How will fauxchan react to this?
Well they wouldn't because the SV User's Choice Award won't exist there, but I'm sure in the (lucky) universes where Project Valkyrie Core is a real anime by the end of the first season's run it would become one of those "must watch" shows just like PMMM.

Alt-SB/SV would have a really large amount of PVC fans and the corresponding fanfiction and versus threads.

fauxchan is fauxchan. It can pretend that the SV User's Choice Awards are instead one of those Japanese polls.

One's a civ quest, one's a "x character reincarnated as y" quest, and the last one's a fucking Let's Read of Worm.

Quite honestly yours is the only truly original thing there, and the quality of the characterization and worldbuilding you've put into this has elevated this quest from what could have been a shallow "lolz harem shenanigans only you're the haremette" to a deep and heart-twisting journey of a girl who fought her hardest against all odds and still lost everything to regain this thing called "normalcy" and "humanity" while suffering from severe PTSD in the backdrop of a harem anime.

It's just really good writing. Also Bread-chan.

Wow, we're four votes away from overtaking Dragon of the North. Keep it up guys.
Magna Graecia is really original, and is quite frankly unlike any other civilization game/quest that I have ever seen. The complications and ability to propose solutions has resulted in some crazy stuff. But, this quest is more fun.

Highwind - Burn twice as bright, half as long?
*sets up the fire pit and tents.*
Right, can't be warm without a proper fire. Also, did anyone bring any clean sticks for the marshmallows? There's a bag around here somewhere...

"All right," You raise an an open hand and start going down the checklist. "I've got most of the camping stuff, Setsu's got the tents, my sister's coming with the food, Sandra and Shuri are bringing the drinks... did I forget anything?"

Five fingers down, five members of your flight, the five essentials of camping, all accounted for.

You are Rokusabe Koujirou, and you can't shake the feeling you are forgetting something very, very important. You eye the pile of ropes, matches, firewood and assorted camping paraphernalia, trying to divine what exactly was missing, but everything seemed to be accounted for.

On paper, this Survival Training slash Camping Trip was supposed to teach rookie Valkyries how to survive in the wilderness on the off chance they are left stranded and unable to be rescued for any amount of time.

In practice, Valkyries tended to have enough rations and equipment stored that survival was trivial, and they could normally fly whenever they want, so the whole thing was treated more like a team building exercise. However, to keep with the spirit of the lesson, the use of their Valkyries was discouraged and the cadets were expected to do as much as possible with their bare hands.

You turned to where Setsuna was struggling with the tents where you and your friends would spend the night. After seeing her fail to put one of them together for the fifth time in a row, you decide that she could use a distraction.

"Setsu." You call her name, but she doesn't seem to hear. "Hey, Setsu!" You try again.
She starts for a moment before turning around and giving you her Angry Glare. "What is it, you idiot?! Can't you see I'm busy here?"

You make a show of looking at the pile of parts that should be a tent behind her and do your best to transmit all the amusement you feel through your voice.
"Really?" You smirk. "You seemed to be almost finished with those tents..."

At that, she turns a lovely shade of red and throws a poorly aimed piece of plastic you make a show of dodging.
You chuckle and decide not to tease her more. For now.
"Sorry, sorry. I just wanted to ask you if you're sure you brought everything." You say. "I have this feeling I've forgotten something important, so..." You trail off.

Setsu looks confused for a moment. She opens her mouth to speak, but closes it again and assumes a pensive pose.
"I think so." She says. "I have the tents, the rope, a couple knives... everything I was supposed to bring, and I know you brought your share as well because I was with you when we were packing up." She shrugs. "I guess it's just your imagination. Let's wait for the others to get here, then you can check if there's anything missing."

You nod, and get back to unpacking and organizing all the tools. Soon enough, your passive sensors warn you that the rest of your flight is approaching.

Upon seeing the four blips that show up on your HUD, you suddenly, you remember what, or rather who you forgot.
Anna Sanchez, who was in charge of bringing the snacks for your little trip.
Anna, who confessed she had no idea what a camping trip was supposed to be like.

This was going to give you a migraine, wasn't it?

The four girls land on the clearing where you'll camp and quickly store their Valkyries. After a quick exchange of greetings, Sandra and Shuri each materialize a cooler filled with ice, water bottles and soda cans, while your sister summoned a basket filled with sandwiches, saying she was keeping the rest stored until it was time to eat.

Anna, on the other hand, unceremoniously dumped a small mountain of chocolates, cookies, marshmallows and other snacks on the ground.

After storing everything again, the six of you went about setting up camp. Sandra helped Setsuna with the tents while Shuri and Yukari gathered more firewood.

However, it seemed Anna didn't know what to do and just watched the others go about their tasks. Well, we couldn't have her just standing there awkwardly, could we?

"Hey, Anna." You called. "Can you help me make a bonfire?" Your offer seemed to make her perk up. That encouraged you to continue. "I already got some firewood while waiting for you girls to arrive. We just need to put the wood in place and start the fire."

She gave a nod and you helped her move the firewood to the middle of the clearing. After the two of you were done, you turned back to the pile of tools and started looking for some matches.

"Okay, now all we need to do is ignite the firewood." You explained, without looking away from your task. "Give me a moment to find some matches and..." The unmistakeable sound of high energy plasma being generated made you pause.
Slowly, you turned around and were greeted by the sight of Cadet Anna Sanchez smiling happily, with her Valkyrie partially manifested and her plasma emmiters deployed in what must have been their lowest setting.

"Anna..." She turned around, still with a smile on her face.
"What is it, Koujirou?"

Her smile was so honest, so bright you almost didn't stop her. Almost.
"Anna, we don't use high energy plasma to start bonfires. That's... that's just plain overkill."

She tilted her head to the side in confusion, wordlessly asking you to explain further.
You sighed. God damn it, Anna.
"Just... just put the plasma away, Anna. We won't be using it."

The way her smile vanished and her expression went from eager to disappointed was almost heart wrenching.

This was going to be a long trip...

I started reading Magna Graecia because of the award and I think it's really cool.

I also read poaw commands because of the nomination thread for the award and it is also really cool.

SV's a pretty neat place.

Re: User's choice awards.

Lol guys, we had a good binary order going, with Dragon of North having twice the votes of Magna Grecia, Magna Grecia having twice my votes, and this having twice Lets Read Worm votes.

Now it's all mixed up.

...

Are there really that many people who like this quest the most out of everything in the User's Choice category?

Thanks guys, I really do appreciate it.

Avalanche, have you looked at the bottom of this thread the day after an update? There are sometimes over a hundred users viewing at once. Your work is pretty popular.

Oh my.
I think Anna might be terrible at camping, though for less entertaining reasons. Mostly because she would have no idea why people do campy things because she has never camped, and if people in her town did stuff like that to try and hide it might bring back bad memories. I am also not sure the pillow fort would fit well in a tent, and it is mandatory for Anna sleepytimes. She deserves it.

Quick update on the User's Choice poll. Dragon of the North is now beating BAHHSCQ by 4 votes. If you haven't already voted, it would be highly appreciated.

So, I was wondering, in the hypothetical-anime Project Valkyrie Core, how would Impeller Fields be animated? I mean, in-universe they're normally invisible and you can't tell, for example, that Anna has her forcefield up 24-7, but anime-watchers would need visual cues for when someone's pulling an Impeller trick or to track Yukari's Impeller whips. I'd guess that the studio would use the standard anime blue flares of ki/chakra/spirit effect or the standard anime outlined-in-glowing-blue psychic energy effect, except it would make it way too obvious that something's up with Anna if she's glowing blue literally all the time. And, yeah, they could save the special effects for when the valk units are extended and not show the Impeller field in "civilian" mode, except... Anna throws around casual telekinesis effects in base form. Like the time she casually grabbed Setsuna and Koujirou mid-jump-kick (since the time she casually used it to mix bread dough was probably "off screen" or in an after-credits-omake-scene of ambiguous canonicity).

I'm not quite certain whether it'd be better if the audience starts twigging that "Anna Sanchez gets visual effects normally reserved for the mecha when untransformed" or if, in the tsundere-kick scene, the Impeller grab doesn't get the glowing blue effect and there's no indication at all that Anna's doing something until the other two suddenly freeze in mid-air for no apparent reason.

On that note, I wonder if the animators would make a note of Anna just never using hand gestures (or maybe rarely looking directly at things, like Saki from Girls Und Panzer, since her sensors are so comprehensive that she wouldn't even notice if her eyes stopped working). Like, Yukari physically swings her impeller whip like it's an actual whip, or the animators have Shuri hold out an arm when making a teleport-portal, but when Anna wants to use an Impeller trick, things just happen.

Or during the "why going back stop robot anna" scene - Koujirou is hiding in his cardboard box right next to Setsuna (which the audience can see into via x-ray vision), pulls out his totally-not-an-iPhone-really (or maybe starts tapping at a holographic keyboard), and texts "plz dont tell", which appears on the bottom of the screen where subtitles normally go. Then the anime goes split-screen, showing Anna leaving morning class, and she just tilts her head in that anime-moe-confusion fashion. And then Setsuna sends her "Anna, have you seen Koujirou?" text, and Anna's "Yes, I saw him in the infirmary this morning" response just appears at the bottom of the screen, and she continues the conversation while walking to the lunch hall with no outward indication that she's texting Koujirou and Setsuna, and her "Are you trying to attack Koujirou again?"/"Is Setsuna trying to attack you?" messages are displayed on-screen at the exact same time, and there's no Anna-POV so when she hacks the robot-dolly it just starts moving with no explanation of how she knew where they were.

And the faux-chan ">literally a robot" speculation just explodes.

I'd think the Impeller field would be invisible most of the time, only revealing as a flash of light when it blocks some weapon.

I myself tend to visualize the impeller field as a sort of heat distortion/ripple in the air that becomes more visibly pronounced as it's forced to do more intense work.

If the budget is there you could show the Impeller fields as a slight spacial warping bending light not unlike a heat distortion or curved glass.

For the Robot scene, I don't think they'd show Anna, it would be too obvious and throw more fuel than they'd want on the speculation fire. Instead, they'd just show Koujiro and Setsuna's perspective, and their tablets. Koujirou and Se-Tsun send their messages, and Anna replies near instantly/simultaneously. Some people would pick up on the fact that she's doing that, and then they'd wonder how she was simul-texting. Few people would think she was doing it remotely, and those who did would be countered with arguments siting how no one else does this. The 3-on-1 fight? Yukari actually uses her whip like a whip, and Setsuna aimed her guns manually. And people are always shown actively directing their Impeller Fields when using them.

Pretty soon the whole debate and argument will likely get further away from figuring out that Anna doesn't need interfaces, while still drumming up interest and speculation in her character. Another nice little touch would be that Anna is never actually seen using a device, but that's a minor thing you're not going to notice unless you actively look for it.

The weird thing wouldn't be the messages. I completely agree with you that they'd be shown from Koujiro and Setsuna's point of view exclusively. The weird thing would be Anna's ability to control the robo-trolley, depending on how the presentation linked the trolley's sudden activation with Koujirou's message & Anna's reply (and it's definitely Anna's work when she goes "I can't let you do that"). Anna hacking the travellator to escape them earlier would also probably have made it on-screen. that was when we delivered the "classified", after all. So sharp-eyed viewers will know that Anna has an unusual command of technology, either hacking or high clearance or something weird.

Plus, you know, we hacked the missiles in the sim. So yeah, I think the super-hacker secret is out, although probably still argued about.

I read through the main story posts and have enjoyed the story so far. I have great sympathy for Anna because she is somewhat like me with more exaggerated behavior and super powers so I like her character.

i challenge you to a duel, it is quite clearly a city state quest, and I will have you know that I researched historical information for exactly 18.2 hours for it

Magna Gracia is (to me) really hard to get into as I didn't see it when it started. It's like this huge first page of STATUS STUFF and all. I like the CK Warhammer empire quests more than that one.

i-it gets better, the info is just to make things clear pls read it

Battle Action Harem is cool though, reading through now, like that Anna doesn't take typical harem tropes at all, straight up slapped down the girl-hits-sheepish-boy-constantly from the bat
