Why would I throw you at them...?
 
My personal thoughts is it's very much dependent on two factors.

Type of ship - Some ship/boat types are always a shipgirl, and some will never be an actual shipgirl...
Ship/Boat sizes upon initial class commissioning. Basically, if the ship was the right size for their class, at the time they were being originally built, and they are one of the ship types that come back as shipgirls, they are a shipgirl, no matter if they are only barely bigger or are smaller, than later ship/boats that are ship animals.
 
Just spitballing here but what if the cut off wasn't tonnage, but time and energy put into construction. I imagine It was a heck of a lot easier to construct the largest of PT boats than it was to construct a DD. And i think it kinda makes sense that ships who had more time and and energy put into their creation would result in a more complex spirit, eg: humans.
 
Pt boats at least on the US side of things were built out of marine plywood with Packard engines. They were designed with a short shelf life because they could be pumped out like mad.
 
While discussion is fine and all, I've already said I'm not going to use ship animals and explained why. That discussion is better suited to the ideas thread.
 
Going back to JFK for a moment, is there any likelyhood of seeing the 35th President of the United States show up at some point?
 
Have any of you watched Zipang? Despite the chinese-sounding name, this is an anime made by Japanese people.

Basically the ship JDS Mirai is going on a drill with other JMSDF ships. After some unusual weather phenomenon on the trip to Pearl Harbour, they find the Yamato, escorted by two destroyers in front of them!

They have time-travelled back to the 1940s! (WW2)

Despite the aged animation styles it is actually pretty good. Just though that an anime about time travelling ships might interest our time travelling Admirals.

Yeah, something like Zipang and The Final Countdown aren't happening. Unless a shipgirl somehow time-traveled, which is unlikely at best.

It is also very right wing and does nothing to discuss Japan's war crimes.
I do not see how it should relate to this fic.

Agreed. The story is cool, the political agenda behind it, not so much. I always make the warning when recomending Zipang that you better watch it with a critical mindset towards the implicit message. "Japan fought a defensive war", my ass.

The only way a Zipang scenario would work in this story would be if the shipgirl, in her girl body, appeared in an unexpected place. Like a Japanese ship in the North Atlantic. Possibly a DD or CL to reduce the impact overall.

To return to the regularly scheduled programming fanfic, I'm working on the next chapter now. Back to Germany we go.
