Crystalwatcher's Magical Girl Quest!

Is there somewhere where it's explicitly said there are only two Cores? You'd Think, given the title sharing, that there'd be a Juggernaut Core somewhere...

Thing is that so far they've come in sister pairs and we have no idea if Alex has a sister at all (Or at least I don't recall it being mentioned). Which would make finding them a bit difficult.

Edit:
Ah, that's a thing.

Nvidia Shield girl? Or gaming on Android devices with both exclusives and emulators?

Also on the topic of if this Alex had a sister:
"Alexandria Soft
January 1st, 1990 to December 31st, 2007
A loving daughter and close friend.
'May nothing stand before you in the next life, my juggernaut.'"
It says daughter and friend but not sister. If she had a sister this would almost certainly read something like:
Loving daughter, beloved sister, and close friend.

Will we witness Rev's reaction to hearing that that baka, Sega, got stabbed by Alexandria's spear?

Given that Nepgear just face-tanked one of the offensively strongest MGs alive and came out smiling: why?

Shouldn't this greatly decrease the level of worry from anyone who isn't her sister?
Because it just proves Nepgear is magnetic to bullshit amounts of damage and its possible the next one is actually big enough to crush her like a squeaky toy..

@Crystalwatcher - You've done a good job here capturing what it's like to watch the current #1 duke it out with the former #1. Goddess Gold is an unstoppable force of complete an utter destruction while White Soul is an untouchable ghost.
~snip~
Still I am amazed that Rei manged to capture White Soul alive somehow. Even we were planning on killing her and last we saw things Rei was kinda going off the deep end thanks to Gehaburn.
You and me both. I have no idea whatsoever how she managed to both knock White Soul out, and NOT evaporate her in the process, what with Oblivion Awaits. Seriously, Irene's health is a mere 6666, with triple that due to The 'Kind' Monster as an effective value... And especially with Walk With Me...

Which I now realize should be a terribly, terribly unfair mechanic for any attempts to kill her through massed fire.
It is a DAMAGE REFLECTION ability, damage which White Soul handily sidesteps by creating full-health versions of herself via Follow The Waves - but that should still affect those who try to kill her.

No retcons please!

Edit: Rei's Power Negation (or Mandate) probably helped here. So it's OK.

I don't think you answered me the last time I asked this @Crystalwatcher so I'll ask again: How exactly is taking damage with excess Health being modeled here in the soft mechanics? Because it seems odd to take actual physical damage when Nepgear's, and Sega's for that matter, Health hasn't actually dropped below, or anywhere near for that matter, her normal Maximum Health.
For Nepgear specifically, it doesn't matter too much save for the fact she still suffers from "this should hurt" or "this would break bones" when she doesn't have bones.

Otherwise it'd come out to something similar to requiring more force to break limbs that it would normally take.

I mean I'm not complaining about getting 1.5k XP for being flat out Indestructible but after our last mission we got XP for each Messenger that survived and for completing the mission:
I rolled all of the EXP you got for completing the mission into the 1,500. Didn't feel like measuring it all out for the differing aspects.

Actually, Judgement Core was around quite a bit earlier, at least according to SHIFT LOAD.

Huh. I was using Familiar's Timeline and it said two weeks. Which is backed up by Nepgear saying JC's only been around for two weeks:

So @Crystalwatcher must have made a mistake. Although it could just be that Michael was wrong about which Magical Girl saved him.
I actually have a good reason for never fixing that! But I'm not saying what it is.

Short of Rei herself fighting, there kind of isn't much in the way of bigger fish to take a swing at Nepgear...
Speaking as a sibling, as well as an uncle, I can personally tell you that even knowing "that won't hurt them" doesn't relieve the worry.

At all.

DAMMIT VEEKIE! :V

You know what this Thread has not seen for a while? Right, Omakes!
Omake: Core Cooldown

A calm evening... something was off, that much Rev could tell. She knew how things like that usually played out, especially with Sega around.

It had been about two hours since the Solid sisters headed out for another mission, but she was not particularly worried about them. Those two were literally too thick-headed to die, the younger sister even more so than the older one.

Speaking of, Rev snuck another glance at Uni and suppressed a sigh. Her own sibling was still lying on her bed and browsing on her Datamine; the girl was slowly getting over what happened earlier, but it would take at least the evening and a good night's rest before Rev could hope to see her smile again.

She ignored her own throbbing heart at the memories of people she lost during her career; one got used to it after a while and after Alex died... yes, Rev knew the feeling well. Which was why she could not show weakness in front of her sister, especially not now. She needed to be strong for Uni's sake.

One thing she was glad about was that they did not need to share space with anyone else; Magical Girls did get some amenities from serving, after all. Having some time to quietly recover from the shock should help.

It was about time for dinner, though. Rev wondered what to get for the two of them when agitated steps moved up towards their tent and someone burst inside without even knocking or any- of course it was Sega. Damned intuition...

A pretty haunted-looking Sega it was, with quivering lips and a somewhat exasperated looking sister trailing after her. The older Boheart just ignored Uni's surprised squeak and went straight into Rev's arms. "Reeev! I need huggles!"
Then she proceeded to push her backwards until the two sat on Rev's own bed, with Sega in her lap and curling up against her chest.

She could feel them, two sets of stares from two younger siblings. She felt her cheeks heat up in embarassment, but the indignation fought strong with concern over her girlfriend.

In the end, concern won out and Rev sighed heavily before giving Anastasia a pointed look, one hand on Sega's head and the other on her back. "Okay, I give. What happened?"

The younger sister sighed as well and, after an exchange of stares and a curt nod from Uni, went to sit on the opposite bed, next to her fellow Core... who was a lot more attentive now. "I, uh, I get why she is like that, really... but I still think she's overreacting a bit."

"You're so cruel, Ana! My poor heart can't take that much!"
And now Sega was being theatralical on purpose. Rev shook her head over the fact she could not even stay serious while being depressed... or whatever was going on here. She did not stop stroking her back, though.

"Anyway, uh... how to best say this... you know we went on another mission?"
Rev nodded slowly while Uni started rolling her eyes; hm, she could see her younger sister perk up a little, the distraction allowing her to focus on something else. "Oh let me guess, you did something incredible again?"

There was a healthy portion of sarcasm dripping from her words, which Rev approved of. Apparently, this really was the only way to bear with this family, no matter which one. Ana blushed a little and looked away. "So to speak, I guess. It's probably supposed to be a secret, but you two would find out tomorrow at the latest anyway. We went to retrieve the Old Guard today. Silver Hero, Grey Champion, Solar and Lunar Radiance... and White Soul, too."

The Sorts paused, both of them. Rev heard from Sega about the revival and seals... and maybe she told Uni about it just in case, not that anyone could prove she did it... and they both knew the Old Guard had been dead for years. Everyone knew.

If they were resurrected and bound to Goddess Red's command, then... "You fought the Old Guard."

Ana did not meet her gaze while Sega mock-whimpered and nuzzled closer to her. "Yes, pretty much. We had Red Rose with the team and Rei on the barricades, though."

That did not sound as bad, actually; either there was more, or her girlfriend was just exploiting the situation for some skinship. Not that Rev minded her, even though she would never admit that.

"That doesn't sound so bad", Uni mirrored her thoughts a moment later; she was talking slower than usually, obviously trying to not show her surprise at the fact Nepgear met one of her idols, Grey Champion. "So, which one did you fight? Silver Hero? Grey Champion?"

There was an eager edge over the second name, but Rev might as well have been the only one who heard it. Neither of the other girls knew Uni for long enough to tell. Ana, on her part, fidgeted while her sister squeezed tighter. "All of them! She fought all of them!"

Both Sorts raised eyebrows at the younger Boheart, who shrunk a little more and blushed; thinking about it, she was actually adorable like that.

"Actually... I kind of had to duel White Soul. Sega is still overreacting, though! I didn't get a single scratch from anything she did!"

Anastasia grew a little more convinced of herself as she spoke while, much to Rev's surprise, Uni rolled her eyes at the exclamation. "You know, it's not that impressive after what I saw you do earlier."

As much as her previous words failed to get a reaction out of them, Ana's next response was mumbled, barely audible to Rev. "And I might or might not have tanked Alex's spear..."

The moment she realised what those words meant, Rev's brain short-circuited to the point she just stared at the girl sitting opposite to her. What she just heard was not possible.

"Alex? Who is that?"
Of course Uni did not know, but... Sega answered before Rev got out of her stupor. "Alex, y'know? Our Alex. Big Alex."

And she groped her chest to emphasize the size-difference, the surprise over this action finally making Rev reboot and throwing off her girlfriend as she rose up. "You did what?!"
Uni flinched and leaned back while Ana fiddled with her thumbs. "Uh... I kind of took her spear to the face and survived... four times."

"Uh... I still don't... oh. Wait... wait."
Uni's eyes slowly widened as she pieced it together and turned, blanching almost as much as Rev probably did by now. "You're telling me you took a hit from Juggernaut Drive?"

"Y-Yes?"

Uni and Rev groaned in unison, the older sister falling back down on her bed and quickly picking up Sega again. Now she needed someone to hold onto. With Alex in the equation, her girlfriend's behaviour made a whole lot more sense.

"You... you're... I can't believe it, how does that kind of stuff keep on happening to you?! How are you still alive?"

Uni sounded as shocked as Rev felt. Ana, on the other hand, held up her hands at the tone and shrugged helplessly, her voice being almost as hysteric as Uni's. "Don't ask me, I'm too busy trying not to die to wonder why it's happening!"

Uni groaned again and shook her head a few times while Rev slowly raised a hand to rub her temple. That was a little much excitement... wait. If they fought Alex... then Alex should be...

"...You recovered her?"

She barely dared hoping, but the weak nod Sega gave between her chest was all the confirmation Rev needed to let out a breath of relief; her heart throbbed again before the pain turned into joy. Wetness stung in her eyes and she barely managed to blink the tears away. Stopping herself from jumping up and going to see Alex was even harder.

"Yes. She's still unconcious, though... and safe, too. The infirmary is guarded pretty well right now, with half a dozen Magical Girls in there."

She gave the younger girl a curt nod to acknowledge her reassurance -wondering when Anastasia learned to pick up Rev's tells like that- before letting out a sigh. "I guess that explains why Sega is so out of it. To pick a fight with Alex of all people... there is no one who survived a direct hit from her."

"She kind of mentioned that, too", Ana admitted with a sheepish look while her eyes flitted across the room, still unable to meet her gaze. The girl looked awfully happy -and maybe a little smug- about the whole thing. "Now the list of people that survived has two names on it. Sega got hit, too."

Now this news made her clutch the woman in her arms tighter. "You did what, Sega?"
Her girlfriend chuckled helplessly and shrugged against her. "Couldn't really help it, she ambushed us there."

Now her worry mixed with annoyance over Sega's attitude again and Rev barely stopped the sigh. She just squeezed some more instead and shook her head. "Just shut up."

Meanwhile, Ana was glancing from the two of them back to Uni, the silence between all of them growing a little more awkward after a minute or two passed... then she turned her head fully to the younger Sort. "Um... could I get a hug, too?"

Rev had to admit, she almost giggled at the luminous blush and Uni's sputtering. Sega actually did it when she finally answered: "Hmph, fine..."

Well, now that we're (probably) going home after a very productive day (thwarting effort to put a lid on one of our major operations, and putting a lid on one of theirs), we can review the current situation with XP, abilities and events.

First of all - we've been told, IIRC, that Goddess Red had been the cause of delay in opening the gate on the graveyard to evac the girls. Two things have me interested - what happened to the collected bodies of all the MGs once we left the location, and what was the situation exactly on the other side that caused the delay?

Second of all, apparently currently most if not all of the more esoteric abilities are locked out for plot reasons. I am currently an advocate of Save XP option, more or less, but as is, our options (1850 XP total) are limited to purchasing one or more of the following:

1) Flight LVL 28 (cost 270 XP, current option, 1580 XP remaining)
2) Purifier Beam, Celestial Severance, Starshine LVL 20 (540 XP each)
---We can't purchase all three of these, mind you. We're 40 XP short, currently.
3) Actually, we probably could push one of these to... 24, or 25 if we don't purchase Flight (1850-540-1100-270=-60)
---Celestial Severance will have 838'860'800 Damage at LVL 25 - or 0.8 billion. For reference, Goddess White's Planet Cracker spell has damage 20'000 (20'000'000) or 0.02 billion. 40 times less damage - and Goddess Gold's Oblivion Awaits has 10'000'000 - paired with Supremacy aka one of major defense reducing abilities.
4) INDESTRUCTIBLE CORE (currently at LVL 25, increments are 200 HP/100 Resilience)
---Can be raised to LVL 30 (250+260+270+280+290=1350 XP)

Again, I'd rather wait on our XP since we're probably doing the Pale Moon mission tomorrow.

P.S. Nice omake, @Naron!
Isn't it supposed to be "theatric", though? Or is it a Sega-esque trait to exaggerate the theatralicaliness?

Given that Nepgear just face-tanked one of the offensively strongest MGs alive and came out smiling: why?

Shouldn't this greatly decrease the level of worry from anyone who isn't her sister?

Nnnot quite. It's more like this should greatly decrease the level of worry from anyone who doesn't have a strong emotional connection to our Top Nep and/or isn't overprotective of her. Goddess Gold does not count in either category - don't forget that before we came along, she was completely and utterly bereft of anything resembling 'family.'

Hmmm... Actually...

-Operation Soul Collector Results-
Magical Girl White Soul: MVP Magical Girl Goddess Gold, Assist Solid Core (Invincible Tag Team Out)
Magical Girl Grey Champion: MVP Aquila, Assist Solid Core (Invincible Distraction, Core Connection)
Magical Girl Solar Radiance: MVP Red Rose, Assist Brilliant Key (Healing), Assist Solid Core (Finishing Move - Core Purge)
Magical Girl Lunar Radiance: MVP Red Rose, Assist Brilliant Key (Healing), Assist Lucky Star (Valuable Magic Trivia), Assist Solid Core (Finishing Move - Core Purge)
Magical Girl Silver Hero: MVP Michael, Assist Solid Core (Indestructible Core+Core Connection)
Magical Girl Juggernaut Drive: MVP Magical Girl Insight, Assist Solid Core (Face-Tank Extraordinaire), Assist Red Rose (Finishing Move - Clonk to the Head)

Hmmm. Well, we were a solid assist in this operation, and three of our supporters have proven their worth - but apparently we aren't really that good at non-lethal to serve as a true MVP of this one.

Well, putting it all in perspective, the devs weren't joking Red Rose would have been able to deal with everyone in this mission by herself or with Insight and Brilliant Key.

Magical Girl Juggernaut Drive: MVP Magical Girl Insight, Assist Solid Core
This is actually a bit debatable. Insight's Stun spell doesn't do any damage, which means that it can't be Intercepted by Juggernaut Drive.

However, the only reason she was able to even hit JD with it (normally JD would be way too fast and have way higher turn order priority) was that JD was really distracted by her struggle to find a way to kill Nepgear.

So you could argue that Solid Core was the MVP of that fight, but in a very undignified and inglorious way.
