Can't wait for the next update, though i'm a bit confuse as to why Shuri didn't react well(Just a bit) when mentioned that we're competitors for the Ace position.

But i really dig Anna character, one that has been in the thick of it and understand well enough of the purpose of why she pilots a valkyrie. Not for being the best valkyrie but because it's for humanity, i could be wrong but Anna really resonate well with me. I like this kind of character the most.

You know, something I was kind of hoping to see was that kill marks/art (like on fighter planes) are a thing, and that we'd have a tiny pic of Sekhmet painted on our frame...

A very nice WTF reaction point for when we fully materialize our Valk...

Anna appears to already have the theory portion of combat down already so asking question about that won't be as useful as doing a Self study. Range combat can be practised while helping our fellow students become skilled enough to hit the broad side of a barn. For electives I wonder if they're any involving the abuse of Higgs, and Impeller fields, or discussing tactics for taking on a Type Zero?(when leaving it to the fleet isn't an option)

Probably because the battle in which Shuri became an Ace is the one in which her friends died, therefore she doesn't view herself deserving of that title.

Anna doesn't seem like the type to brag about it even if it didn't involve a considerable amount of bad memories, although I imagine Durga kept count in case she ever did ask. Also the WTF reaction will probably happen when Anna manages to avoid dying to a Type Zero who is going yolo through human territory, presuming that happens in the future.

Probably just competitive for the title, when it looks like we don't care(we don't since top of the school means nothing to the war)
I think it was the reverse. She hate the title so she doesn't like for people to mention it.

You hit Ace Pilot status when you manage to shoot down many high-ranked hostiles and survive.

No better time to do that when you're all alone in the battlefield, with all your allies and friends KIA'd.
You'd have the entire enemy fleet for yourself. :(

My personal interpretation is that Shuri's in a slump after possibly a mission gone wrong and wants to prove she's the best again. Probably by winning the tournament. Her odds were looking pretty good and than Anna shows up out of nowhere and proves she's at least as skilled as Shuri is.

But I could be wrong. We all need more info on her motivations.

Heh.

EDIT: Uh, made this post to say that I updated the OP with the cahracter sheet and will be counting votes in a second.

EDIT Again: Wait I lied, counting in like an hour and stuff then editing the vote count into this post.

....I came here for a humor quest.
Hey man, you guys could have voted the Tone to + 5 and then things such as the MC being named Banzai Yamato could have been possible.
Though, I am glad you guys didn't, I don't think I do humour well ("._.)
So if Anna hadn't stopped those hits, would the damage to Sandra been actually damaging? Not really sure what hit points everyone has.
Yeah, valks and Type 0s don't take damage if the degree of success is <= 2. They need to take damage again from a different source in the same roll to confirm the damage. If that roll is > 2, then the 2 is added, if it is < 2, then the damage is just whatever the first scratch damage is.

Also;

I updated the OP with a character sheet, and your HP is your maximum possible roll result.
...
*Shifts uncomfortably*
I tested the numbers and they work as I intended, but I'm not sure, I might still dump them.
"Shattered Aegis" represents Anna's tendency to provide defensive support for her allies, I suppose? But seeing as she'd "failed" already in the past, it's not perfect.
Though it'll be enough for now.
Pretty spot on, the Awkward shy girl would have a special modifier called Flawless Aegis, which is what you have but better, but she'd not have "Transcendent Offence"
Mmh... with the end of the day, we've either passed the first 10 minutes of episode one, so something will happen tomorrow so the protagonist can show his action-harem-plot-skills, or it's the end of the episode and it happened without us knowing about it.
Nah, narratively, it's still episode one, you pretty much hit the nail on the head with your next post on this. A bit further than 10mins though, since there was a long ass history recounting thing that got played back in the assembly, then the "I am not actually a girl" mental protest.

Holy shit, just read through Anna's backstory in the updated OP. The feels...
A girl barely into her teens shouldn't really be given that sort of stressful responsibility. (Unless she's a magical girl, but even then.)
Then there's the pervading sense of despair in seeing the people you've tried to protect distrust others, blame you for their misfortune, and hurt others out of fear. To top it all off, Anna herself was forced to... "pacify" them in the end.

I hope we somehow manage to make Anna's stay in Perth a bit more... "healing" for her badly broken psyche.

On a related note, her situation somewhat reminds me of Emiya Kiritsugu, except replace his "ideals of justice" with "protecting others".

Oh wow, yes to the backstory...

Although, now I'm wondering...
Does that mean that practically all of Anna's equipment on her Valk back when she took down Sekhmet are stuff she either took off enemies she's killed or Valk upgraded low power civilian gear?

You know considering she has at least 6 years of active combat experience I'm surprised the un forces didn't make her a combat instructor to pass down all of her knowledge to new valk pilots.

They're probably, rightly, worried that she's traumatize all the new pilots. Plus, just because you're good at something doesn't mean that you'll be good at teaching it; there's a reason teachers have to take special courses rather than just taking English literature in uni and then going off to teach it.

I don't think Anna has the knowledge base she'd need to be an instructor at the moment. She had no chance to get formal military training before coming to the Academy, so while she can definitely fight she's almost certainly ignorant of how you make somebody into a soldier. I can see her being fast-tracked through an instructor qualification course, assuming the Three Hundred don't snap her up first, but as she is now I doubt she's fit for the job.

There's also that bit about geniuses doing things instinctively (sometimes).
Their own senses tell them that doing "this sort of thing" is correct, but they can't quite explain "why". They just "do".

And as for Anna who never got formal combat training and fought all by her lonesome for more than five years, she might be hard-pressed to teach others how to fight like her.
That doesn't hamper her ability to work with others, oddly enough, seeing as she still tries to perform defensive support on allies (Shattered Aegis).

For example, and on a more comical note:
Anna's Tips on Being an Effective Valkyrie Pilot
  1. Don't get hit.
  2. Hit the enemy until it dies.
  3. Cover your own six and that of others. Just as important as the first two.
  4. In a pinch, Higgs bullshittery is your best friend.
