Huh. There was literally nothing Silver Hero could do to harm Michael. Even beating him with her book, like she did at the end there, isn't enough to even scratch him.
Huh. There was literally nothing Silver Hero could do to harm Michael. Even beating him with her book, like she did at the end there, isn't enough to even scratch him.
She's 21 currently, and the fall of the Old Guard seems to have been around the time of the Drives. Whether that was before, during or after I can't tell you, but I'm going to assume 4 years ago, meaning she was 17.
The four of them collectively turn their attention to you in an almost eerie fashion. You talk a bit, but Rei's raised brow drags your request out. "Umm... My teammate, Samael, is a practitioner. His magic allows him to draw new spells from Magical Girls he comes into contact with through the use of his first spell. I was wondering if you guys would be willing to allow him to draw from you?" You trail off towards the end, and your smile fades into a grimace as Red Rose's look turns skeptical.
Red Rose: "He's a mook. No way he could get anything useful from this. Why are you even bothering to drag them along with you? They'll just get killed girly."
"I wouldn't mind letting him." Brilliant Key's voice is soft and unassuming, and her comment sends a jolt of relief through you.
Brilliant Key: "Sure! I know very well how even a weak power can grow into something unstoppable given enough time. I don't mind giving your friend a helping hand along his path to greatness."
"Thanks a lot! Hey, Sam!" The soldier in question pauses in stuffing his rigging with flash bangs at your shout.
...I'm picturing Sam, and the other human members of Team GEAR, loading up in so many grenades they look something like this:
"It was the spell I got from you." Sam was now wearing an extra bandolier of flash-bangs across his chest, though it looks a little funny when mixed with the armor.
...wow. I 100% called that! I didn't even notice it on my first read through!
"My spell, Libras, allows me to draw magic from a Magical Girl to form a brand new spell based on that Magical Girl. I figured it out with Nepgear's help not that long ago. I've been using it as much as I can ever since, despite the fact its not all that strong. I got Drive Boost from her the one time I cast it, and was able to hit Sixth Heaven with it twice. I'll be using the spell I got from her, Demon King, on everyone. It strengthens your attack power."
Red Rose: "Wait! You mean he's not a complete waste of time? What are the odds? Still doesn't make up for the five dead weights though."
Now he had the undivided attention of the five Magical Girls. Insight was staring intently at him, while Rei was looking thoughtful. "How many times can you use it on someone?" Brilliant Key's curiosity was evident with her tone.
Insight: "Oh shit! I looked at him! Crap! Oh... wow. That. That's bullshit!"
Rei: "That sounds familiar. It sounds a lot like Ichi's ability but for spells rather then weapons..."
Brilliant Key: "I'm curious!"
"Once for each Affinity the Girl in question possesses. I already got three from Nepgear here, as well as one from Carnage. We got a little carried away when we figured out my magic. I've used it once on Sega, once on Maiden of the West, and twice on Sixth as I said."
Hm. Could be Rei but I'm thinking it's probably Insight.
Your own suggestion to Rei about any Dark Magical Girls showing up and the possibility of focusing the deleterious effect of her presence onto only the brain-washing seals also went over pretty well. Even if it doesn't work out, it would be worth the try; something that Rei told you she was planning on passing on to Command.
Of course she is. Makes perfect sense to pass onto every Angel and Magical Girl with an Aura of Effect that when facing resurrected girls, such as Goddess Grey, all they have to do is switch their auras to effecting the Control Seal, and not the girl, and simply, hah, survive long enough for it to wipe out the Control Seal.
Actually doesn't this make War Angels the perfect counter to Goddess Grey? Theoretically just ten War Angels could take out her seal in a single turn. Given just how powerful she is trading ten, or probably even a hundred, War Angels to take her down, especially since odds are she could be recovered and return to the light, is a bargain.
"Huh? GAHK-" Red Rose's hand lances straight into your neck, the force momentarily robbing you of both your balance and ability to breathe as the veteran Girl physically lifts you up off the ground and slams you into the wall beside her. The motion is so fast and so sudden that no one has a chance to stop it, even though literally everyone draws their own weapons in the following instant
...Oh Insight. Why would you even bother? You should know there is literally nothing you could do to hurt her. Even a headshot wouldn't even scratch Sega.
Sega meanwhile could probably seriously hurt Red Rose since her damage should avoid triggering TSAG.
Much like with the humans of Team GEAR her damage falls into the range here it does nothing against Red Rose.
"I don't give a flying fuck, about how important you are to the war effort. I don't give a flying fuck, about how important you are to Goddess Gold. I especially don't give a fuck, how powerful you've gotten in the last few weeks since we met." Her voice is strangely level given the situation, but the emphasis on each time she swears makes you flinch as her finger swings just a little closer to your eye. "If you were lying to us, about being able to save the Girls under Goddess Red's mind control, then Goddess Gold's anger will be the least of your concerns. Because I will kill you myself. Understood?"
I get that this is personal to Red Rose and what not but this is very redundant and honestly bordering on the edge of crazy. Seriously did she sleep through this scene:
"Are you... one thousand percent positive that you can do this?" Her eyes snap open and bore into you. The sheer FORCE behind her presence suddenly slams down atop you like a tidal wave, almost sending you to your knees in an instant.
You swallow, and somehow manage to stand strong. "I am. If I am sure of nothing else in the world, I would be sure of this."
Rei's eyes don't waver. It's as if the whole world waited with bated breadth, unable of even conceiving of movement beneath her gaze. And after what feels like an eternity beneath her gaze...
"I trust you." Three words. Words that no one in the world thought Goddess Gold capable of saying, after what her sister had done. The weight of her gaze before is literally nothing to the weight of the monumental task those three words have now placed upon you. 'Bring her back.' It is not a demand. It is a desperate plea. Had anyone else spoken these words to you, they would have prostrated themselves upon the ground and caked themselves in the mud beneath your feet to beg your intervention.
Rei Mistubishi has never bowed within your sight. But the bend to her shoulders and spine can be nothing else.
? Because after this her little rant has zero impact.
Honestly all her crazy rant does is make me start wondering if she's going to lose it like White Soul and if we'll have to put her down.
"Brilliant Key, Solid Core, and Solid Drive, will be the ones to actually engage any Assault Knights we come across since they're the only ones here with Magic that's capable of actually putting the damn things down for good.
Swamped? Team Gear? She clearly hasn't head about what happened in Operation Starborn. Unsurprising given it was only a couple hours ago. Although she probably should have heard about how Nepgear soloed a hoard of zombies in the graveyard mission.
You wave your Angelic teammate off before she tries to ask you how you're doing. You'd rather not try explaining that you didn't feel the need to breathe for some reason.
Nepgear: "Oh it really didn't bother me. Turns out I don't need to breathe. Bonus of no longer being human I guess?"
"I understand." With two words you take the wind out of Team GEAR and Sega's sails. "If I had a chance to bring back those I cared for myself... then I'd feel the same. So lets go... your friends are waiting for you. Even if they don't know it yet."
Nepgear: "Luckily for me Sega came back without me having to do anything! Now if only I could convince Ni to resurrect Jessica and Richard, then my life would be great!"
You ignore the incredulous stares as you walk past Red Rose, taking point like you had suggested.
Sega: "What the hell sis? How are you just ignoring that?"
Nepgear: "I told you; I don't need to breathe anymore so it was really just somewhat uncomfortable rather then 'Holyshitiamabouttodie!' like it would be for a normal person."
You've rapidly gained a feeling of uselessness in the last few minutes.
Nepgear: "I wish I could do that. Then I wouldn't have to worry about splattering someone, like Truth, again or bringing down the building atop us."
It also means there's less of a chance of Collateral Damage bringing this whole place down atop us. Nep, I want you to clear the opening with your beam, then we'll all rush through.
...are you high Red Rose? You remember that Nepgear is the person with the highest chance of bringing the place down atop us and you want her to fire into the building? I guess being off her face on Meth or something would explain her crazy explosion earlier.
So once we're through rush any Magical Girl that's on the other side. Hopefully the blast from Solid Core's purifier beam will disorient them enough for us to close before any ranged options come into play.
Ah. I understand. Red Rose is just so damn arrogant she ignores the warnings of Goddess Gold. If it wasn't for Silver Hero's trap we'd have splattered her everywhere with that opening strike. She clearly doesn't understand what the phrase exponential growth means.
There is no pain, just surprise. The Purifier Beam's laser is swallowed whole by the roaring column of pure magical energy that comes blasting down the courtyard exit and is swept aside like it's nothing. Then it hits you and everything dissolved into a kaleidoscope of color. Everything turns green, pink, yellow, red, with a smidgen of blue and orange somewhere in the chaotic mess. And as the residual energy from the direct hit fades, you're revealed to be standing where you had been, not even having moved a millimeter, with a slightly bemused expression on your face as small streamers of smoke waft off your body.
Nothing happens for several seconds as both the Assault Team and the Magical Girl on the far end of the exit tunnel simply stare at you.
See Red Rose? This, this is exponential growth. She might have been the old Number 5 but Nepgear can facetank her without a scratch. Even that massive spell she threw at Michael wouldn't drop Nepgear's Health below her normal Health levels even if she just flat out facetanked it rather then Intercepting. With an Intercept:
Purifier Beam: 5,743 Base Damage, +300 Dice, Juggernaut Negated, +500 Divine Power = 6,543 Total Damage

It's barely worth noting.
James calmly walks up to you, and places an arm around your shoulders before gently guiding you back to the group. "Give us a moment." The still-mostly-stunned Magical Girl simply nods as James leads you back to the assault team.
Silver Hero: "What was that? She... she ignored my attack!? Is... is she one of the new Top Ten girls? I... I'm going to die, aren't I?"
"So... is stuff like that normal?" Aquila's astonished voice cuts through the surprised daze that clouds your mind. "Because I'm feeling a bit superfluous right now."
You are pretty superfluous. James is superhuman, Michael no-sells all magic, Samael is a magical genius, Gabriel is a monster, and Lucky is a walking doom canon. Poor Aquila has literally nothing worthwhile compared to Team Gear.
"Well... since Nepgear here can face-tank her way down your little choke point, you feel up to surrendering?" Michael calls down the tunnel to the girl on the other end.
Huh. It looks like Team GEAR, or at least Michael, has learned from Nepgear's example and is attempting Diplomacy. It worked against Goddess White so it is certainly worth a try.
"No... not really. I'm pretty sure I can get most of you before she kills me... but would you guys be willing to go away? I really don't want to die again."
And what exactly is stopping everyone else from just walking out of range while Nepgear rushes you? Hell I'm honestly not sure you could kill everyone before Nepgear eats you. It took Michael five seconds to sprint down the pathway. Even if he was freaking Usain Bolt that is only 62 meters. Nepgear can cover that distance, with Flight, in 0.73 seconds. So odds are she could impale Silver Hero before Silver Hero could get a single spell off.
"Tell you what. I'm resistant to Magic, so how about this: I come charging down this here exit at you. If I manage to make it through without you killing me, we get to pass and you come quietly." Alright, what the hell is he thinking?
Heh. "Resistant"? Is that what they are calling Magic Immunity these days?
Five seconds into the assault, he sprints clean through and bursts out the far end, throwing himself into a flying tackle with his arms spread wide. "GIVE BIG BRO RODRIGUEZ A HUUUUG~!" The scene holds for a split second... then Silver Hero screams as the terror hits her and Mike lands on her with a massive hug for the ages.
"I can't believe he did that..." Red Rose's comment is delivered as she rubs the bridge of her nose. It would have had more impact had you and the rest of the human members of Team GEAR not burst into laughter when Silver managed to free her arms enough to start beating Michael in the head with her tome, shouting at him to let her go.
...You just know there are going to be rumors about how Michael had sex with Silver Hero now right? Because this is the perfect fodder for such rumors.
Aside from that I actually laughed, much like Team GEAR, at this scene.
She continues that for about a minute before Gabriel's Light burns away the control seal and knocks her unconscious.
Huh. That was actually a surprisingly effective tactic.
Suppressing your reflexive fangasm at finding your Magical Girl idol, you shoot Red Rose a smug grin. "Told you so." She rolls her eyes. Though not before you can see the gratitude in them.
See that you crazy bitch? That is the awesome that is Team GEAR. Don't Fuck With Us!
"True... but whoever we send back won't actually have a chance to catch up before getting swamped by the guards. I'm pretty certain we're going to be running into more and/or larger groups further in." James turns to Red Rose, "What do you think? You have more experience at stuff like this then we do."
@crystalwatcher - Is there any reason Nepgear can't blow a hole in the canopy, or whatever, above the entrance, fly up (carrying Silver Hero) through it, race her over to the gates, drop her off, and race back?
She can easily cover a kilometer in just eleven seconds.
"To be honest, I didn't expect much from you all, no offense. ("None taken.") So I'm loath to split our party with what we're likely to run into deeper inside.
Red Rose: "I was an arrogant bitch who ignored what everyone was telling me. Now I know you're all a bunch of badasses and I don't want to get separated from you now."
As he should. Michael was MVP right there. Sure Gabriel could have done it but it wouldn't have been as badass. Plus Silver Hero wouldn't have agreed to such terms knowing that Angels are immune to spells.
Red Rose: "I was an arrogant bitch who ignored what everyone was telling me. Now I know you're all a bunch of badasses and I don't want to get separated from you now."

The construction and age of the Necropolis makes blowing holes in stuff a risky proposition.
Red Rose kind of underestimated Nepgear's growth and the "courtyard" they were coming up on is pretty big, so normal CD attacks won't cause too much damage to the surroundings when they go off uncontrolled.
I'm basing the Necropolis here off a mix between the one that comes up in Fable 3 (I think it's that one anyway), and another from an old playstation game whos name I can't even remember for the life of me.
Given the way her ability was described I'm fairly sure she can't. But It was the first thing that came to mind and was a somewhat amusing comparison so I threw it in.
Eh. Men Kill Heroes probably boosts Red Rose in some bullshit way. But there isn't any point on commenting on something we have no clue about.
That said I do need to take back my bit about Sudden Death because I forgot that Auto-Kill doesn't work on higher existences so Nepgear's actually safe there.
Huh. I actually checked that but misread it as a "single opponent's action", IE a low level variant of the "X Skill" tree, not "a single opponent's actions"
I do believe I commented on that already at the start of the post. That comment wasn't meant in that context. More a "we're awesome so don't doubt us!" thing.
You know thinking about it; Nepgear has the reflexes (thanks to HSC) to keep up with her speed of travel, and she has Boosted Flight so she can instantly accelerate/decelerate. So shouldn't she by able to fly back to the gates through the ruins at top speed? None of the mooks have the HSC needed to track her so she'd appear as a blur that would just dodge around them.
The only question is if Silver Hero, with her tiny Health and complete lack of any kind of defense handle that kind of acceleration.
Oh and before anyone asks that's not a problem with my op and over plan because even at just 1g acceleration, something everyone can take, Nepgear can travel a kilometer in just twenty seconds. Increase that to 3g acceleration, quite sustainable for human beings, and the time drops down to fifteen seconds.
Top Speed = 84.9376m/s
Distance = 1,000m
One Gee Acceleration:
84.9376 = 9.81 * t
t = 84.9376/9.81
t = 8.66 seconds
x = 0.5 * 9.81 * 8.66^2
x = 367.7m
Given that the same time and distance are required to decelerate that just leaves working out how far is traveled at maximum speed:
Brilliant Key: "Sure! I know very well how even a weak power can grow into something unstoppable given enough time. I don't mind giving your friend a helping hand along his path to greatness."
Did Crystal share how her's and Shining's growth affinities work?
I also kind of want Red Rose to come up and thank us for saving her friends, and then Nepgear tells her to fuck off.. politely I mean. But that probably won't happen because Not Human. When that uncanny valley hits you, it hits you. She just gets stabbed through the neck and gives no fucks. I honestly can't tell if that's trauma damage, No Longer Human, or some kind of antipathy aimed at herself.
I know, the update is amazing! But, er, why no comments on this bit of brokenness? Because that potentially means Multicasting Oblivion Awaits when she works with Rei.
[]What do you do with Silver Hero?
Hmm. We don't want to just leave her because of the spooky skeleton warriors. Hauling her back to the barricade puts the transporting party at risk of getting ambushed or just missing the rest of the action, and the barricade isn't a guaranteed safe zone either. Bringing her along weighs down her minder and exposes Silver Hero to AoE effects.
I think we should have Samael carry her and have the rest of Team GEAR (minus lucky and Gabriel) guard him as he stays back a corner or two. Last time we dragged along a few Magical Girls along it went okay for us. Samael is picked because his spells let him contribute even if his gunblade is strapped to his side.
My first thought was to have Gabriel tuck Silver Hero under an arm and head back, but Gabriel is important to our efforts here. Since Magical Girls have a link to the narrative of reality I assume that we can't have the main group pause to wait for a detached group to return. So sending any of our fliers to try and finish it quickly is a no-go, Nepgear deprives us of a trapfinder, Sega doesn't want to lose track of Nepgear, and Gabriel is the lynch-pin of our seal-breaking plan.
Depending on how successful we are this could end up with most of Team GEAR weighed down with knocked out Magical Girls (must... resist... lewdness). But this keeps them in our sight, and we brought them along to carry our shopping anyways.
[X] Plan Triple
-[X]What do you do with Silver Hero?
--[X] Send Lucky, Aquila, and Michael to take Silver back to the barricades. Michael will carry her, while Aquila and Lucky provide back up for him.
This gets our three least useful teammates out if the firing range, while still giving all four of the people involved a good chance of survival.
Next...
[X] Plan Upgrade
-[X] Upgrade INDESTRUCTIBLE CORE to level 20 (700 XP)
-[X] Save the rest of the XP.
This upgrades our health, resilience, and damage we can do with Core Purge.
