Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Yeah, solo E5 Exalt with appropriate charmlist is roughly narratively matched to a 4th gen Ante.

A circle should destroy a single 3rd gen pretty comfortably, even if it is combat-specced.

Or a single minmaxed unholy abomination of a build that performs wildly above its supposed level. That sort of thing happens in this system occasionally, altho ExWoD is somewhat better balanced than Exalted. Or is supposed to be, anyway.

Honestly, I've seen the stats for Teddy, but I'm not familiar enough with the system to know how good they are.
Since his Perfect jobs to Holy, which is easy to use for Solars a Melee E5 Solar can relatively easily one turn Ebon with Golden Destruction Cut and dice stuff to just chunk his HLs, especially with multi attack Charm just melting him.

Especially if you use a Perfect Attack.

Though, yes, Ebon's speciality isnt fighting but trickery. Its still easily killing a Yozi though.

Actually, all this talk about killing things above their paygrade made me want to do something. Give me a sec whilst I'm figuring out a way to kill the Ebon Dragon with 2.5 Rules.

This is also a cautionary tale.

We may be a soak monster and huge at some point, but we can't soak Agg and if other Exalts turn up we may find ourselves chopped up instead. Especially via Holy.

Invest in City Still Stands people.

At the end of the day, I just don't feel like Demon Emperor fits the general aesthetic of the Dresden Files setting, you know?

It's a story of relatively small scaled beings with great power clashing against one another for dominance, about solving mysteries--both mundane and supernatural, where the biggest thing to show up is the Zombie T-Rex, which was almost as much a joke as it was a genuine danger.

Molly gaining a gigantic demon angel form might sound really cool, but it clashes horribly with the aesthetic and themes of the setting. A good fusion requires no side to just dominate the other, and "Also, I break the aesthetic once per story arc to become an eye melting manifestation of eldritch glory" sort of works against that.

Also funny thing about the Outer Gates, Solars have a Charm for that:
Hungry Tiger Technique (••)
When the Solar focuses all her attention on a single foe, her strikes become peerlessly deadly.
System: If the character takes no other actions during a turn save to attack a single opponent once, then count her extra successes twice for the purpose of determining damage.
Spend 1 Willpower to gain this benefit on an attack even if the Solar takes additional actions. Reflexively spend 1 Essence and 1 Willpower to gain this benefit on all attacks made during a turn.

Supernal Effect: When the Solar takes a moment to concentrate her skills and Essence into a blow, no mere object of the world may withstand it. The Solar never needs to roll to strike at an object with a bladed weapon, if she takes no other actions during that turn; her blow cleaves through the object as though it were made of mist, inflicting damage appropriate to the angle of her strike and the length of her blade. This effect has no regard for how hard an object is, or how strongly warded against damage by magic, though it will still only cut physical objects, not patterns of magic, the Gauntlet, or other 85 ephemera. Had the Solar Exalted been free in the world, one with this Supernal Effect could have cleaved open the Black Vault easily, paying no heed to its many wards or the now-impossible magical materials of its construction

Also funny thing about the Outer Gates, Solars have a Charm for that:
Abyssals also have a Charm for that:
Slashing Ghost Talon (••)
When the Abyssal focuses her killing intent on a single foe, there is no hope of survival.
System: If the character takes no other actions during a turn save to attack a single opponent once, then count her extra successes twice for the purpose of determining damage. Spend 1 Willpower to gain this benefit on an attack even if the Abyssal takes additional actions. Reflexively spend 1 Essence and 1 Willpower to gain this benefit on all attacks made during a turn.
Apocalyptic Effect: When the Abyssal takes a moment to concentrate her skills and Essence into a blow, no mere object of the world may withstand it. The Abyssal never needs to roll to strike at an object with a bladed weapon, if she takes no other actions during that turn; her blow cleaves through the object as though it were made of mist, inflicting damage appropriate to the angle of her strike and the length of her blade. This effect has no regard for how hard an object is, or how strongly warded against damage by magic, though it will still only cut physical objects, not patterns of magic, the Gauntlet, or other ephemera. Solaroids are bullshit.

I think an Infernal with Cracked Cell Circumvention can also just walk out of the Gates and open it that way.

Signature Effect: While the Infernal wears her
Shintai form, all doors, all gates, all portals and other
means of passage spring open at her approach, destroy-
ing their locks if they must in the process. No passage
is barred to her.
Infernals are also Solaroids, just a bit...hellish.

For Dresden's perspective that's true, but outside of his viewpoint there are plenty of mind-bending horrors in the setting, think back to Dresden's descriptions of Queen Maeve or Mother Winter when he gets a glimpse of their true nature.

The battles against the Outsiders and the 'Black Council' are also framed in a manner that's a fair bit above Dresden's perspective.

It's less that becoming a Demon Empress breaks the aesthetic of the setting and more that it will mean something of a transition. I reckon Molly will remain something that fits in with Dresden's adventures for a while whilst growing more into a her power, eventually growing beyond the street level of Chicago occasionally poking her head back in when Dresden feels a situation has got out of hand enough that it's worth asking Molly for help.

McAnally's Pub which is neutral ground not just between the magical factions of Chicago but the whole world though some pacts Harry says he does not have the time to get into. He calls it 'a good place to duck in for sanctuary'. Inwardly you think of it as a good place to meet people of all kinds safely.
Visiting McAnally's ought to be interesting given what the latest books imply about him. He might actually know about Exaltations.

Interesting theres no loyalty component in that charm by default.

Without demonic primacy of essence they dont really have much reason to listen to us unless we specify it.

That's pretty much taken care of by the 'form the core of a cult' part, the Exalt is the object of their worship so by default they're loyal to the Exalt.

You basically brainwash the targets into being warrior priests of you.

Kind of yeah, though sufficient ambition and/or desire to upend the status quo is also sin enough, see Journey to the West. Keep in mind also that the Hunger of a White Court Vampire is also incontestably a demon and one of those partook of the the Big Damn Heroes moment in peril of his life to try to get Molly out of Arctis Tor. Is living with a demon in your head always comfortable? No but absent the poisonous culture of the White Court there are ways to be an ethical demon host and so it could be with your servants

In fact, I'm really looking forward to this part where Molly starts recruiting, after all most beings that Dresden, and consequently we, encounter can be classified as demons or dark spirits, even though fairies are the most common.

I want to see situations where Molly, future Demon Empress and teenagers who care about boys, is ordering a White Court vampire/a fairy/fomori who hasn't changed in appearance etc while constantly reminding herself "they're servants, no trying dating" (even though I doubt any supernatural being who can feel her for what she is would try to enter a relationship without himself being an entirely different problem).

I want there to be situations where Molly's two identities impact and are felt together.

Yes, there is a Wicked City charm for that

Chirality Prohibition Index (•••)

The Infernal may lead a group of mortals or bakemono in a regimen of training, worship, and indoctrination, quickly forming them into a shape of her desiring and creating the nucleus of a cult.

System: During each day of training a group of mortals or bakemono, spend 1 Essence per acolyte. At the end of seven days of training, all students gain 30 experience points to spend raising their Physical Attributes, Manipulation, and Alertness, Brawl, Intimidation, Larceny, Melee, or Occult Abilities. No Ability can be raised higher than that of their Infernal instructor. This Charm can be used on the same acolytes repeatedly, but bestows only 20 experience points on subsequent training regimens. Any unspent experience is lost.
Completing a training regimen under this Charm makes the acolytes into creatures of darkness, if they were not already. Additionally, each course of training alters an acolyte's personality in the following fashion:
• After one course of training, he will grow to violently
despise one concept specified by the Infernal.
• After two courses of training, he will only speak
a selection of languages approved by the Infernal, and
will learn the primary language among this approved
list if he does not already speak it.
• After three courses of training, he will only wear a specific
uniform or style of clothing endorsed by the Infernal.
• After four courses of training, he will shun and
scrupulously avoid certain actions or modes of thought
proscribed by the Infernal.
• After five courses of training, he will adopt one obligation
he must regularly discharge, as defined by the Infernal.

Interesting theres no loyalty component in that charm by default.

Without demonic primacy of essence they dont really have much reason to listen to us unless we specify it.

Precisely, the Chirality Prohibition Index is actually about the Infernal denying certain choices to who will be trained and not making they have loyalty to him. I think the Council would be more nervous if we did that with the fact that after a single training regimen people would already be considered creatures of darkness, not that I think they will really do anything even if they find out, we are not part of their supervision after all and there are many, many others doing much worse to people than that.

The same situation goes with the Oath of One Hundred Devil Disciples, with in fact I think they would care even less since they demand that the people give an oath of allegiance to Molly, which all mages know to swear an oath of allegiance to a demons always have consequences. (Actually I prefer this one compared to the other one for a number of reasons, being that they have to swear loyalty to us as opposed to the other, they are not automatically transformed into creatures of darkness, which would be useful to act where our own nature difficult, unless we want to, and if we turn them into bakemonos, it will be without scenes as necessary to be drowned first)

Oath of One Hundred Devil Disciples (•••••)
By accepting a mortal's oaths of fealty and putting him through a dedicated training regimen, the Infernal can transform him into a fanatical killer, and eventually, a devil in his own right.
System: The Infernal may personally train any mortal who has sworn some sort of formal oath of loyalty to her. During each day of training such a disciple or group of disciples, spend 1 Essence per student. At the end of seven days of training, all students gain 30 experience points to spend raising their Physical Attributes, Wits, and Alertness, Archery, Athletics, Brawl, Melee, or Ride Abilities.
No Ability can be raised higher than that of their Infernal instructor. This Charm can be used on the same students repeatedly, but bestows only 20 experience points on subsequent training regimens. Any unspent experience is lost. Alternately, rather than bestowing 20 experience from a subsequent training regimen, the Infernal may instead infuse the wicked powers of Hell into them, transforming them into bakemono – a sort of monster that shapeshifters know as fomori. Rules for fomori can be found on pages 428-439 of W20.
The Infernal can continue to train her Devil Disciples after they have become bakemono, if she wishes.

Crap forgot to vote, not that it would have mattered.

We do not have an excellency in Atheletics so we are rolling 5 dice and hoping for the best, going manipulation would have been better as we roll 6 dice at base and can use an excellency.

Okay, maybe Sorcery/Hedge Magic is not quite as useless as I thought, due to this snippet:
Hedge Magic and the Chosen
The Exalted are capable of learning static magic either prior to or after Exaltation, if they have the Hedge Magic Merit (see Chapter Two). Knowing static magic does not prevent a person from Exalting as a Solar. Exalted hedge magicians don't and can't have Mana; they can use Essence in place of all of its functions
They can use Essence instead of Mana.
Now Mana can, by the Sorcerer rules, be used to lower the difficulty of all spells.

And we obviously have a shitload more Essence than even the greatest Sorcerer has Mana, because Sorcerers are little punks with a few tricks and we are the Heirs of Creation.

Combined with the fact that we should be able to use our Key to the Kingdom on most rolls involved, such as INT+Occult, we can rack up more successes than any mortal Sorcerer can dream of, and it might just become something useful, maybe.

I'm still not convinced that there's much in the Sorcerer-Paths that we can't get cheaper in Charms, but maybe Healing (which is rather thin for us), or Fortune (with which we could bless our allies for future fortune I think) might be at least worth a look?

Actually I wonder about the Sheol option now that you mention it.

Did it have Eternal Night in the plan? Since its a seperate "feature" you can buy I think.

Arc 0 Post 31: By Perilous Ways
By Perilous Ways

7th of July 2006 A.D.

Thump... thump... the ball goes against the floor of the gym as you look past your latest opponent, a girl with messy black braids called Beverly or Britney or something, then you dart past keeping your hand on the ball and your eye on the hoop, using her own lurking teammates as a way to keep her hand off the ball. Alright so you are showing off a bit, you admit as you score your sixth three point throw, but you are not stupid...

"Of course you would never be stupid Majestic Soul of the World," Usum chimes in at his usual place.

You have seen Teen Wolf and you would rather not bet on people being quite that dumb. Part of you wonders now if that movie was made by someone in the know and it was some kind of inside joke on how much most people will ignore, like a boy starting to turn into a werewolf on the basketball court.

"Good job out there Carpenter," Mrs Henderson says with a wide smile. Surrounded as you are by the rest of your team you cannot get out of the way of her back pat without pushing someone. The smile dies the moment she touches your ice cold skin.

"Thanks," you say with an awkward smile balanced on the knife's edge between gratitude and embarrassment. "I should really get warmed up, I have bad circulation I know..."

Mom had suggested not to rush to explain things, but this felt a bit too big to leave up to her to assume. Thankfully it seems to work. "Yeah yeah, you get that looked at you hear. And you need a better diet as well, you kids need to more greens in you and gummy bears don't count you hear?"

And with that she is off to the races on the 'you kids need to eat healthier' spiel that everyone had heart at least a hundred times before. Seeing your classmates zone out you are quite sure your secret is safe for now.

***

When you are about halfway home your phone goes off to a ringtone it had never played since you programed it, Black Sabbath's the Wizard. You feel your heart speeding up and you are very glad that you are relatively alone on the street. "Hi Harry," you reply.

"How did you know it was me?" he asks startled.

"Witchcraft," you joke... into dead silence. "Kidding, kidding, I have a ringtone."

"Ah...that's a phone thing right?" he sounds like you had taken a stone off his chest or something making you feel more than a little guilty. Maybe you could sit down with him one of these days and teach him about phones and computers the same way he taught you about magic. Ooh... maybe you could make him a magic cellphone.

"In the Wicked City there dwell many spirits with a love of mortal artifice and thence the hand of power reaches," Usum offers helpfully.

"Listen I got into contact with my old teacher Ebenezar McCoy, the one I told you about, but he doesn't have a lot of time to spare the war's heating out and the Council is about to get out of town so he said to meet him as he comes out of the Way at Fulton Market, do you know where that is...?"

While you are vaguely aware that it is some place west of the river you are not about to be late to the meeting with the busy senor wizard just to show off how good you are at finding your way around. You and Harry meet up not far from the where you are and then you follow his funny old Volkswagen Beetle up towards the Loop.

It's easy enough to find a parking spot, even on a Friday evening between the looming bulk of the old warehouses casting heavy shadows in the evening.

"They used to do a lot of meatpacking in here when I first moved in, but it's been wining down over the last few years, a lot of things have been like that," Harry says half to himself you think.

"Things change," you shrug, not sure why he sounds sad about it.

"So they do, but when the change leaves a lot of hollow places slowly rotting away like this things move in that love the dark and decay."

You nod, though the chill down the alleys does not trouble you nor the shadows make you jump. It seems like the thing to do as you wait for the elder wizard to come and decree your fate, or at least that he thinks should be your fate. You certainly aren't going to be bending your head for any swords.

We heal fast and regain a decent amount of Essence each day, I don't see the need for this, unless we get in high-intesity warfare and have to be ready to fight again within hours after a battle with the Red Court, or something like that.
