offhand not saying to do this can you use the crown on more abstract things like an oath or would that use the person who made the oath? Circumstantial maybe?

from a doylist perspective we won't get exp if we don't do anything here I think.
I would assume unless your GM is an utter dipshit (and i dont think the author here is), then making the correct decision and standing back after thinking vs. jumping in just because you can wont get you punished because "you didnt act so no XP". (Assuming that is the correct decision, which im not sure).

eh more we can't really succeed or fail in the scenario we do nothing ergo we get nothing. We don't get exp every update after all its if we do something worthy of exp. Maybe if we hold ourselves back from murdering someone we really want to murder or close our mouth when we really don't want to.

For his part Mouse judges the couch a good place to jump onto, tongue lolling a little out of his mouth...
So how does the conditional invitation and threshold thing work with Mouse?

He's a dog, but he's also sapient and probably smarter than the average human. Did he get away without needing to make that promise, and enter with an implicit invitation, or would Mouse attacking if his own initiative count as Harry breaking his oath since he technically owns him in the eyes of mortals, despite being more like roommates?

We hold to them so strongly, but often that which we bind the tightest is the first that we lose. Look no further than the fair folk to see how very important the will behind the words is in any promise"
-[X] "So tell us, what exactly did you promise, and by what terms?" Molly says with an almost hungry smile. "You might find that fiends and fey are not alone in being free even within the tightest chains, or powerful despite even the greatest vows."

He can see the hell power, so we might as well lean into the act instead of trying to get him to believe we just happen to like the look.

Can we roll intimidate not to scare the guy, but to give the impression that we can in fact chew what we're planning to bite off?

we can probably convincingly play ourselves as some kind of very powerful demon of some kind given the swirling vortex of power puts us at least on the level of certain gods.

beautiful.

Edit: That said, @BronzeTongue; ye have inspired me and as such I have two suggestions, one I'm confident in and one I'm ambivalent about:

1: alone in being free even within the tightest chains -> alone in carving freedoms from the tightest chains
2: and none of this will be able to follow you home again -> now here I'm not sure. I mislike the 'will', as that is a promise. I'm not above having Molly lie to get what she wants, it depends on the context, and this fella easily falls into 'ok to lie to', but mayhap a softer sell of "we will see which of you chains can be broken or slipped through without cost" might fit better?

LOL, he's going to think we're a Denarian. 😈

Maybe, but there are a lot of things out there that could hold this sort of attitude which are more likely to hang out with the white council.

Regardless of what he thinks we are, I still think it should resonate. The man is a spirit binder with fey baggage. He should be intimately familiar with the problems with oaths, though he may not be used to thinking of them in terms of himself.

The play here is like that old thing about how nothing raises confidence like having someone who scares the shit out of you on your side for once. We're darth Vader offering to loan him a lightsaber, and to help him play with the cool sith shit that he hates having pointed his way.

People seem to love that kind of thing, if they think they can get away with it. Since our motive isn't suspicious relative to our presentation he shouldn't be more paranoid than his usual baseline towards us.

I can see where you're going with 1, but I prefer the current phrasing since we're talking about being free while being bound instead of directly breaking them.

As to 2, I wouldn't exactly call it a promise. We aren't a Sidhe after all, when mortals make promises they're specific about it. There's a reason whenever someone asks a wizard for their word they try to get them to directly swear by their magic.

It'd lose some punch if I made it wordier. Still maybe something like this would work.

I don't think the initial version was really a promise, but this is much more clearly a statement about why he should help us instead of a declaration about a future state.

What do you all think? I don't want to vote against my own plan without some feedback on the modifications.

too late and you'd lose some votes via making a new one. Also they'd have to be dumb to think we're a denarian we radiate too much power. Heck a naagloshii radiates more power than a denarian by a mile and we radiate more power than one of them by just as big a margin.

If he made a vow voluntarily that might be very hard to break, even with Exalted Power.

Maybe an adaption of Oath-Shattering Strike, but that has drawbacks.

Edit: If it's just a regular Curse, then a Wizard should be better with countermagic than an Exalted trying to solve the issue with pure metaphysical muscle.
A infernals have a power to let the dodge exlipse cast oaths, mortals have nothing on that. and B our ancient sorcery just wins, even the fallen can't stop the exorcism spell from ejecting them from a host. Countermagic will nosell all lesser magic, which is everything, even deathcurses.

Ancient Sorcery doesn't even have a Countermagic effect as far as I can see.

I've seen turnovers on shorter time frames than this before, so it's possible at least.

I don't think he'll believe we're a Denarian either, but it's worth noting that he probably has no real experience with them. It's not impossible for him to a make an incorrect assessment based on vague generalities; people do that sort of thing all the time.

I just think he's more likely to believe we're one of the more obscure nevernever creatures instead, because the white council doesn't like the Denarians and Harry is a known associate of the knights of the cross.

Even if it did I'm not sure I'd trust it with this.

It might be a perfect counter, but a curse like this is inside his body.

A Glock can obliterate a tumor, but shooting someone straight in the pancreas isn't a viable cure for pancreatic cancer. This could easily be the magic equivalent of that.

yes its possible on both things really so do watcha want I think its better to just keep whatcha got. Now for mistaking us for a denarian its as big a leap as assuming a random winter court sidhe is mab herself thats the difference of power we're talking about at a minimum. Denarians are still mortals the darkhallow radiated enough energy if cowl had succeeded word of jim he possibly could of killed mab. thats the level of power we're ALWAYS radiating. heck most powerful things aren't as blatantly as obvious radiating power at least not without true sight we are very blatant.

Pretty sure that's how our magic works on mortals.

Like using Exorcism on a Formori deal 10 lethal damage.

These spells were designed for Exalted and if a mortal's body can't stand up to them, that's their problem.
I suspect it would be very interesting and kinda messy if we tried to use something like that on a Fey Knight, Queen or Lady's Mantle.

You did read the part that we are drawing in power at about 5% of a Darkhallow and we are doing it more efficient and subtle, less destructivly due to not using some cobbled-together ritual but the perfect working of Autochton?

We are not looking like the Darkhallow and I for one am glad about that, because we would be mass-murdering mortals and spirits if we did.

note those mantles have to be occupied otherwise disasters happen the mantles are less the person and more described as an office. If their kept vacant an example for mabs being unclaimed it could cause the equivalent of a nuclear winter. Not that your suggesting its a good idea just something to mention/

oh well thats still more than a naagloshii radiates way way less insane than I thought though. good to know good in general really lol. Oh by the way word of jim the stuff that made mother, queen, and lady was similar to what the darkhallow does.
