peace and quiet in his mind all the time. He might still be obsessed for a while though, so if C.C. hangs around us (she might, if only as an opportunity to look for a candidate [mind you, with Lelouch no longer an option she might go for Marianne's other child...]) then we'll have to deal with that in some fashion, though Mao could just hang around too given that he would no longer need to go live in some isolated place to get away from people's thoughts... actually, he's 17, enroll him and put him in the Student Council. He and Milly would probably get along fabulously.

And of course there's always something else she could come back as... Abyssal

Horror And Beauty As One
Cost: -; Mins: Essence 3; Type: Permanent
Keywords: None
Duration: Permanent
Prerequisite Charms: Insane Graceful Movements

The beauty of Oramus is found in his horror and his horror in his beauty. Those who realize the truth of this mad duality can only feel worshipful awe or unbridled dread. This Charm permanently upgrades Insane Graceful Movements: it causes in those watching an Emotion effect to build an Intimacy towards the Infernal as they see disturbing, uncanny flashes of alien terror and beauty in her movements. For those who are positively predisposed towards the warlock the Intimacy built is one of reverence, and for those negatively predisposed the Initimacy is one of horror. For those affected who have no prior Intimacy towards the Infernal it is up to the storyteller to decide which Intimacy being built is appropriate.

but Nunnally's eyes were sealed by Charles geass....which C.C. can overcome.

Shit.

Neat. Could you add a +2m, 1wp surcharge to activate Horror and Beauty as One?

I would have suggested Abyssal, but I thought you needed a body to do that.
Yes. Still, even as a ghost she could do something...

Well, this will be all kinds of hilarious, I just know it. Lelouch will burn the whole damn world to the ground at this rate :p

Also, why do I suspect that Charles might be packing something more than just Geass this time around?

Neat. Could you add a +2m, 1wp surcharge to activate Horror and Beauty as One?

I can, but that would make it not a Permanent Charm unless you're increasing the cost of Insane Graceful Movements permanently. Horror and Beauty as One as a Permanent Charm makes it so you get the effect for good or for ill - you don't get a choice in the matter of activating the effect or not. It's like the Rapacious Delicacy Summons addition to Locus Mana Plague. That'll cause your locusts to eat all foodstuffs in the summon radius, whether you want it to or not.

And it should be considered that unlike for Beautiful In My Way there is no ability to provide a defense for allies with Insane Graceful Movements with or without Horror And Beauty As One.

You might just want to increase the cost of Insane Graceful Movements in general instead considering that A) it is applicable to crowds, B) it lasts for an entire scene, and C) for that scene every last one of your Performance based social attacks (which includes speeches) becomes an Unnatural Mental Influence. Maybe back to 7m, 1wp, or just to 5m, 1 wp given that this is what the cost would be with Horror and Beauty as One would be anyways if you're going this route.

Alright. Then make so Horror and Beauty As One is a Permanent Charm, with the cost to activate Insane Graceful Movement being increased from "3m" to "5m, 1wp". This should be balanced.

Sadly for parental motives (read: rented DVD) I can't write the update today. See you all tomorrow morning.

Good news! The DVD doesn't work so no film today...actually that's kind of a pity. But I can update now.

Rolling the second Intelligence+War: 1d10=4, 1d10=2, 1d10=1, 1d10=3, 1d10=5, 1d10=6, 1d10=2, 1d10=2, 1d10=9, 1d10=5, 1d10=4, 1d10=1, 1d10=10, 1d10=3

Using Second Oramus Excellency: -2m, +1 success

Total: 4 successes

Rolling Wits+War as per Tactical Instincts: 1d10=1, 1d10=2, 1d10=9, 1d10=5, 1d10=9, 1d10=7, 1d10=2, 1d10=4, 1d10=1

Total: 3 successes. Result: 3/3 bonus dice

Writing now...

6 successes in 23 dice, wow the luck fairies took their toll this time.

Hopefuly it will be enough.

Edit: Wait, 14 dice in war+int? We have int 4+War 4+Speciality 2 +2 Stunt dice=12. So where do the last 2 dice come from?

Wow, that initial roll didn't go very well at all. Good thing we've got the Excellency to bullshit our way to success.

Not really (well, for mortals, each success is quite significant, but not in the scale we are playing). Note though that we didn't really use the excellency at it's fullest, we can get 4 extra auto-successes if we pay the price. (The max is our base Atribute+Ability pool/2)

(Excellencies are pretty mote intensive, though, other charms are usually much more efficient, essence wise)

For comparison, a profesional (Say, a trained doctor) usually have pools around 6-8, with an average number of successes of 3-4.

[X] Zero

Zero. Empty, yet it holds within itself infinite possibilities. What a paradox. And it's exactly what best define you: someone who was nothing, just another powerless fool in a cruel world, and yet now you feel - no, you know there is nothing you can't do!

"You can call me Zero." You reply.

"Zero? As in, nothing?"

You chuckle. "You really think it's prudent to use real names on a line that could be monitored? That's why I am going to give all of you code names."

Once everyone has memorized their chosen designation you lead them to the other Sutherlands before driving off. Reaching what must have once been a multi-story parking lot you use the Slash Harkens to reach the highest level. Once there you smash the Knightmare's fists through a section of wall and pulled it in, creating the perfect vantage point to observe the combat.

Checking the IFF sensor display you find the nearest enemy units and direct seven of your own to a good ambush point. "Be ready to shoot through the wall on your left in twenty-three seconds."

From the shadows you coordinate the terrorists' counterattack. Watching the map in the Sutherland's cockpit, you saw the Britannian Knightmares followed the predicted route. The fire from six of the captured Sutherlands' guns blew through the wall and smashed into to the enemy Knightmare Frames, destroying them in one swift move.

The sole survivor had the good fortune to only lose an arm. "What!? You dare attack your own? Jeremiah Gottwald of the Purebloods demands you answer for this!" A Pureblood uh? Just the kind of noble you hate the most.

As he brought his gun to bear on his attackers, you grin. "Q-1, oblige the man."

"Gladly!" your seventh ambusher responds, quickly turning a corner in her Sutherland and charging the enemy. "Nippon, BANZAI!"

"Terrorists!?" The enemy barely manages to eject before a stun tonfa crushes the head of his Knightmare.

'The identification signal is truly a double-edged sword'. Twirling the black king chess piece found earlier you can't help but grin at how easy this is revealing to be.

"Don't get distracted Boss." Seyrun warns you. "The battle doesn't end until all the enemies are dead, chained down or routed."

'Mh, you're right.' Failing out of overconfidence would be extremely...irritating. You contact the terrorist - no, your troops again. "I hope that was enough to remove all remaining doubts. P1, P4, P7: move an hundred meters to the right and fire the Slash Harkens on three o'clock. Q-1, R-1 I want you two to..."

{====}

Either Clovis likes to employ utterly incompetent military advisors, or he's commanding the troops himself. You propend for the second.

"Q-1, is your map accurate?"

"Yes, the one for the old city." The redhead girl replies. You need to keep an eye on her, the skills to pilot a Knightmare Frame she displayed before will be useful in the future. "But it's one based on how it looked originally."

"Good enough." You grin.

You guide her through the underground tunnels, right under where all the remaining enemy units were gathering. "Bring down the central pillar."

Q-1 follows your order before retreating into safety. You see both on the screen and through the Factsphere how the concrete cracks and the ground above crumbles under the combined weight of so many Knightmares, tanks, and APCs.

You can't help it: you let out a short, cruel laugh. "I can do it! I can really do it! I can destroy Britannia!"

"Sorry to burst your bubble, but you will need a bigger army first. A much, much bigger army."

'That's obvious. Now hush, I need to concentrate.' By this point Clovis is going to be desperate, and desperate men can react in unexpected ways.

"This is B group. Enemy sighted!"

'Here it is.' You answer the call. "What's the situation?"

"Everyone escaped, but four frames were lost!"

"Number of enemies?"

"Only one!" The hand fidgeting with the chess piece stops moving. "It looks like a new model. I never saw that type bef-Aaargh!"

"Hey! What happened?" But no one answers. He must have been defeated. Still, only one machine destroyed five of your frames when an entire army couldn't?

"Quality over quantity Boss. It's possible they are facing someone much stronger than the rest, and I'm betting a cigar those guys you recruited don't have the necessary training to efficiently react to an incognita."

That...is sadly the truth. Your troops are kept going only by enthusiasm and your tactics. Ergo, you can't expect them to be competent...yet.

You raise a hand and gesture forward with your index finger. "Go kill the pilot of that new model."

A faint feeling of something ethereal brushing against your arm is the sole signal that one of your really competent subordinates is obeying your command.

You then direct three Sutherlands to ambush the new model, so that they can keep it busy when the spider does your job. It doesn't take long for the trap to spring up. Sadly, it doesn't go as you wished.

"What? It can blocks bullets?"

"Yeah, some kind of energy shield. What should we do? No, Ishidaaa-!"

"Tch!" You scowl as more of your Sutherlands do down. "Just how useless are those guys? Whatever, it should be almost done by now."

But the mysterious Knightmare doesn't stop. He keeps going, taking down three more frames.

'Seyrun!'

"Something's not right." He mumbles.

Someone knocks desperately on your cockpit. Opening it you see it's one of the spiders, probably the one you sent. "Boss we have a problem! I couldn't enter!"

"What. Happened?"

"I waited for the target to show up, and when it stopped to defend I jumped straight where the pilot is! I didn't miss and I was dematerialized, but I bounced off the surface!" What? He couldn't pass through?

You hear Seyrun hiss. "Ask him if he recognized what material was. Quick!"

"Did you recognize what material it was?"

"I don't know, it was under the surface." He scratches his head. "I think I smelled crispy air, so maybe...Jade?"

"Boss! You need to run! Now!" Seyrun screams.

'Right when victory is almost mine? Never! What does he meant with Jade?'

"Jade is one of the five Magical Materials. They're used to make magical tools, and stronger than any other material in the world, even diamonds. Furthermore, spirits can't pass through them!"

'Wait. Are you saying-'

"That the one who build that thing know magic? Yes. That's why you need to retreat: it isn't wise to fight an enemy you know nothing about. That way lies death!"

Retreating. Just when victory is so close?

On the radio R-1 tells you two more have fallen.

Damn it all!

[] Keep fighting. You're sure you can find a way to reverse the odds.

Nice. Well, i guess is just logical. Too many things that can auto-destroy non-magical objects, you want your important things to be made of jade at least.

Now we need a well-designed retreat plan to minimize loses. Maybe one or two decoys to distract Suzie while we sneak to Clovis.

Better to keep incompetent Clovis in charge then have him replaced with someone who can actually do their job

Clovis has proven he can't stand against us; there's no need to throw away resources to get him now, when we can just ensure that our next engagement is more in our favor.
